Detailed Reviews
We are fortunate to have a villa on this lovely golf resort therefore have been visiting the hotel for many years. Sadly we have noticed a deterioration in almost every area. We went for breakfast the other week which was disgusting. Carton orange juice, cold coffee, soggy toast, cheap hard baked beans, choice of 2 old fruits, no butter....need I go on?!
Many of the umbrellas round the pool are ripped and torn and the water fountain has no water!
The club house has has worn carpets and very slow staff apart from Alvaro who is always friendly and helpful.
We had friends coming to stay in the hotel and I went to reception to ask if they could check in at midday especially as the hotel was no where near full and was very rudely shooed away and told it was not possible. They could have at least smiled and tried but it’s obvious they just don’t care. It was the same attitude when I asked about the restaurants, or lack of them should I say! Luckily there is a very well equipped Spar on site and a good selection of eateries within walking distance just outside the resort on The Boulevard.
There is no hotel bar and the pool bar is closed which I don’t understand as people and children are running around in and out of the pool and jacuzzi all the time?? We also noticed that quite a few guests from The Residences were using the pool which I thought was forbidden but nobody asked them to leave.
I can’t comment on the rooms but our friends said they were nice. We have friends coming later this week so will ask to have a look at theirs and take notes!
The golf course is in dire need of some TLC with many ares totally overrun with weeds and unpruned trees.
This used to be a lovely 5* when under the management of Intercontinental and we would confidently recommend it to everyone but now feel less inclined to do so and it’s no more than a 4 and soon to be a 3 if things and Caleia don’t get their act together.
I did email the hotel manager and Caleia head office on many occasions with my concerns but never got a reply so feel only right to air my views on here!

Yet again I find myself writing another poor review of this hotel. I wasn’t personally staying there as lucky enough to have a property on the resort but had flown 28 family and friends out for my birthday who were, therefore I spent a lot of time there. I can honestly say that at times I was embarrassed by the lack of facilities, lack of restaurants, attitude of the staff, condition of the furniture ( sun beds are cheep, broken and uncomfortable) and I don’t think the restaurant chairs have ever been cleaned! The breakfast which I was pounced on before I had hardly stepped foot through the door was a joke. (Of course I was going to pay) Horrible! Cheep and nasty, a motorway service station would be far nicer. Fresh orange juice?? I don’t think so!!
How you can call yourself a 5 star with so many inadequate facilities is appalling. What happened to the glass of bubbles at check in?
I didn’t once see the hotel manager about checking on things and guests, seems the staff are making it up as they go along.
The restaurants are only 50% open with no pool or hotel bar at all. The spa running on 5%.
I was told that there are no slippers in the room, not one English TV channel and milk was never replaced.
Was fantastic when it was Intercontinental, so come on Caleia, UP YOUR GAME, PLEASE!!!

Booked through love holidays was very worried when I read reviews as we thought we were staying in the hotel itself as the advert on love holidays is very misleading but I realised through reviews we had booked a self catering apartment 2 bedroom on the hotel complex. We did also have breakfast booked with the hotel also. Emailed hotel before arrival to confirm this info to be advised we are staying in an apartment 5 min drive from main hotel would not have use of gym/spa or hotel pool during our stay so was very concerned but too late to do anything about this and not really hotel fault more of false or misleading advert by love holidays. Arrived about 9pm we had hired a car so went to reception lovely lady checked us in gave us a map and keys etc and we went to the apartment. Very basic but clean and had everything we needed big fridge freezer, washing machine lovely patio on bottom floor. Next day walked to breakfast found walking to hotel to be a 5 min walk at most breakfast was plentiful and good selection. We had a pool that must be allocated for certain apartments in the area and it was fine. Some pool sun lounges were broken and needed umbrellas ideally but it was great for us a pool right next to our apartment. Everyone around the pool very pleasant and just getting on with their holidays. We are in the Italian in the hotel risotto was delicious. The Buffett on the Wednesday wasn’t great but it was 15 euro for kids and 30 for adults so not terrible. We are in the Japanese too which was amazing!! We booked at the reception and I also emailed whilst there to make booking one day. We went to the strip of restaurants and bars along the front of hotel just outside we got a taxi from reception just 5 min drive but kids found it too far to walk in the heat. Had 2 lovely meals there. We went to beaches about 20 min drive from hotel beautiful clear warm sea, sand bit the best but it was enjoyable. The hotel allowed us on last day use of the main pool at the hotel as I had previously said about the misleading info which was a nice gesture. It made for a nice change of environment on last day we used the pool bar which done fab cocktails shame music was a bit rubbish. Tried to book a cabana bed also but was advised I could not as not staying in hotel (bit petty) but we used it anyway as no one was bothered! The reception arranged a wasp nest to be cleared the morning after reporting which I thought was brilliant. All in all a great cheapish stay if your expecting 5 star hotel. Thanks for a lovely holiday

Hi there Adema, We'd like to say thanks for taking some time to share your feedback. We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the risotto at our Italian restaurant and had an amazing time at the Japanese one – our chefs will be over the moon! It's also great to know that the proximity of the pool to your apartment added to your convenience. Regarding the confusion about the location and facilities available to your booking, we're glad our team could clarify things and that you still had a wonderful stay. We're always aiming to ensure our guests have all the correct information before their arrival. While we're sorry to hear about the sun lounges and the cabana bed situation, it's fantastic to hear our reception team was responsive to the wasp nest – faster than a superhero in a summer blockbuster! We'll definitely look into improving poolside amenities and ensure a better communication for future guests. We hope you'll pop by and stay with us another time. Take care, Ona Mar Menor Golf & Spa

Hotel's Favourite
This is my second time at Caleia Mar Menor Golf & Spa Resort. The first was in July last year (2022) and this time in March 2023. And I have to say that if you want to enjoy the hotel for yourself March is a great time!
My stay at the hotel both times has been great! It is a hotel that has everything so you won't need to leave it for anything (except for going to the beach). You have an outdoor pool, indoor pool, spa, 7 restaurants, golf course and much more!
We stayed in one of their impressive suites, super spacious, terrace overlooking the pool, whirlpool tub, huge and beautiful shower and the best thing is the super comfortable king size bed that I didn't want to leave!
Thank you very much for everything! I hope to come back soon!

Arriving at the reception we were not informed spa has to be additionally paid and a reservation for the spa is needed. the girl at the spa reception stared laughing at us making it look like its the most obvious thing to pay for the apart when you go to a 5 stars hotel. she was super rude and ruined our afternoon. then the ceiling in out room started leaked heavily. i have videos ( which i cannot upload at the system only allows pics) and pictures of how the water is falling in the floor and that really does not seem safety. the man of the reception was not very impressed and just give a call to someone to fix it and said it will be clean when we go back. however the floor was not completely dry so I slipped and fell. i told the receptionist that it looks dangerous and i was right, but they just didnt care of our safety. i still have bruises . ialso have pictures or the wet floor. then when trying to charge my phone the socket was not working and when I took off my charger the hole socket came out of the wall, all cables outside. I also have pictures of that which js absolutely unacceptable. the door if the toilet was not able to close completely, I also have video of it. so very very disappointed for a 5 star hotel, better choose any other in the area.

Dear Guest, First of all, please accept our sincerest apologies for all the inconvenience. Our ultimate aim is to ensure that our guests leave the hotel happy and satisfied at all times, therefore we are very disappointed that our service was below your expectations. In relation to the attention received at the spa, it was possibly a misunderstanding as our colleague is characterized by always having a smile but in no case with the intention of offending. Regarding the incidents in the room, I understand that our housekeeping staff went to your room to fix the leak, but we have no record of the other incidents either your fall. We encourage all our guests to report any problems or complaints as soon as they occur, no matter how minor, so that they can be dealt with immediately at reception. In order to take swift action, thereby obtaining a completely different impression of our establishment. We deeply regret not having met your expectations and we would be happy to give us the chance to meet you in one of our Senator Hotels & Resorts establishments. Yours faithfully, Pablo Albendea GM Caleia Mar Menor Golf & Spa Resort

Just returned from a 4 day break with friends. Not sure where to start! This hotel is in no way a 5*. It is very tired, dull and needs serious maintenance. Our 3 adjoining rooms were dull and in need of refurbishing. The shower in my bathroom was leaking water onto the floor and into the hallway, running into the wardrobe! The cubicle door would not close and the seal on the lower part of the hinge side was missing, this was obvs a long standing fault as the wardrobe door had become swollen. Outside, the pool had green mold/algae on the floor in a couple of corners, pavers were broken, uneven and in many places sharp to walk on. The jacuzzi was not working, and one handrail going into the pool was very wobbly and unsafe. Tbh there was so much wrong that it would take an hour or more to list. The sun beds are very worn and the poolside pavers need power washing. There are couples double sun beds which are missing curtains, have dirty grey mattresses and are being charged at 35€ a day! No room service, no automatic poolside bar service, no poolside towel service. The outside curtains had been removed from the Nomad Restaurant and the outside floor in this area also needs a thorough wash with food spills leaving vile staining. Our door key continually had to be reset and we were told it was because we had kept them next to a mobile phone! I did not have a mobile phone! Don’t ask for poached eggs at breakfast, the response will be a dirty look!! We booked this holiday back in 2019 and due to Covid and having to reschedule finally got there in early September. Having paid high season prices we were never told that rescheduling to early September we would not have the summer facilities, 3 restaurants were closed, the pool bar not open, the spa open for only 2 days with only 2 appointments available as the therapist was on her own! This hotel has huge potential it would have been fantastic in its heyday, but alas new owners with either no money or no concern for guest comfort.

I last reviewed this hotel in August 2019 and unbelievably it hasn’t improved
It used to be an Intercontinental and was truly 5 Star, it’s now 3 star plus at best
Rooms were ok, no English TV channels though and were a bit tired in general
Poolside is disasterous, loads of wobbly tiles which are dangerous, sun beds are the cheapest of the cheap and most are battered and broken, same with umbrellas
In the 5 days we were there (3 rooms) I never once saw the pool be washed down or sun beds. Obviously the pool bar wasn’t open and there was zero waiter service
Anyone could wander in and plonk themselves down on the sunbeds totally unchecked, it used to be 15 euro when it was an IC
The clubhouse bar is mobbed at all times with mostly groups of male golfers who get more and more boisterous as the beer content increases, twice we tried to get coffees but gave up trying
The resort is now more of a golf holiday resort for golfing parties which is to be expected given the hotel owns the residences apartment
Clover Bar. The staff work hard and several have been there many years and are always pleasant and hardworking - no issues here
Italian restaurant- avoid, just not nice
Reception staff. We had 3 rooms , so not a cheap trip. My wife asked on the morning of departure for an extension to 4pm and was advised no. When queried the female receptionist insisted the hotel was full and there was nothing she could do, and practically shooed my wife away
Her demeanour changed when I arrived and asked for the manager and she disappeared for 5 minutes before returning saying he was on a call (but he walked by is 5 minutes later)
So I asked her to clarify if she told my wife the hotel was full?
She didn’t reply so I pulled out the Booking.com app and showed her a dozen rooms available and she was mortified! I asked why she had lied to my wife but pretended not to hear me before quickly extending our check out
Worst hotel reception service ever
We had been going here for 15 years and have spent many many thousands over the years but we will not be back until the reviews on here indicate a 5 star service has returned but I don’t think that will be anytime soon
In comparison the Hotel Costa Narejos is not a 5 star probably 3 star plus but knocks spots of Caleia in terms of staff, service and Amenities- book there instead

My review is mainly for the hotel, check in very quick and courteous, room overlooking the pool and 18th hole exceptional, breakfast incredible and numerous choices, only downside was car parking we parked in the underground car park but we’re not advised when checking in or first use of faculty that it was 15 euros per night until last 3 nights, queried on check out and were told that was what it was and had to be paid… Beware! That said I would thorough recommend hotel.
If you play golf here don’t expect to get round in under 4.5 hours, people in front don’t allow you through. Course good, great layout and tough in places.

We returned to this hotel for the third time under new ownership. The pool is the jewel in the crown of this hotel, although there are a lot of cracked tiles which should be repaired a.s.a.p. as it’s dangerous, especially for young children. There’s a lovely pool bar which means you don’t have to move far, and the cocktails are very good. The Italian restaurant menu needs to be reviewed and changes made,it’s mostly pizza and pasta, but definitely not great,I’m sorry to say. There’s a club house with decent foot, but it closes at 5p.m.The rooms are spotless, and crisp white linen and towels which are changed every day,if necessary. We weren’t expecting that, great service. The staff here are exemplary. We couldn’t fault one of them. The one thing that surprised us was the fact that people can just come through the back gate and use the pool.In the past we’ve seen people challenged, but this time no one seemed to bother.I don’t think non guests should be making use of the pool beds when guests are paying good money!! We will definitely be back though. Hopefully hotel will have had a bit more t.l.c.

Excellent location in a impressive environment golf & hotel. great pool, suites and meeting room.
We enjoy also a golf clinic with an excellent teacher that you can contact through the golf shop.
There are not too much variety in the club restaurant menu but the quality/price is good enough.
