My wife and I stayed at this hotel for a week during our honeymoon before heading off to Osaka. The hotel is conveniently located near the JR Ueno Station which made exploring the various parts of Tokyo a breeze. Upon arrival, we took the train which ran from Narita to Ueno directly. The staff were very friendly and were able...

Mitsui Garden Hotel in Ueno is ideally located close to the Ueno Station and Tokyo Metro. Access to the Narita Sky Express train is also just a five minute walk away. Lots of shopping and eating outlets - fantastic restaurants with delicious food. An easy walk to see the Tokyo Sky Tower; Ueno Zoo where you will see the pandas;...

Station, car rental, convenience stores, cafe, shopping center, restaurants, and shops are all within walking distance. The lobby was a bit cramped. Check-in and check-out was fast and the staffs were friendly. The room was small, a bit pricey but clean and quiet. I would recommend this hotel.

This hotel was recommended to me and when I stayed in October I was taken with the efficiency and politeness of my check in despite my not being able to speak any Japanese. The rooms are quiet, comfortable and spotless and the hotel is located within a very short walk of Ueno station which gives good access to all of Tokyo...

The hotel is very conveniently located. Close to a metro station that allows you to quickly reach any sight of Tokyo. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable enough. Oh hey they have these Japanese toilet too with many buttons. Where can I buy one :-) The only downside was that we felt that the staff was not comfortable with...

We stayed here for 2-nights post-cruise, having picked for convenience for transportation from Yokohama (direct via Keihin-Tohoku line) & to Narita airport (direct via Keisei Skyliner). (1) Cannot beat the location - 5 min walk to Ueno Train station via walkaway bridge, adjacent to Metro (to get to Asakusa area), walking distance to Ameyoko shopping/dining area, Bus (at Ueno station)...

I was only here for 3 nights while I was working outside the city. It is a nice enough hotel although the rooms are typically (for Japan) very small. Although small, they are very well appointed. The Italian restaurant is acceptable and also serves breakfast, though I never managed to be there for this. It is very well located for...

It was our first trip to Tokyo. Easy to travel via the Skyliner from Narita airport to Ueno station. It is convenient to reach the hotel via the underground pass during raining weather or walk across the street for 10 mins from the Skyliner stn or 5 mins from the Ueno JR station. The hotel is facing the stations directly...

I chose the Mitsui Garden Hotel Ueno while in Tokyo for business, and was very happy with it. The transport access is quite convenient. The Skyliner from Narita goes right to Ueno, and then (once you figure out the pedestrian tunnels), you can walk underground almost to the hotel's door. It is easy to get around the city on the...

This was my first time in Tokyo and I only had three days to see the sights. A local tour guide helped me decide to stay in Ueno (not a trendy hot spot area but an area rich in cultural hot spots and museums) and this location allowed me to take the Skyliner bullet train with my luggage right from...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
