Happened upon the charming George Hotel by accident while roaming aimlessly around the English countryside. There is a proper bar with a proper log fire and proper friendly locals. The interior has been modernised a bit but there is still enough of the original to be welcoming. The big win is the menu, which is excellent. However, we opted for...

The George is designated a 2 star hotel, but it is 5 star in welcome, warmth and atmosphere. The food is brilliant, the attention to detail and kindness great. I can highly recommend it after a four night stay. I shall definitely go again.

We visited here for a quick supper, there was no welcome and it took a while to find somewhere to sit despite it being quite empty. To be fair, our waitress was on her second shift, and she did very well, all things considered. The manager, or owner was quite brusque with her in front of us. Our food came...

Was a drizzly day and four of us were looking for lunch. The George was first pub we saw so we went in. Good menu choices, lasagna. Fish n chips and fish pie all good. The steak was not cooked as requested but my friend ate it. A good lunch stop. Nice seating areas helpful staff.

Looks quaint on the website. When you get there it's NOT! Free parking is a joke owners block car park with a huge white van. Then are rude when asking a paying customer to move the car!! Rooms worn in need of refurb my friends room wouldn't even lock. She was told to wiggle the key!!!! Food was ok but...

Thanks for the interesting review. The car park was not blocked by our van, which is a standard size and not 'huge', it was parked in our parking space, you were politely asked if you could move your car in the morning as it was blocking us in and I needed to get my daughter to nursery. We have just...

We arrived from London, really gorgeous pub recently refurbished. Beautifully done, it smelt of the real wood fires. It had a lovely atmosphere and friendly helpful staff. We ordered the food, whilst it took almost an hour to arrive it was nicely presented and delicious! The rooms, well, a bit of a different story....we booked two single rooms at a...

Thank you for your review, we are pleased that you enjoyed your meal with us. Apologies that your room was not what you expected, all of our rooms are individually decorated, which may explain why it was a different one pictured on our website, however they are next on our list to be refurbished now that the downstairs of the...

This was our 2nd visit to the George. We stayed with a dog in the same room as previously and found it redecorated and improved. The pub itself has been updated and feels very welcoming but still full of character. A good night's sleep, excellent evening meal and very satisfying breakfast. Will return next time we are in the area.

From the outside this looks like a decent but ordinary pub but inside it's a pearl. A great deal of care has been lavished on the ground floor public spaces - snug in some places - open in others and everywhere there are quirky and tasteful decorative elements. But the food... oh my gosh the food. Whilst my colleagues were...
