Room very small but very clean and absolutely adequate for a few nights stay. Food dispensers are available & laundry, but we found it always busy. Very close to metro and a good but very nice walk to the various sights nearby. We found it a great place from which to set off in a morning on a long walk... More

Stayed 5 nights in a single room, Japanese style. Everything is clean and relatively well maintained. Location is pretty good too, very close to Ueno station. It's more like a hostel, so very budget friendly. Value for money is good, but as a backpacking traveler my standards are pretty low. This is not for people looking for a relaxing or... More

I Stayed at the Oak hotel for just one night and I really liked it. The vibe of the place is great: casual, no-frills and yet enticing: the staff is gentle and attentive. Location wise is strategically positioned: a stonethrow from Inaricho station, in a quiet residential area but at walking distance from Ueno Park and Ameyoko market on one... More

Location is excellent: short walk from major train terminals including the terminus of the airport express. About 10 minute walk from Ueno Park with its several museums including the excellent Tokyo National Museum. Staff provided a detailed explanation with about 2 dozen photos showing how to get to hotel from train station. Room was clean, comfortable, with aircon, refrigerator, computer... More

Room equipped with toiletries, towels, japanese tea, kettle , tv (CNN channel only but seriously, who watches tv when you are on a holiday right?) Bed and pillow was... More

Stayed in this hostel because of the good reviews. However I was disappointed when I checked into a room that has awesome smell. The are some noise due to the aircon or heater in the middle of the night that continues throughout. Never mind about the small dormitory room and bathroom, but the staff should do something about the hygiene... More

Location is good near subway and JR station. We also liked to take a walk to ueno park in the morning (15 min) rooms are small but that's Tokyo. It was all clean and the staff was nice. There is a small kitchen and you can use the dryer and washingmachine

Traveled over new years so was limited in affordable options in Tokyo. Oak was ok, but the rooms are very small (even for Tokyo standards) and the bathroom, well think of a bathroom on a plane and it is not much bigger. Hotel is not new, so facilities are a bit dated. We were allocated ground floor rooms which made... More

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
