I would have rated it higher had it not been located right at a red-light area. So be warned if you are not comfortable walking through such a 'notorious' street (especially at night) to get to the hotel. Or use the hotel's north entrance that faces the Ueno Park instead. Definitely not a place to stay if you are travelling...

One advantage of the Parkside Hotel are its location (near Ueno station, across from the lovely Ueno Park, walking distance to the National Museum, and--if you like to walk--also to Yanaka which has pre-war buildings, small shops, and which i would have liked to have more time to explore). The hotel is also very clean. I had a pretty basic...

If you don't want to (or you can't) spend huge amount of money for accommodation, in Tokyo, this is a suggestion: Park side hotel in Ueno/Tokyo. Walking distance from Ueno Station, major center for for train and subways. Even direct train from the airport there. Hotel itself is clean, very clean (Japan culture), with nice room selection and out of...

I stayed here during cherry blossom time and was thrilled to be able to see Shinobazu Pond from my room. It was just a short walk from Ueno Park where cherry blossom viewing was in full swing. Ueno is also a transport hub so you are only a train or subway ride away from anywhere in Tokyo, as well as...

We stayed here 3 times in April and May 2015 on short visits. Since it was busy season we were not able to get a room with a view. We were on the sixth floor overlooking the back streets and it was fine - very quiet each time. The beds are comfortable (firm) but the pillows less so. Only one...

The hotel is about a 10-minute walk from Ueno station. It has a vibrant and fun bar street on one side (a lot more fun for adult, single men, seemingly) and the incredibly beautiful Ueno Park on the other. If all that still seems dull, you can take a 15-minute walk down to Akihabara for all your neon-lit needs. The...

On our first visit to Tokyo, we stayed at the Parkside and we have returned to the hotel on each successive visit. The desk clerks always recognize us when we arrive and greet us warmly. The staff as a whole have little English, but enough to make check-ins easy and to provide information when necessary. There is one woman at...

I was lucky to have a room with a view. Large rooms with easy access. Maybe a hint of smoke odour , but ok. Nice bath. BIG! (for Japan) Very convenient to the zoo area, markets and station The street behind is a little bit seedy with all its girl bars and doorman waiting on the streets. But interesting.

short walk to Ueno onshi park and Ueno park that has many museums, temples, shrines and attractions like the zoo. Ueno is not a shopping district but opposite the hotel there is a 7floor mall called ABAB and a vast street market behind it. I got all my souvenirs here. It doesn't look that safe so go with company. If you are...

It is well situated next to the park and 5 minutes walk from the station. Staff were helpful and English fine. Good free wifi, breakfast good buffet style. My single room was very cramped and musty, probably from previous years of smoking. Only Japanese TV channels. No iron anywhere in the hotel so had to go to a meeting with...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
