On arrival I had a fall and hurt my head. The staff were so helpful and got the chef who was the first aider to come to my aid and made sure I was okay. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant and nothing was to much trouble. The staff were friendly and made us feel so welcome. Our...

We attended a wedding reception/Party and had an absolute ball!. Good facility and staff were very attentive offering good service with a smile! This hotel has been upgraded since I lived in Penicuik many years ago. Good to see some serious money invested in this place. Roll on the next party. Thanks.

One night stay. The staff were very friendly. Helpful and accommodating. Our only down side was our beautiful room was at the top of the hotel. The staff were brilliant. Beautiful views of the hills. Plenty of tea and coffee. I have given 5 star because nothing was too much trouble. The building is old and has seen better times....

I'm normally a Premier/Holiday Inn type of a guest, (I stay in hotels around ten-twelve nights a month), but sometimes the budget calls for a B&B instead and with the Edinburgh Fringe in full swing, this was one of those two-night stays, where I take a gamble and throw the dice to see whether I've done right, or made a...

This hotel is no more than OK - the room was worn and due for some refurbishment, as was the bathroom. There were screwholes in the walls and some black stains (moisture?) in the bathroom. Down stairs is a bar which smelled of old cigarette smoke. Breakfast was decent and fast but not very nicely presented. When we got back...

We spent two night in this charming old building. The staff were very friendly and attentive as well as knowledgeable about the local area and visiting Edinburgh. The bar attracted locals who were every bit as friendly as the staff and we had a thoroughly good time there. Rooms were well maintained and clean, food was good (for the UK)...

Work booked this hotel and upon reading some of the reviews I was not looking forward to my visit, after a very long drive we got there to be welcomed by smiling staff, they couldn't do enough for us, quite a contrast to what I read, my 2 night stay was great, staff very friendly, even the locals were friendly,...

After a long day, we were exhausted and just wanted to get some rest at our hotel. Yet this was not to be. First of all, when trying to check in, we found a little girl sitting in the front desk doodling. The hotel’s “front desk” is actually the bar. Once we finally managed to check in, we went up...

We had the misfortune of staying here for 2 nights. Don't make the same mistake. What has been billed as a hotel is little more than a local (and rather rough) pub with rooms attached. The reception area is pretty much unmanned and the only way you have of getting service is by going to the pub next door. Our...
