Having been in lockdown for a long time, we really wanted to find a hotel that was luxurious and also had lovely views of the sea. We stumbled across Hotel Maricel on Booking.com originally, then went to book directly with the Hotel with little to no deliberation!

We had high hopes, and we certainly weren’t let down. From arrival all the way through the departure from the hotel, I thought the standard was exceptional.

We booked a room in the newer part of the hotel called the ‘Natura’ building, and we actually ended up in an even nicer room than we were expecting with an extended terrace. The room in general was lovely, super spacious! It was really nice to have that extra space where you could sunbathe on your private terrace.

The staff were all fantastic throughout our stay and really made us feel at home. Leo in particular stood out to us, when he greeted us on our first day.

Location wise you’re about a 15 minute taxi ride away from Palma (will cost you around 10€). There is also a bus that’ll take you into Palma for 2€. Make sure you have your mask for both options!

All in all, would recommend this hotel to anyone. The sea views you get from here are incredible! We didn’t want to leave and we definitely can’t wait to return soon.

The location of this hotel provides for simply breathtaking views! Located directly on the sea, you can enjoy a glass ow wine, a snack or a whole meal while viewing the sea and boats. The staff is very welcoming and accommodating. THe spa is located in a separate building from the main reception but they have a splendid walkway lined with landscaping to help you start your relaxation early. My suit was well appointed and the views could not be beat.

In the summer I'm sure there are large numbers of visitors in the area, but during the of season it should be noted that many of the nearby restaurants and shops are closed. I might suggest renting a car and going down to the Portals area. It's around 4Km. I took the walk, but a car would make it much easier.

On a side note, while this hotel is part of the Marriott Bonvoy program, they do not honor all of the program benefits including.:

We were unable to experience the full arrange of services given the time of year. Restaurants were being refreshed and the spa was inoperable due to COVID. That being said our stay was only slightly impeded.

The room was in the main building and its main feature was a large terrace on which to lounge and enjoy the sea views. The pool looked inviting but as the temperature was chilly we did not use it.

Breakfast was excellent with myriad pastries both savoury and sweet. Fresh squeezed juices were available. The hot choices were varied with different breads on offer. The only drawback was the room which might have been a school dining hall. Dinner, in the same hall, was very good.

The main reception area, which includes the bar, requires a good redecoration. Colours are tired and the furniture does not match. Outside on the terrace drinks and snacks may be taken but again the weather needs to be good to entice one to sit there.

Overall this hotel needs to judged in more favourable conditions, notably weather. It has the ingredients for a top rating but requires some simple upgrades

The hotel building, the location by the sea with direct access to the cristal clear water, our room with a sea view and a large terrace, the bar terrace and the pool area was all very beautiful. What didn't live up to a 5-star hotel was mainly the food and the service. There was just not enough staff and the few there were did not excel in their level of service, friendliness or flexibility. The food was a great disappointment, it was tasteless and that has nothing to do with the Pandemic, the staff problem may be excused on the pandemic. If the food (we tried breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner) had been good it might have been value for money but it wasn't. Some examples the fish was dry, the 4 cut pieces of fruit for breakfast was at times past due date, the scrambled eggs were chevy/dry as if heated up under a heat lamp and tasteless, the Caesar Salad again tasteless chicken and dry Padana cheese and not Parmesano Reggiano. One evening we had to wait over 35 minutes to get 2 drinks and that after telling the only staff we found available which was the receptionist. The waitress handled it well though when she eventually turned up with our drinks. The presence of management was missing. It was beautiful to sit and enjoy a drink looking out at sea and a full moon from their "Bar" terrace. These are difficult times but as we at the time of the booking were told that all would be up to usual standards we were disappointed. They had also just reopened after the lockdown so maybe we were unlucky but on this occasion it was not value for money.

Beautiful place, lovely rooms and great food but so many screw-ups in their service, albeit always friendly.

This is a pricey 5-star hotel - but virtually every thing we have ordered in restaurants or by room service or concierge has either not arrived, was confused or was altogether wrong.

Dreadful hotel, As a Marriott Ambassador you are required to stay 100 nights + per year in Marriott Bonvoy hotels and spend a certain amount. Last year I stayed 249 nights, this year I’ll do 109 nights or so. By staying this often in hotels you get a good sense for what’s good and what’s not.

As a 5 star hotel there are certain things which you expect.

When you arrive, you should be greeted by staff where they help you with luggage. This wasn’t the case here.

As an Ambassador you usually get the choice of free breakfast or points, now I usually choose the free breakfast. However this wasn’t offered here, which turns out to be a good thing based on other reviews we have seen about the breakfast.

Overall the service was terrible.

Also as an Ambassador you get a room upgrade, now the hotel sells itself as this luxurious hotel right in the water. We ended up in the very back building Natura 2 and could barely see the ocean. Not an upgrade at all. I compare this to what other hotels do for their loyal members.

The room was awful, dated decor, and really cheap looking. This is the thing to be aware of at this hotel. You think you will be in the main building but this isn’t the case usually. If you end up in the other buildings it basically ruins your hotel experience.

Overall I hated this hotel and the service so much, I told my partner we weren’t spending a single euro outside of our room cost and parking.

At the end of the stay I asked the clearly incompetent staff member to send a copy of the invoice to my email. This never happened.

A few days later I followed up with an email requesting the bill. But I ended up with someone else’s bill. Absolute breach of privacy.

Still waiting on my invoice and nights to be posted to my account.

I personally think Marriott should cut them off as a hotel because it degrades the Marriott Bonvoy brand and consistency we are use to getting from Marriott Bonvoy Hotels.

Stay clear of this hotel. A few KMs down the road is the St Regis where you will get looked after with 5 star service.

We do offer the other benefits such as the points or late checkout or room upgrade upon availability. Your reservation was made for a Natura Dreamer Room in the Natura Building and you have received an upgrade to a Natura Deluxe Room. As you may see on Marriott Bonvoy web page in the description of the hotel about the two buildings and as well in the description of the room in our web page ¨the room is located at the Natura building, a modern building which is accessed from the Palace by a nice passage. Second line of the sea. ¨ Nevertheless we are sorry if this information is not clear enough. We were very concern regarding the invoice information and have brought this incident to the immediate attention of the Front Office Manager so we can make sure this will not happen again. Again, we apologize for this mistake. We chose this resort to celebrate our anniversary. Very much looking for a romantic getaway. As I write this in August while we are still here , there are multiple children clearly under the age of 12 who are doing flips in the pool, getting on each other’s shoulders and splashing about. So the “rule” about no children being allowed to stay at the property in the summer is not only false, but these kids are obnoxious. The staff are oblivious to saying anything. Also, we had advised that we were celebrating and the hotel has made no acknowledgement of it which is surprising. Also one of the few hotels that doesn’t include breakfast even as a upgrade for a titanium lifetime elite member. Pool is gorgeous, room is lovely (although shower floods the room every day due to poor design), sea is amazing….but if you think you are getting away from children, you are not. They are clearly staying here (has been occurring multiple days while we have been here) and their behavior is not enforced to be quiet without splashing. Pool lunch food is ok, lunch/dinner food at the terrace is expensive and tasteless - would not suggest eating here. I would also suggest staying in the natura building with the plunge pools as our room is lovely, but the rooms in the main building have very small windows and the ocean view is very small due to the size of the windows. I’ll update if anything changes…if I could post video of what is occurring without breaking privacy rules, the management of this hotel should be appalled.

Hospes Maricel is an attractive period building beautifully situated on the sea with great views across the Bay of Palma.
Unfortunately the pictures of our room type (luxury sea view) on the website did not reflect the reality of the room we were allocated on the top (third) floor. It had just one tiny window which made you feel like you were staying in a cell.
The website stated that the hotel was adults only until October (no children age 2-12) and yet there were children running around us and screaming whilst we ate dinner on the terrace. The hotel explained that they had accidentally taken a booking for 11 that night which included several children.
The food was not bad in general. The service was well meaning, but chaotic. Management conspicuous by its absence.
Price creates an expectation and Hospes Maricel fell a long way short of its price tag and the way it positions itself on its website.
It's such a shame. With better management, this could be a really good hotel

The Hotel is a stunning historical building by the sea, but unorganised leadership of the hotel makes the stay not worth the high pricetag. The newer built spa wasn't intact (the pool should be heated and clean with a swim passage to the outside , but instead just wasn't turned on properly and closed off to the outside area). The big stairway into the sea on the main terrasse wasn't attached yet, so we needed to take a small ladder into the sea in a back end of an not yet prepared lying area. The "not yet prepared" argument threads itself trough the stay - which is not acceptable at this pricepoint.

The lack of organisation and management was somehow remedied by Laura from the front desk, who proved great problem solving skills and amazing client service. She endured our criticizing and solved most of the problems in the end.
Most of the other staff members were super lovely as well!

The hotel itself is really nice and the rooms are nicely decorated. The food at the hotel is not very good and they could really work at better food. The roomservice food was barely eatable at times which is too bad. The service could also be a bit better. The spa was really nice. But overall for the price of the hotel I don’t really think it’s worth it, they should work on the details. Ask for what room you want because some rooms are not as in the pictures.

Dear RCM, Greetings from Hospes Maricel & Spa, We would like to inform you that our indoor Pool is heated, located in our Spa Bodyna. Our Spa Bodyna opens from 8am to 8pm everyday. Hello, the spa is very very small. It also has three floors and a tiny hot tub inside I had a wonderful service with Rosa and the service was excellent. But it is not a big place it is a very small venue. I hope this helps. I wish you a wonderful birthday celebration. I bet if you let the Spa Mgr of the spa know they could do something wonderful for you.
