Fortunately for us, this place had a room for us. BUT, here are the cons: The place is carpeted, and must have allowed smoking at one time, it smells of smoke and must. Dated, dated, dated. I was told that the owners purchased the place in the 60's. It looks it. We sat down in front of the fire and...

The staff here are very friendly. The hotel is not open for lunch but I arrived early as I am walking the coast and not only was my room ready for me but I was provided with a sandwich lunch and a beer, even though they do not do lunch. Rooms were large with nice views over Loch Feochan and...

My husband and I booked this hotel over the phone without access to reviews or research and on the strength of it being included in a Heritage Scotland leaflet. Probably a good thing I hadn't read the reviews or I might not have booked it! We were wanting to treat ourselves and negotiated a three night "deal" for a one...

Wonderful reception and hospitality from the owner/hostess. Much useful information. Drying room on request. Book ahead. Quite removed from Oban. Very soft twin bed is akin to sleeping in a hammock; there is an urgent need to update beds. Must slam bathroom door for it to close. Hosts ask for key while you are out, but are not insistent on...

Older hotel with a very welcoming staff. This hotel is located on the road across from a beautiful and tranquil lake. Double room had small bed but comfortable. Enjoyed relaxing in the common areas next to a lovely fireplace. Breakfast was good -- all the basics.

The room was nice but there were several aspects we were not happy with as a family travelling with a young child - 1) on a phone call before our visit, we did not feel welcome to bring a young child in our room (we understood there was not enough space for another bed but the staff did not seem...

We were actually supposed to stay somewhere different, but unfortunately we found out the day before our reservations were cancelled and they set us up here. We were happy to have had a place to stay, but disappointed to be turned away which such little/basically NO notice. SO, the Knipoch is actually quite beautiful. The breakfast room being my favorite....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestling beside Loch Feochan in Argyll, Scotland, lays Knipoch Hotel (pronounced neepoch -och as in loch). This four star country house hotel is privately owned and run by the Craig family. We opened Knipoch as a hotel in 1981 when the original building was refurbished with the reception, kitchen and bedroom wing being added.Prior to this it was our family home with a history. In 1592, Campbell, Thane of Cawdor was assassinated here at the "house of Knipoch in Lorne".In England as well as Scotland, hotels vary and individually owned hotels each have a personality. At 22 rooms (including suites), Knipoch Hotel is small enough to care for our guests personally, yet large enough to be a hotel. ... more   less
