We stayed here in April this year for the first time, and have booked to stay here again on our next visit to Tokyo. When traveling around Japan we stay most of our time in chain "business" hotels and splurge for a more expensive Inn out in the countryside where you want the bit of luxury. This is a good one at an excellent price. Yes, the rooms are quite small, Tokyo real-estate is expensive. But they are more than adequate (though if you are a big 6'5" guy it might be cramped. We're both pretty small people). The breakfast is excellent - Japanese style, lots of delicious (and healthy) choices. We also have had lunch there and it is a good buffet for a very reasonable price. (Again - Japanese style food) The staff are great, the place is clean, and it has a public ofuro which many Tokyo hotels don't have. Oh - the location is extremely convenient for the rest of Tokyo, for day trips to Nikko or going north on shinkansen, and for Narita.

We are a couple that stayed with APA Hotel's Non-Smoking Double Room for 4 nights from 30 April to 3 May.

Indeed, like what other reviews say, the room is small and we couldn't open 2 luggages at the same time. Moreover, we did a lot of shopping and we had about 10 bags in total so our items were all over the place. The room wouldn't be too small for you if you have small luggages or have no shopping bags. Also, there was about 2 to 3 wall plugs so it is advised to bring your own plug extensions if you have several things to charge.

For the bathroom wise, the bathtub is for one person only but the amenities were sufficient. 1 bottle of soap, conditioner and shampoo each. It's more than enough for the two of us for 4 days.

Unfortunately for us, there was no view as we were facing another building (so it was a wall). But I guess this is what we get when we get a deal off from Expedia since it is about 40% lesser than its original room rate. It was a total of 40,800yen (SGD$510) for 4 nights for a double room.

The service wasn't too bad but when you leave your bags/ luggages with them, it is placed outside in the lobby where everyone else can see so remember to lock your luggages well~! They have a small room for storage purposes but it's usually filled up. Upon request, you can keep your important/ fragile items with them. In our case, we kept a guitar in their staff/ front-desk room.

Location was not too bad, it is a 5-7 minute walk to the Asakusa Line. Probably about 10-15 minutes to the Ginza Line. Family Mart is also easily accessible from APA Hotel. It is located opposite the Asakusa Line (also 5-7 minute walk).

The top floor public bath was the best thing throughout my whole stay. I went there almost every night because it really helps your muscles relax after a long day out. After you enter, you would see the indoor bath and pass the indoor bath, out the door, would be the outdoor bath. During my trip, it was about 8 to 12 degrees (spring season) at night. When you soak yourself in the warm water outdoors, the feeling is great. Moreover, the view is also very beautiful at night. You can see the Tokyo Sky Tree and the night lights.

Overall, I would recommend this to solo travellers, business travellers or leisure travellers who have very little/ no shopping to do.

I have stayed in 2 different APA's in Japan and I am definitely a fan of this chain. The rooms are nice, usually someone on the staff speaks at least some English and the beds are comfortable. I would definitely stay here again. The Asakusa Apa is convenient to tourist attractions and train stations - the only downfall is that the Asakusa trains in this area are a bit confusing, but the hotel itself is great!

I just checked out today and here is my review:

If you don't mind a place that's a little further from the main tourist districts, this hotel is for you. It's a 10min walk up to Asakusa (Senso-ji Temple) and the hotel is served by Metro and JR lines.

I had a single room on the 8th floor and I am impressed by the space, the cleanliness and the bed- which was extremely comfortable. The water in the bathroom is indicated as drinkable which means I don't have to buy bottled water. They have an onsen which was busy throughout the time I was there.

I want to give special thanks to Mr Nagano from the front desk who helpfully directed me to Asakusa with a map and also his lady colleague who kindly assisted me to book a taxi at 1:30am in the morning.

A lovely stay, highly recommended.

Thank you for staying at APA HOTEL Asakusa Kuramae. We are very glad to hear that you had relaxed and felt comfortable. APA Hotel use in-house developed mattresses to ensure that guests can relax on the bed for a long time. The onsen overlooking the Sky Tree and the Sumidagawa River have been well received by everyone. And also I am very happy that you satisfied our staff. I will share your message to Nagano. If you have any chance to visit Tokyo, please come again. We are looking forward to seeing you again. Thank you very much. Masuda / Receptionist

A very surprising find that is pack with a lot of amenities. It’s near the train stations and shopping and food are within walking distance. Google maps provides a good direction if you need help.

A chain business short stay hotel that is full of facilities. You receive a welcome can of beer when checking-in. There’s a TV with lots of features including free mirroring capabilities for iOS and Android phone, lots of information and even check out timing indicated on the screen. Free to watch movies and tv programs.

The hotel provides laundry machines for guests, as well as vending machines and mircrowave for the general public. There is also a public bath facility separated by genders and you can see if it is crowded on the TV screen in the room.

The rooms are small and cosy, so beware if you are lugging around a big luggage. Breakfast is from 7-10am, but expect a queue if you are going for the earlier slots (probably due to the many business people who stays there).

The hotel allows you to “park” your luggage on check out day (11am) at no extra cost so you can continue your shopping if you have a later flight.

The room was clean, otherwise nothing good I can think of.
The central air conditioning made the room so hot and stuffy but I cannot stand the noise of heavy traffic when I opened the window. I did not have much sleep during the stay.
Free wi-fi was soooo slow.
Hotel staff are cold and you'll be surprised the manager of a national hotel chain do not speak english.

So, you can change degree but cannot switch from cold to hot. We are afraid to tell you that it is difficult to improve this situation immediately. However, we will use your opinion to make our hotel better. Also, we sincerely apologize for Hotel staff’s behavior. We will improve it promptly and be doing our best to make our customer comfortable. Thank your for sharing your opinion. Waga, receptionist

We were incredibly disappointed in this hotel considering it’s reputable brand and the other reviews it had.
Firstly, despite booking a ‘small double room’ we expected a normal sized double bed and to be able to move in our room, however, the bed was more like a single and with my boyfriend being 6ft+ it was impossible for us both to sleep comfortably. We also struggled to fit our 2 suitcases in the room never mind be able to move and unpack.
The shower was more like a large bath which made the entire bathroom and everything in it completely wet through each time it was used.
The breakfast again was in my opinion completely unsatisfactory for a hotel of this size and standard. There was barely any western style breakfast options other than a few stale bread rolls and eggs. There was no fresh fruit, cereals or pastry selection which the pictures in the hotel seemed to suggest and each day I struggled to find anything that I could enjoy. If we had known this is what the breakfast consisted of we would never have paid to have this included!
Finally, the staff at this hotel were simply unhelpful. We asked a few small requests of them, such as to use the spa/onsen on the day we checked out before our flight and instead of trying to reason with us they simply said ‘no’, we were in shock at their rudeness as we never expected this response from staff at a hotel chain with a reputation like this. This meant we had to check out at 11am and walk round Tokyo in 30 degree heat without any facilities to freshen up before our flight later that day.
Overall left very disappointed and will not staying at an APA hotel again.

The room is the smallest hotel room I've been in thus far in Japan. I slept very uncomfortably. The room may say its fit for two, but would be best for only one. The pillows are extremely flat and the room itself is just displeasing. I asked for a high floor and was told a high floor would cost $100 for a view. already enraged by the size of the room I went back to my room and checked out two days earlier. The staff does not accommodate and I will not return.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience about APA HOTEL Asakusa Kuramae and sincerely apologize for the issues during your stay. Regarding pillows, we would gladly give customers an extra thicker pillow if they would like. Also, We usually arrange the room on high floor based on availability and won't charge for that. However, regarding the room with a sky tree view, the price will be different from other rooms. So, if the room you booked were cheaper than that, you need to pay the difference. We are vey sorry we were not a good fit for you and do thank you for your feedback. Waga

Not bad value for your money, but this is more of a budget business hotel, and the staff attitude was on that level. I noticed that all the foreigners were on the same floor... The rooms are too small to tie your turban or swing a cat in, but I was doing neither, so it worked. Kept wondering why the bed was so squishy!

I loved the (public) bath on the top floor with the view of the Tokyo Sky Tree. It could get crowded so best to go late when it's empty. People who have large tattoos beware; the Japanese don't look favorably towards tattoos in general, and the bath here was no exception. There was a sign on the door saying that people with large tattoos are prohibited. Mine is small so it wasn't a problem, but I played it safe by covering it up.

The sights of Asakusa are a stone's throw away, as is public transport (Asakusa + Oedo line). The sumo stadium in Ryogoku is walking distance.

We stayed at this hotel the first night we arrived in Tokyo and the last two nights prior to returning home to Seattle. The cost was relatively inexpensive, 9000 yen/night (double), including taxes and a westen & Japanese breakfast buffet. It was about a 10 minute walk from the Toei Asakusa line and about a 15 minute walk from the Tokyo Metro Ginza line. There is a Kinsei limited express train from Narita to the Askusa station. It costs 1240 yen and takes about an hour to reach Asakusa. The trains run about every 40 minutes. The direct train stops running around 5:30 pm so you will have to transfer to the Toei Asakusa line at Aoto. The day after we arrived, we took the Ginza line to the JR Ueno station to connect with a shinkansen train to Hiroshima. On our trip home, we used this same subway line to visit the Imperial gardens (160 yen) and the Ginza area.

The front desk also speaks english which was very helpful. Ask for a map of the Asakusa area when you check in. The rooms are clean and the furnishings are in good condition. Our room had LAN access (cable provided), a flat screen mounted on the wall, and a compact refridgerator. It was very cozy, but if you're just looking for a place to sleep, who cares. There is a microwave, and coin op washer & dryer (1) on the 12th floor and a restaurant on the premises that serves lunch and dinner after the buffet breakfast ends at 10:00am.

The Senso-ji temple is about a 15 minute walk north of the hotel (back towards the Tokyo Metro and Toei subway line). Just prior to the temple is an outdoor arcade selling all kinds of goods and food. About a 10 minute walk south of the hotel, on the main street that runs in front of the hotel, you'll find several inexpensive places to eat, including a McDonalds (no seating), along with a 7-11 and other convenience stores.
