We have come here repeatedly in the past few years, both to spend the day and to spend the night. We love the peacefulness. There are multiple great spots with hammocks and chairs to hang out close to the water or further up in the foliage areas. If you stay the night, relaxing on the pier at sunset and showering...

If you're looking for a hidden gem, this is the place to go. Even in high season there's always a spot to kick back. Whether it's taking a nap in one of the hammocks, enjoying the lake breeze, kayaking, or bird watching. I love the open air showers. The food is some of the best in Nicaragua. The service is...

San Simian is a great hotel on Laguna de Apoyo. Daniel is a great host and took care of all transport needs and a trip to Masaya. Laguna de Apoyo is an amazing spot. It is a beautiful, clean lake in the crater of an extinct volcano. It is amazing that Nicaragua has been so committed to preserving this natural...

Perfect place to relax, birdwatch without leaving your hammock or lounge, swim, have a lovely meal, cocktail at the lounge or on the dock and take the best outside shower! The owner went beyond the call of duty to help us with our special requests. We look forward to our return next February.

We love this place! And the only reason I don't rate it 5 stars is for travelers un accustomed to Nicaraguan travel the 5 stars might be misleading. This is not the US Canyon Ranch! What it is: A tranquil natural resort complete with a covered outdoor restaurant and 2 bars steps from the very warm tranquil waters on the...

We stayed in Sandia and Mango and both were great. Sandia has the best view of the water and is super breezy because of the water being right there. Mango is more spacious and has a little fenced in courtyard for sitting which is nice. The food is great and so is the staff. They can arrange excursions with little...

A perfect way to finish our 3 months in Nicaragua. The cabins are comfortable, and the food is good, if a little pricey (admittedly we are used to eating in local comedors). The owner's idea to anchor a floating platform in the lake was inspired. We saw Howler and Capuchin monkeys and lots of birds including, at last, a Guardabarranco...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
San Simian is a charming Eco Lodge in the Laguna de Apoyo Dry Forest Preserve. Nestled along the water's edge, this secluded resort has private unique lodging tucked into the slope of the crater and steps from the swimming dock, hammocks and bar where guests pass the time. Guests can stay in a unique palm-roofed cottage with open air shower, private garden or terrace, eat at our full service restaurant and relax at our outdoor bar. As San Simian is equipped with a Catamaran, several Kayaks, and other water toys, activity revolves at the lake front and in the clear warm water itself, however, bird and monkey watching in the surrounding forest are also popular, and we are also located at the entrance to a great hike path that leads up the hill to the Pueblas Blancas artisan villages and the stunning Mirador at Catarina. Please Call Ahead if you would like us to arrange a massage, pedicure, Spanish lesson, guided hike, Granada or Masaya tour. ... more   less
