We spent 3 nights there. A familial and traditional Ryokan, in wich we chose a Japaneses style room (futon). Room with Bathroo. Kind service in the nice Nippori district, near JR Nippori station and cats street. Highly suitable for a stay in Japan.

Annex Katsutaro is in a more suburban area of Tokyo than other places I've stayed. It's very easy to get to with great public transport links and the area is fairly quiet although with plenty of shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. The owners are very welcoming and friendly and the room was clean, spacious and bright. The breakfast...

The Annex Katsutaro is easy to reach by subway but out of the main stream of Tokyo tourist life. The neighborhood is sprinkled with traditional craft shops and stores that cater to both foreign and Japanese visitors. Breakfast is extra at the Annex but a fast Japanese breakfast place is just two blocks away and lets you dive into the...

I'm not sure how first time visitors would think, but I've been to Tokyo several times and always stayed very near to the Ueno Station. This time I decided to stay a bit off - it's a few stops away from Ueno via the Yamanote line plus another ten minutes walk. But the location was really quaint. It's near to...

Annex Katsutaro is a welcomed quiet retreat in Tokyo. Located in a traditional neighborhood, with great coffee, bakeries, and restaurants close by. Just a short walk to the JR Nippori line and subway. Annex has friendly and accommodation staff members and was a great place to kick off my Japan trip. I'd definitely stay here again.

Stayed here, me and my mom, in a room and had a great time! The rooms are pretty basic but nice and clean. Comfortable beds and nice bathroom! We spent six relaxing nights at Annex Katsutaro in June, 2016. The tatami mats were beautiful, the futons were comfortable, and the place was astonishingly quiet for being in the largest city in the world. We loved walking along the narrow streets in the Yanaka neighborhood: great shopping, great eating. There was a tiny mom-and-pop sushi place just down the...

Annex Katsuro Ryokan was located in a beautiful part of Tokyo, with lovely little cafes and shops round the corner. The JR train station Nippori and subway station Sendagi were both within a few minutes' walk of the ryokan, and you can catch the JR to Haneda Airport no problem. It had a family-run feel to the guesthouse, and the...

Stayed for 3 nights and really enjoyed the place. With the Japanese style rooms it felt like we were really in Asia, but the western amenities (bathroom, fridge, etc) were welcome additions so it didn't feel too foreign. The location isn't exactly ideal, but it is good. There's very little to actually do/see near the hotel, but transport public transport...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
