we slept on the top floor and kept awake about the noise on the roof, because of the wind. Bed was very hard. Big room but the bathroom was very small and I believe the only hotel with no electric toilet. Staff was nice, but for this price there are way more better locations to stay. walking distance to the...

If you're in Tokyo on a budget and don't want to do a hostel or capsule hotel, this is the place for you. It's basically a step up from a hostel- at least you have a private bathroom! It's easy to find, and in walking distance of Ueno station if you're coming from the airport or JR train. Stayed in...

Stayed here for 5 nights. Opted for a tatami room since wanting to have some authentic japanese bed experience. Regretted it at first because when I opened the door, it was smelly. Turned out it was the tatami's smell. It was overwhelming but it did not trigger my sinusitis. Later, I got used to it. The bed was comfortable enough,...

The hotel is located near to the Inaricho station. Ask around and most people there know where it is. It is quite hidden between buildings but the hotel is still visible if you walk past it. The WIFI worked perfectly. The heater was fine. The hotel staff had good commant of English. Most importantly, you can walk to Ueno Park...

We had a nice stay in a double bedroom on the 5th floor for 4 nights. Rooms and bathrooms are small, but all you need when you're out all day. We used credit card points to book this hotel at a value of ~$80 USD/night. AC and hot water were working well. Good water pressure. Staff was exceptionally friendly and...

My boyfriend and I spent 5 days in Tokyo. We stayed at Oak Hotel, Ueno for the entire duration. Our room was pretty clean and well-kempt. It had enough space for the both of us and for our luggage. The receptionists were very friendly and spoke good English! The hotel was budget and very tourist-friendly! Pictures and city maps were...

This place is okay for the price. The only thing I found was that the beds were really hard, the rooms really hot (either the air conditioning wasn't working or the power just not strong) and the maids were up early making noise in the hall talking loud. Around 8:30 am. The only thing that I really liked about this...

A small, clean and efficient hotel close to metro. Sheets and towels changed everyday. Quiet location and not far to get to the bigger prefectures in Tokyo. Very friendly staff. They even have umbrellas to use for free when it rains!

Oak Hostel is a good place to rest your head and get ready for your day exploring Tokyo. The hostel is located a short walk to the Metro and a bit longer walk to Ueno Station. There are plenty of facilities included in your stay here including kitchen, laundry and vending machines. The bed wasn't the most comfortable ever but...

Great start to my Japan trip thanks to the staff at Oak, I went with a private room, Japanese style and it was great. The best part of this place though was the front desk staffs area knowledge and ability to help me figure out how to buy some soccer tickets! They went above and beyond, also nice that when...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
