Detailed Reviews
The looks of the Mastinell hotel are spectacular. We had a great stay but we should wanted that in our room some more attention would have been given to comfort and practicality rather then design only. We had booked the suite, and again the looks are great. But the furniture is not comfortable. The bed is rock hard, the pillows bouncing fiber (no feathers) the circular sofa unpractical. The blinds don't keep the light completely out. No bedside tables but alcoves next to the bed but just to far to be able to reach your phone when still lying. The most comfortable piece of furniture in the room for me was the bath tub. Spacious and the right shape. Also service wise there is some room for improvement. We are not sure if it was because of Covid restrictions or the fact that we don't speak spanish. We don;t mind share a matress but would love to have 2 duvets. During the first night we only got a extra blanket without sheets or cover. Luckily, the 2nd night with another receptionist the problem was solved. I think a 5 star boutique hotel should do turndown service but not sure if this would be done normally. The first night we did get a turndown sweet at the table, the 2nd night we hadn't. We only got 1 shower towel each, also solved the 2nd day when we realized towels are not replenished in the evening. The room orientation at check in was very short (limited english or minimizing contacts due to covid regulations?) and we only heard later that we could have done an english speaking cellar tour and tasting. The breakfast was excellent. The dinners a bit disappointing. Potentially nice dishes but not good executed (meat not cooked enough, extreme hot ravioli in a watery and cold sauce) but we were there on monday and tuesday night and we know that in general the headchef has leave then.So we can defenitely recommend the place, the architectural design is worth the detour. But one or 2 nights is enough. and with little effort they can make it a truly 5 star experience.

Dear Ankar2017, Thank you very much and rest assured that we will take note of your suggestions. We regret the confusion of the blanket on the 1st day and that it could be solved the next day. Towels are changed every day in the morning, but if clients request it at Reception, of course we do a replacement of both pool and bathroom towels. Our philosophy is to try to disturb as little as possible, regrets that were not to your liking. Due to the current Covid protocol, to check-in we try to stay as little as possible inside the room and explain everything possible. Also, we regret that you did not like it. Regarding the food, the incident has already been reported to the Chef, and it will not happen again. Sorry for the inconvenience. Rest assured, that on your next visit, we will live up to your expectations. We hope to see you again soon at Cava & Hotel Mastinell.

I spent 3 nights at this hotel on a recent trip to Spain. I selected it for it's location close to many of the nearby wineries as well as to Vilafranca del Penedes.
First the hotel is gorgeous and a work of art. My room was large and comfortable with a splendid view of the vineyards. As others have noted though the design has led to some compromise like the shade closing over the table and seating area rendering them inaccessible. The bed was comfortable and the room was very quiet which was nice.
The lobby area felt more like an exhibition for the winery than anything else and certainly could use more warmth and perhaps an actual bar. It felt like a lot of unused space.
I had dinner at the restaurant on one of the gastronomic nights and it was OK but nothing special. In my opinion it's trying too hard to be fancy with presentation and neglecting the food. On the other nights it's more of an a la carte menu but strangely enough there is a completely different menu for room service that you can't order from the restaurant even though it's prepared by the same kitchen. Again weird decisions that don't quite make sense or cater to the guest.
Overall i had a pleasant stay but there's definitely quirks to be ironed out and improvements to be made before this can get to it's full potential.

We recently had a delightful stay at the Cava & Hotel Mastinell. We arrived at the hotel following our overseas flight, and we were thrilled that we could access a room upon arrival to freshen up - often when I travel to Europe, the hotel does not allow access until 3 PM, even if rooms are available. The Hotel Mastinell was a great place to start our visit because the serene location was great to relax and get over the jet lag, while providing great sightseeing. We hiked around the property (miles of trails nearby) and visited several nearby vineyards. We opted to not rent a car, and the hotel was helpful arranging taxis and ground transport. The staff were great and friendly. We added the cava tour and tasting and Alex was an entertaining guide - a great addition to a visit. We dined twice at En Rima; once ala carte and once for the tasting menu. The restaurant was great at accommodating for allergies, and of course, the food was fantastic. We were drawn to the hotel for its unique architecture, and would recommend it to others.

My parents have stayed in Cava hotel many times before and loved it.
This time my parents were traveling home from Spain and needed to book a night in a hotel after 12 hour drive. As you know the covid-19 is not making things easy. They had called and booked a night and also made sure that it was okay to bring a dog. The person that made their booking ensures them that dogs are allowed..
When my parents arrived at 23.00 (11pm) exhausted after a long drive and still many days of driving ahead they were turned down on the door, because of their dog. How is that possible when they had made just on the same day sure that dogs were allowed?
As most hotels are closed, they were forced to just keep on driving and finally to spend my fathers birthday night sleeping in their car..
I'm still shocked how can this happen and hotel Cava wasn't able to arrange anything for them in the middle of the night, even though this was totally their mistake?
Won't recommend to anyone because there are many beautiful hotels with actually great customer service in the area.

Dear Natalia, We find it in very bad taste to confirm that we said we accept dogs. It does not make sense or logic that on the phone it is said that we allow pets, and then your parents arrive at the hotel and we say no. In addition, it is published on our website that we do not allow pets. In your review, you do not mention, we kindly gave them a take away dinner and we managed the search for another hotel that allowed pets. Please reconsider this opinion in these delicate moments that the sector is facing. We do not understand that you have to harm our honor in this way. Cava & Hotel Mastinell

This is a very unique property in the Penedes wine region, just outside of the town of Vilafranca de Penedes.. It is a working winery and you can do a tour of the winery and a tasting for a moderate charge. The tour and tasting is worth it! The hotel itself is shaped like a stack of Cava bottles and each of the 'bottles' is a room looking out over the vineyards. We enjoyed our room, which was clean and well equipped. There is a 'split-level' or step in the middle of the room which some may find inconvenient, but we got used to it. Service at the hotel was exceptional, from our initial check in with Josep through every interaction thereafter. The staff did everything they could to make our stay unique and enjoyable. The restaurant onsite is also exceptional. We enjoyed the tasting menu with wine pairings so much, we booked it again for the next night, and the chef changed up the menu items for us! The restaurant staff was also fantastic, with a big shout-out to Rudy who was our wonderful breakfast server. We would heartily recommend this hotel for a luxurious and unique stay, especially for those who are wine-inclined.

Oh my goodness. It's hard to find the words to begin when everything about this stay was perfection. First, let's start with the staff: their welcoming nature and attentiveness were unmatched and very much appreciated. The food was outstanding! We opted for the package that included two dinners and I was not expecting an 8 course tasting menu - we were blown away!! So much so that we didn't think we could manage the next evening since we might succumb to our gluttony. The presentation and thoughtfulness that went into each bite was really apparent. We are big fans of architecture and the hotel itself is a real gem - small and uniquely crafted. The room was immaculate and the blackout blinds were a nice touch. We traveled with our 8 month old baby and the staff were so accommodating. We especially loved the pool which has beautiful views of the town. We enjoy a bit of privacy and we had the pool to ourselves each time. We also traveled without a car and appreciated the ability to walk to town (through the vineyards!) in 15 minutes. The town of Villafranca del Penedes is charming and has a lovely Saturday Market and a nice wine museum. Our stay could not have been better. This hotel is not cheap but it is, in my humble opinion, worth every penny and was a wonderful highlight of our trip. If you are even the slightest fan of cava you should book immediately and even if you are not, you will be after your stay! One last thing on that note, for a luxury hotel, the wines are so reasonably priced that we couldn't believe it. Thanks so much for the phenomenal stay!!

Unique hotel with attentive staff. All of the staff work very hard to make your stay whatever you want it to be. The Cava produced at the winery is very good and the restaurant is excellent. Recommend having a car because it is off the beaten path. Very easy driving in the area, We rented a car at the Barcelona airport and returned it on our way into the city in order to avoid driving in Barcelona. Driving is not stressful in this area. The hotel is happy to recommend other local wineries, all of which were different and fun experiences. We also drove to Priorat for a day which is about an hours drive. Great red wines in that are, near the hotel we enjoyed many different Cavas and white wines.
Rooms are beautiful with luxurious bathrooms and bedrooms. Large soaking tub with separate shower and double vanities. The architecture is very attractive and even more beautiful at night. Very peaceful sleep. We arrived very early from a transatlantic flight and they were happy to allow us to check in during the morning with no extra fee as the room was available.

WOW! WOW! WOW! From the staff, to the rooms and the Cava, I truly enjoyed my birthday experience at this hotel. I needed a comfortable space to relax, enjoy plenty Cava and celebrate this next year in peace and with a touch of elegance. This property was ideal for my necessity and the staff truly went above and beyond to make sure that I enjoyed myself. Throughout the property is clean from reception to the rooms and beyond. The beds are big and comfy for spreading out after too many Cavas. The rooms also comes equipped with a Nepresso machine as well as a fully-stocked mini bar w/ a separate wine fridge. I stayed in "Macabeo" as all the rooms are named after various grape varietals on this Cava vineyard. The included breakfast did not disappoint. In fact, it made each morning quite special as I usually do not partake in breakfast on normal days to accommodate for substantial meals during the day. This is a coursed breakfast with every option that you can imagine. It is served at each table and you are given time to appreciate the quality of each dish provided; including fresh squeezed orange juice, Iberian ham and homemade nut bread that stole the show. I drove to Vilafranca del Penedes from Barcelona which is an estimated 30minutes drive. The hotel/vineyard is located on the outskirts of the city center which was my preference due to its proximity to other vineyards. Unfortunately, I didn't not get to explore everything that I wanted because I was busy relaxing and enjoying the Mastinell experience. Consequently, I extended my stay an additional night and plan on visiting again soon for some R&R during the winter months! Thank you, Hotel Mastinell.

My wife and I stayed at Mastinell for three nights at the end of August. Everything about the stay was perfect but the restaurant deserves a special mention. The quality of the food and wine (especially the cava) was first class. Service throughout the hotel was friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for the staff on reception. Our tour of the winery was informative and dosed with humour by Nico, our guide who clearly took a lot of pride in the estate’s excellent wines.
The location is also a great spot for visiting other wineries in the area (Parès Baltá and Torres are just up the road) and Sitges with all its beauty and character is a short car ride away. - but stay at Mastinell.

This hotel booked as a stopover. We're gonna do that around here more often. From the moment you enter you breathe luxury while the staff is very accessible and does not get stiff. And how proud they are of their cava and wine. The rooms are beautiful. We ate the 8 course menu with fine wines and the dishes were all top notch. See the menu. And the 8 courses were not too callous because they were quite light dishes with top products. The cooking of the monkfish was the best ever.
