My wife and I, along with our small dog, stayed here over a weekend in July. Everything was wonderful. We were met by the owner who was very cordial. The rest of the staff were all also very friendly. The location and views of the Rhein and surrounding country were amazing. We were provided a wonderful breakfast each morning and enjoyed our evening meals on the outside terrace enjoying the wonderful views. The room was quite large; however, the staircase getting to the room was quite narrow. There are many hiking trails in the surrounding forest which to explore and enjoy breathtaking views. Overall, it was a wonderful and unique experience.

Everything was great- service, food, & room. Stayed in the suite & it was very comfortable & most enjoyed time. Great Hiking trails up & down the hill. Out of the way so make sure you have time to take the river cruise, it is beautiful & worth it. Must spend at least 2 full days!!

I stayed at this hotel this week for one night. The room looks quite ok but the bed is very short so I spent all night hitting the bottom part of it. There was no hot water in the room at all, it was rather a very small amount of non cold water so taking a shower was a terrible experience. The restaurant had only three red wines in the list ñ, even choosing one of the “best” the quality of the wine was terrible and the price very high.

We stayed at this lovely little hotel last night and had a wonderful time! We booked the family suite, which gave us plenty of room. Our daughter loved the curtained bed! The rooms looked our over the Rhine and surrounding countryside, which was lovely. We enjoyed a generous prix fixed dinner and then explored the grounds. As castle bluffs it was fascinating touring and trying to figure out the original layout of the castle as some parts are in ruins. We all slept very well (the noise from the train didn't disturb us at all). We had a very filling breakfast. Before and during our visit the people were lovely to deal with; we especially enjoyed our interaction with the owner. We had been warned to bring cash to settle the bill. Knowing that our room was up a very narrow winding staircase, we only packed backpacks to take in for the night, so we had no problem getting to the room. We noticed that there were other, smaller rooms that were much easier to get to. We highly recommend a stay at this unique hotel.

This Berg is one of a pair named the Hostile Brothers located high above the Rhine. You really do stay in a castle, watched over by the Suits - of armour. Konrad and his little brother at breakfast time, for example. If arriving by train at Kamp-Bornhoefen station on the Right Bank of the Rhine, the staff offer a taxi transfer from the station to the castle. I recommend their offer be accepted - the hill is steep. The Rhein Steig footpath runs right by the front entrance; Cruises on the Rhine can be taken from the pier at Kamp-Bornhoefen, towns on the Left Bank such as Boppard can be explored via the ferry (passengers and vehicles) a couple of kilometres downstream. As may be expected in an old, old building, not everything works perfectly. Your warm shower might suddenly turn hot - or go cold. You might have some flies accompanying you for meals, or moths trying to get into your room if you have the windows open and lights on at night. But these characteristics are more than compensated by the friendliness of the staff (some do speak English), and the romantic ambience - both outside and inside. And if you come here from outside of Germany, keep an eye on the flagpoles - you might see the flag of your country flying in the breeze
