Brown Owl House was recommended by a friend from another village nearby. We needed somewhere comfortable on the Cotentin Peninsula not too far from Cherbourg, but we desired a farm stay or gite. We were so happy we followed our friend's recommendation! We were excited when we turned our rental car off the country road onto the gravelled driveway of...

Phil & Pierre are fabulous. The kettle went on as soon as we arrived, which was sorely needed! The room was immaculate, and their house is too. We hadn't arranged to eat with them (they can provide evening meals with advance notice) but wished that we had, as they are excellent company, and indeed, we would have stayed longer had...

We stayed but one night. Pierre and Philly are the most wonderful hosts and very friendly and welcoming. The gite is spotlessly clean and fresh. There was nothing more you could want. We left the following morning with a bag of freshly picked plums and Philly gave us a jar of her homemade jam. The location is ideal. The next...

What a wonderful place to stay. Phil, a lovely irish lady and Pierre, an equally lovely French man were the perfect hosts. Good food, good company and all the home comforts you could wish for. The area is just what you would expect in Normandy - lovely countryside and lots of places to explore. Being only half an hour from...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Brown-Owl-House 400 year old hay barn converted around 15 years ago. It has 5 bedrooms. The living room, vast and open-plan, is part clear up to the rafters, part overlooked by an attractive mezzanine. Three of the bedrooms have views over the immense garden and tree-lined fields. The twin room overlooks the front of the house, and the family room over the fields. All rooms have tea/coffee making facilities, hair dryers, and bath robes. Evening meal can be arranged with 24 hours notice. Homemade jams accompany the breakfast. To the front of the house there is a large parking aera. The nearest golf course is at St Jean de la Riviere or la Glacerie around 20kl. One of D Day landing beaches, UTAH BEACH, on the east coast is between 30 and 40 minutes drive away. The beaches on the west coast, one of many is Barneville-Carteret, with their sandy coves and rocky pools are about 15 to 30 minutes drive away. The more rugged coastline is situated further north. All beaches are unspoiled and quiet. Cap De La Hague is another place of delight that must be seen. We are well placed for visiting the D Day sites, Natural Parks and numerous quiet beaches. 10 minutes from Valognes and St Sauveur Le Vicom. 15 minutes from Bricebeque. 25 minute drive from Cherbourg. Nearby is horse riding, swimming pools, fishing, canoeing and green ways. A car is necessary to visit the area. The port of Cherbourg is 35 minutes by car, Ouistream (Caen) is 1.5 hrs by car and Le Harve is 2 hrs by car. The nearest airport serving the British Isles is Dinard, approximately 2 hrs away. ... more   less

“We called to book one week ahead of our visit in August 2011. It is a busy time, we were lucky that Phil and Pierre had a cancellation. Book as soon as you know you will need accommodation. We only saw the Family room on the top floor. It had a nice view of a cornfield and surrounding countryside.”
