What an amazing stay! Anneke is such a wonderful host and has literally thought of everything! We stayed in the hummingbird room and it worked perfectly for our family as our 2 little girls shared the sofa bed. The room has a fridge, kettle, cutlery, mugs etc. The bathroom is lovely also. It’s set on a beautiful property with a lovely garden and even have a chicken coop!

However (as with all b&bs) it’s the host that really makes the stay, and from the first second we arrived Anneke was so welcoming to us. She was amazing with our girls and they felt like they were staying with a grandparent! We got a lovely strudel on arrival, nice smoothies, she took the kids down to collect eggs from her chickens, just wonderful. The breakfast was also amazing the soufflé was delicious.

Honestly couldn’t recommend staying here enough and it’s just 10 minutes or so away from the lovely Coombs and the goats on a roof attraction, Englishman river falls, and various beaches.

Thanks for a wonderful stay, we’ll definitely be back!

Dear Andrew and family. Thank you for your kind words and glowing report. WAW. I became more energized with those lovely girls. Glad you felt quickly at home, (even though you stayed in the Woodpecker Suite and not the Hummingbird ) remember? It had a little kitchenette microwave etc. O well, what is in a name eh? Yes please, come back soon. We will have to match the marking point and measure growing result. So happy the girls had a good time and the chickens enjoyed getting some attention. All the best to you and your lovely family. Hope to see you soon again. Anneke

We were a crew of 4 blue collar guys working a 10-day stint in Port Alberni. We happened upon Cedar Song online during our search for hotels and thought that a lengthy work trip deserved more than the usual hotel room treatment. We weren't expecting much, but wow, we were blown away by the honesty, compassion, and adaptability of the host, Anneke.

We were working 12hr rotating shifts, and Anneke made the effort to send our morning shifts guys away with fresh coffee and a packed breakfast, while our night shift crew enjoyed a peaceful sleep during the day. We certainly weren't the typical B&B guests, but Anneke made the effort to be a gracious host, and in turn our time there felt like that of a week at our long lost grandmother's.

Her property is expansive, heavily wooded, offering near total privacy in the late hours to sit on the patio and enjoy the sounds of nature. A recently built chicken coup initially had us worried about cawing roosters at the crack of dawn, but there was just the curious clucking of hens and fresh eggs on the menu every day.

Each room has a mini-fridge, sink, and an assortment of cutlery, enough for a late night snack or similar. It's expected you'll spend the day exploring the surroundings and sampling the various dinner menus at restaurants in the area. Cedar Song is a wonderful base to plan your excursions and exploration of lower Vancouver island.

As a host, Anneke simply can't be beat. A worldly traveller, her experiences and stories are enough to entertain the most travelled of visitors, and she shares her experiences openly and without filter. If the house is Cedar Song, then Anneke is the chorus.

Our time there was brief and unfortunately marred by an uncooperative work schedule, but our whole crew agrees that given the opportunity to return to the area, we will be staying with Anneke at Cedar Song.

Thank you for a lovely time, and I hope we see each other again soon!

Hi Guys, WOW. It is humbling to read this accolade in such detail. Thank you for all your kind words. The pleasure was totally mine. I am glad you choose to stay here, even if it meant you had to travel 45 min each way to work. It was fun to experience so much laughter. Everyone was respectful and very appreciative. Some guests like to make a light evening meal in their own room, They enjoy eating in the yard or on the deck or have a glass of wine. I will never forget the food you all brought home the first night. It was out of this world! And for a change, I was the recipient. Thanks Nath, you are a wonderful gourmet cook and Kyle a great BBQ expert. Those mega steaks were perfectly cooked. Mike liked the hammock, and the Ontario guys loved sitting outside on the deck or the covered porch to unwind from work and relax. It is indeed very quiet here. NO rooster and we keep it that way. I can't wait to welcome you back again!

Went there last month with my family! So loved it! Do you know what Cedar Song means? I asked the hostess, she said " when the wind touches through the cedar trees here, it felt like a song." (The wooden house is located in the woods and surrounded by trees... My mum and our family friend we all loved it)
Signature touch: cedar tree leaves on our breakfast napkins
You have a piece of Holland, a feeling of home, a touch of heaven here. You experience warmth, artistic display (paintings on the wall in my room were done by the hostess herself, you will be amazed!!)
Breakfast is authentic, beautiful (better than hotel) style and of nutrients.
Again, you can experience the touch of delicacy and love from the way everything was presented to you.
Not to mention the first night (we arrive on Friday night 8pm ish as we had dinner in Parksville) how extremely welcomed and warm we feel with the refreshments and winter fireplace.
Anneke goes to great extent gave us so many good travel location suggestions and really made our time on the island extremely memorable!
Btw, the rooms were extremely well organized and clean and thoughtfully well equipped and honestly, it is way better than hotel would offer...!!

Dear E. Thank you for your time to write this sweet reply. It was an honour hosting you as our guests. . It is good to see how our guests appreciate the details and the food we serve. It is my favourite part of the business. Our home" Cedar Song" was custom build by my late husband Ton Van Vugt, all tastefully done with dedication and love for detail. He saw the potential, and by selectively clearing a few trees, he created 5 acres of forest into a beautiful peaceful setting. That is indeed what people experience. Please come again soon, and try out our latest" forest bathing" experience, available for your guests this summer.

Cedar Song B and B, Errington, BC: On the recommendation of friends who have stayed at Cedar Song, we had a most peaceful, rich, and friendly visit over a four day stay at the B and B. The setting was quiet and natural in a rural forest in Errington (near Coombs and Parksville), replete with chickens, a garden, hummingbirds, and wild black rabbits. The B and B was immaculate and comfortably furnished, our suite was spacious, with all the amenities, and many personal touches. The breakfasts were fabulous—carefully prepared creations made with fresh eggs and ingredients from the garden. But best of all was our host, Anneke, with whom we shared good conversations, stories, and past adventures. She treated us like friends and made us feel a part of her home. We will definitely go back there again! Ken and Diana

Dear Diana, Thank you for this wonderful feedback. The pleasure was mutual. Lucky for me, I got to know your stories and how you made many volunteer contributions in countries abroad. Your desire to serve others in third world countries is also a great testimony. Serving in many ways. I do breakfasts, you do medical and we both serve to our own ability. Thanks for visiting and appreciating Cedar Song for this purpose. We love to welcome you back.

This summer my husband and I had booked a few days at Cedar Song B&B and cottage. We were met by Anneke and immediately felt at home. Staying at Cedar Song is more like visiting a close relative than staying at a B&B. Anneke was the perfect host, offering amazingly refreshing drinks and cooking the most wonderful, absolutely spectacular breakfasts. Anneke offered suggestions on what to do during the day and the many sights to see. When we returned, we were met with refreshments, snacks, and of course her loving personality and hospitality.
We would both highly recommend Anneke and the Cedar Song B&B for anyone staying on the Island. We will definitely be back and look forward to our return stay at Cedar Song B&B.

Kelly and Star, your words make me blush, but indeed, you quickly became like family! I love that about our guests; when they feel relaxed and at home. It was hard to say goodbye, as it was so easy to connect with you. Thank you for touching my heart too, sharing joy and laughter. It feels good. Stay healthy and come back soon!

From the time we arrived, when we were greeted with delicious apple strudel, I knew we would have a nice time here. Anneke treats her guests as friends, so the atmosphere is always warm and friendly, and breakfasts are amazing. It's a lovely peaceful setting, but there are plenty of interesting places to visit that are nearby. We particularly enjoyed Englishman's Falls.

We were greeted with the greatest warmth from the host, Anneke, already upon arrival to her lovely home surrounded by beautiful nature, centrally located 45 minutes drive from Nanaimo and close to the main roads to the north, south and west. Every morning we looked forward to the nice and delicious breakfast table. Anneke was very helpful in informing about sights in the area. If we come to Vancouver Island another time, we will definitely come back to Cedar Song B&B. We can give the place our very best recommendation.

Cedar Song is a great place to stay. It is quiet, peaceful and relaxing, equally enjoyable in the summer (soaking up the sun on the deck last August) or in the cooler weather (cozying u to the fire last week). Anneke is a superb hostess, amiable, helpful, and attentive. She enjoys the company of her guests. We were welcomed like friends from the moment we walked in the door. Her home is clean and comfortable; the breakfasts she prepares are delicious and plentiful. Cedar Song is a wonderful retreat.

The cottage is located in a quiet, peaceful, tranquil country site. Prior to arrival Anneke and Glen stayed in touch to ensure everything would be ready for us up for our stay. We were pleasantly surprised by freshly baked strudel in the kitchen which was delicious. Once we got settled in, Anneke came to greet us with a big hug. On our first morning, Glen arrived with hot, fresh delicious blueberry pancakes. The cottage exceeded our expectations. We had an excellent stay.
