It's the first time I'm taking the time to write an hotel review although I am a very well travelled individual. DO NOT GO THERE. The worst service at all. The staff was extremely RUDE, they are there to make money and not provide any pleasant service. The nights we ate there, the food was really not good and the service was the worst. No salt and pepper on the table, bread coming after the appetizer has been served, no water, not asking for if we wanted beverages. No music and understaffed. The chef was unpleasant and verbally agressive, I must say that the view was beautiful, but it's not worth staying there for it.

We were a little apprehensive about our stay at Cap au Leste, as we had read some poor reviews. However we're most pleasantly surprised. The rustic cabins were delightful, with a lovely big bed and superb bathroom with walk in shower. The staff were most helpful, service excellant and food good with plenty of local produce including local craft beers and gins. The walking trails were excellant, and we found to be well sign posted with either paint or tags every so many trees. Thanks to all you staff. Merci Beaucoup. John & Anita

The view at this lodge is wonderful. It’s right on the water and is really beautiful. However, you have to go down a long dirt road that isn’t in very good condition to get there. The food wasn’t very good. Dinner was mediocre, and I’ve had much better breakfast for free at much cheaper hotels. They did prepare a special dessert for my son who had his birthday there, which was nice. We ate our other meals at restaurants in the nearby town, and they were amazing! The town is lovely, with great views and shops. Don’t trust the trail maps or the info at the front desk for hiking trails! We are very experienced hikers, and I can honestly say I’ve never used such a poor map or hiked on sick poorly maintained trails, as the ones to the lighthouse. The beginning of the trail was closed, but they showed us a different way to go on the map. However, much of that trail was completely overgrown and some was unmarked. When we got further towards the lighthouse, there were multiple signs saying the trail and access to the lighthouse was closed, even though they told us to go there. The steep trail to the lighthouse looked like maybe 1/4 of the loop, but it was really about 1/2 of it. It was a frustrating morning. Saint Rose Du Nord is worth a visit, but I’d suggest staying in one of the inns in town, instead of this one.

We are just back from two nights at the Pourvoirie, with mixed feelings. There's no doubt that the setting and the view are beautiful, and the hike we did on the grounds, at least the part in the woods, was spectacular. We also enjoyed our room, which was a cute individual cabin. Service was courteous. I wish I had been asked, when I paid, if I had enjoyed my stay, which would have provided an opportunity for feedback. The food was the disappointing experience. As some traveler noted below, you are a bit captive when the hotel is so remote, and that makes an average meal all the more frustrating. Dinner is a set menu with no choice of main, and was only so-so. And breakfast was motel-level, at best--oily croissant, industrial cheese and ham, a mini muffin, a yoghurt. We weren't offered eggs and toasts and had to ask. I would be more forgiving if prices (for room and food) didn't suggest a high-end type of experience. So overall we tried to make the most of our stay, and it was a good one. But looking at the bill, I don't really feel I got my money worth.

"Star" ratings for hotels have specific criteria when coming from rating services like #AAA (diamonds), #Fodor or #Michelin. For me, I use a comfort and return rating. Five for me is that the hotel was clean, comfortable, nicer than expected and I'd come back on my next trip. La Pourvoirie is built on the side of the gorge carved into the Saguenay Fjord. My late afternoon arrival was on a very cold Quebecoise winter night, with a breeze and a temperature dropping below -40C (which is also -40F). Check-in was welcoming, the staff friendly, able to speak English well enough to get me settled into my room. The nearby detached chalet had 12 or 13 rooms. There are also private cabins. Although it was Valentine's Day and a special menu du chef prix fixé, it was exceptional. I have not been a fan of wild game meats, so when told vennison was the main course, I was expecting to be disappointed. No, not at all. The meat was cubed into a stew rich with gravy, flavor and tenderness. The room assigned was for a family. Two bunk beds hugged one wall and comfortable double bed was for mom and dad. The linens and room were warm. This place is rustic, so plan for rustic space. However, the bathroom was sparkling, warm (when I remembered to turn the heat up), and adequate. This is not a negative, a Fairmont-sized bathroom is not to be expected in a rustic hotel in the real north woods. I'll be back.

You will be quite welcome. Our place has been built over 20 years from a pristine forest, we developed Roads, constructions, water... all constructions have been made with local logs, local builders, local know how...hence a perfect adaptation to local environment conditions... We do suggest to you to come back on différent seasons to experience horse back riding, dog-randos, dog karts, canoeing, plenty of special locations to visit like the light house, etc... See you soon, warm regards

The view is awesome but the appartement was just average. It was supposed to be a luxury room, the balcony was tiny, 2 chairs and 1 small table, no fridge or mini bar in the room... It is difficult to access the hotel because of the 7 km gravels road, so we were not very motivated to go to the city for the dinner. The restaurant tries to be good, without success. The food was just cooked without any special taste... average again but the price is not ! I really dislike to have the tips already included in the bill ... In a nut shell, the view is amazing but we went back frustrated... you have the power to improve drastically the experience! Thanks

Drive down the rough gravel road for about 15 minutes and you have arrived. Beautiful views over the fjord, several walking trails and nearby stable. Rooms are rustic but nice enough-but the quality of the sheets and pillows were seriously lacking for the price point. Terrible lighting in the bathroom and the window screen had a gap which let in bugs. Small game room in main lodge. Bring games or something to do because once the sun goes down with no tv or WiFi in the room it can be very quiet. Service was quite average with a young staff. Surrounded by beautiful forests with lush green trees and some wildflowers. Unfortunately the midges were out and biting! We enjoyed a drive over to Saint Rose du Nord where you can eat at the delightful Cafe Rose, take a boat ride on the fjord and be sure to stop at the Boulangerie for an incredible selection of breads, pastries, sandwiches and pizza.

Too bad we couldn’t stay longer as this place is awesome, deep in the wilderness overlooking the majestic fjord of Saguenay The room 24 we had was perfect to welcome my wife, my son and myself - had I had known this hotel before would have asked room 25 for example as it overlooks the fjord. As for the restaurant just one word, eat there! The chef based on his inspiration and local products available that day prepares a set menu...never disappointed on the contrary always pleasantly surprised! To resume, we will surely come back and stay longer to enjoy what the hotel offers locally

Cap au Leste is in a stunning location overlooking the Saguenay fjord. Most of the accommodation is in small individual log cabins which are basic but have everything you need and have a wonderful view. WiFi is good in the main building but not available in the cabins, nor is television, so you have no choice but to relax and enjoy the scenery! Unfortunately we found the food here very poor. Dinner is a fairly expensive fixed price menu although alternatives are available on request. Unbelievably the menu was almost identical two nights running. Much of the food was served lukewarm and the beef and venison were greatly overcooked and reminiscent of school dinners. Breakfast was also poor, with overcooked scrambled eggs and only mass produced highly sweetened cereals. The staff were nice and helpful but all seemed quite young and there didn't really seem to be anybody in authority. None of this would have mattered too much but for the fact that Cap au Leste is quite isolated being 7km down an unmade road so it's quite a long drive to find anywhere else to eat. One other comment is that the indoor swimming pool is tiny, though the sauna is very good. In summary I would recommend Cap au Leste as a place to stay but not to eat.
