A great base for us to stay and explore this lovely area and other parts of Tokyo. Brilliantly located near three train stations including the Yamanote line as well as buses. Also perfect for restaurants, galleries, shrines, temples, Yanaka ginza Yanaka cemetery and the winding narrow streets. Ryokan itself spotless, our room had everything we could want and the staff... Annex Katsutaro is in the wonderful heart of Yanaka, an old part of Tokyo close to many important links but away from the hustle and bustle of places like Shibuya. Clean, simple and tidy, this is a place I always recommend to others visiting Japan. With amenities like laundry, free wifi and various subways nearby, it makes staying in Tokyo... More

Annex Katsutaro is a gorgeous hotel to visit. The neighbourhood is just fantastic, there are plenty of interesting shops, you have easy access to 2 stations in walking distance and there are lots of lovely places to eat. We thoroughly enjoyed just walking around the neighbourhood in the evenings. The front desk staff speak English (great if your Japanese is... More

I recently stayed here for 2 nights on my own. I was very nervous about being inTokyo a (Mature) female on my own, but the location of this hotel was perfect, typical Japanese local area - shops & restaurants. We loved the location of this ryokan, quaint local area with small shops and restaurants, really quiet at night yet a short walk to the train and minutes from ueno. Getting around Tokyo was easier and quicker than I had imagined by train and there is even a small bus that stops right outside to take you to ueno or... More

The hotel is located in a very nice neighborhood. The place is immaculate and obviously with all detailed amenities a ryokan can provide. The service, the attitude, the smile, the efforts, the practicality, the way you will be treated are of absolute quality. It is a very nice experience in every sense of the meaning.

We spent 3 nights there. A familial and traditional Ryokan, in wich we chose a Japaneses style room (futon). Room with Bathroo. Kind service in the nice Nippori district, near JR Nippori station and cats street. Highly suitable for a stay in Japan.

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
