We went to Tokyo as our college graduation gift for our son. We opted to stay at Kimi Ryokan instead of a hotel in order to experience the traditional Japanese Inn. After 2 weeks, I will give the place a 5-Star rating for its location, cleanliness, and superior quality of service. No need to bring your laptop computer because there...

This is a great base for Tokyo travels. Towel included, nice seating area on the roof, secure, wifi throughout and plenty of toilets and showers so never waiting. In both 2 and 3 person room with friends. Great space and ideal if you're out in the day and need comfort and peace for your sleeps. Recommended

Lovely old ryokan, right near Ikebukuro station which is on the main JR line to Shinjuku, Harajuku, Shibya etc. Very clean, small rooms. The staff were really nice but gave us some bad advice on a few occasions (Booked us a tea ceremony in Uji, but when we arrived it was for the wrong day, so that wasted a lot...

We had a great stay at Kimi - the room was small (it's Tokyo!), but had a lot of storage space, so our suitcases weren't in the way. The staff was incredibly helpful - they gave us restaurant recommendations and helped us find a doctor when my son hurt his neck. Overall a great place to stay - and so...

Booked here after reading reviews on tripadvisor and Lonely Planet. This was our first time at a Ryokan and it was superior to the hotels that cost double the price in Shinjuku. There is plenty of space (for Tokyo) in the rooms, the staff were very welcoming and friendly, they spoke English and Japanese and the common areas, (kitchen and...

Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighbourhood Profile
Ikebukuro
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.
