Each chalet is nestled in the surrounding jungle to make you feel like it’s all yours to enjoy. We stayed in Kundasang which was a twin chalet. Basic but very clean and in keeping with the natural surrounds. The room consisted of 2 beds, bedsides, a suitcase shelf with handing frame and a small table for tea/coffee. High ceiling with ceiling fan and aircon, bathroom with shower and sink and an outdoor shower attached. It also had a lovely deck with table and chairs and felt like you were really in the jungle. It was more than adequate and very comfortable. All the windows had screens so it was lovely to leave the door or window open and enjoy the sounds. The plunge pool was lovely and had a nice seating area around it. Reception was a hut in the open and the restaurant was an open air timber style. Overall they’ve done a lovely job of bring the outside in and vice versa. Staff were all fantastic. Very friendly, helpful and keen to point out any wildlife including wild orang utan on the property, squirrels, the neighbor’s dog Steve etc. Restaurant food was excellent. The menu features a lot of dishes with truffle which was unavailable at the time we were there but we weren’t disappointed by any of the food we had. Also good vegetarian options. Breakfast was basic with cereal, toast, fried banana and hash brown, a rice or noodle dish etc. The resort is close to the Orang Utan and Sunbear sanctuaries. Approx. 1.5km or use Grab for 4 ringgit each way. Also close to the Rainforest Discovery Centre. There are a couple of closer accommodations but speaking to others we met, we were very pleased with our decision to stay at the Forest Edge. Travel to and from the airport was only RM11 by Grab each way. Download the Grab app before you go. To manage expectations, this is not a 5 star luxury resort but is clean and comfortable and you won't be disappointed. Yes, it is pricey but it's a unique environment and you're paying for the experience. We saw plenty of wildlife, really enjoyed our time there, loved the relaxed environment and highly recommend the Sepilok Forest Edge Resort. …
Comfy bed slept amazingly well. Room had everything we needed for our 2 night stay. Staff friendly and food great with a good bottle of red with the biggest wine glasses. Ideal location for visits to the sanctuaries.
And excellent couple of nights prior to a tour down to the river… Had a really great stay, the staff are very friendly and super helpful. Loved the food options with something for all tastes (often difficult as a vegetarian but was spoiled for choice) and it’s great for wildlife! We were very fortunate to spot 2 wild gibbon in the grounds and made friends with the resident dog! It’s perfect for visiting the Orangutang sanctuary and about 30 mins walk to the Rainforest Discovery centre- they booked us on one of the night walks there which was well worth it. The rooms are pretty basic as expected but actually look better than in the pics online and effort has been made to be as eco as possible. We did use the plunge pool which is weirdly shallow but a nice relief from humidity! All in all, very nice and would recommend!…
Super helpful staff, decent food and nice rooms. Easily the best ground for wildlife of any of the accommodations at Sepilok. Five species of Spiderhunter, Orangutan, Bornean Gibbon visible from grounds.
Ideal location for Orang Utangs and Sun Bear rehabilitation centres. Warm welcome at reception, staff interested and engaged with our plans during stay.Fireflies at sunset boat trip with meal arranged by lodge. Accommodation clean and bed comfortable. Did use our torches for additional light at night. Restaurant staff attentive and evening meal really tasty. Breakfast offering rather different between days when bigger group staying, or just a handful of people. Bar staff a credit to the lodge.
The place is ok, it is out dated like most hotels in sepilok. The location is great the restaurant need to up its game a bit then the accommodation is passable but not luxurious. Yes it is the jungle but still it just needs a good bit of renovation and charging what they do per night it is not a big ask!! There is a new resort just opened and it is really nice and sport on with its bungalow rooms! Spend some money and update it relying on work from 20 years ago for 100+ gbp a night is a bit much.
Superb experience in the jungle. Kind and attentive team who made us welcome and keep in contact prior to our arrival. The place is tranquile and calm. Walking in the jungle expect a few insects and lizards to join you. A welcome cinnamon drink was appreciated. The food is authentic Malay, no burgers here! The stir fried fern in chili-lemongrass was delicious. The chocolate wontons were a bit of sweetness in a crispy shell. The 30min hike took us into the jungle to have a safe experience of the wildness. The ac is efficient and the bed linen high thread count. The outdoor bath with a bucket shower is fun, ask the lizard to vacate first! The team made it very welcoming and special.
This place should be prescribed. The location is beyond expectations and the staff epitomise what great customer service is like. Nothing is too much trouble and although I could pick out individuals easily, everyone I met was a joy, friendly and helpful. Our accommodation was the best for seeing orangutan from the balcony. The bed was comfortable and clean. I want to come back and I’m not leaving until tomorrow! We will hopefully be back at some stage.
We stayed here for two nights as part of a tour of Sabah organised for us by Sticky Rice Travel. The main reason for staying was to visit the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, Rainforest Discovery Centre and Sunbear Centre, for which this hotel is very conveniently located (5-10 mins drive from all three). It was an easy 30 min taxi ride from Sandakan airport so worked well for our evening arrival. However, we also enjoyed the facilities whilst we were there! The twin room we had was comfortable with very effective AC, a nice little balcony with view of the forest, a small but well arranged bathroom (including a lovely, private outdoor shower option and an indoor heated shower). We had a set menu in the restaurant as part of our tour package - the food was plentiful and tasty, plus the staff were easily able to adapt to my shellfish allergy. The setting is lovely - lots of trees and plants, with plenty of birds and other creatures visiting. We just missed a visit by a baby orangutan and his mum one meal time! For us, a very nice start to our trip to Sabah!…
We stayed here two nights whilst on tour. It's conveniently located within walking distance of the Orangutan Rehab Centre which I guess is why most of us are in the area. We had a deluxe chalet consisting of a bedroom, bathroom and balcony, even at 'deluxe' it was pretty simply furnished with a comfy bed, A/C, dressing table, bathroom had a worn whirlpool bath with shower over it and rustic sink arrangement. It was clean and fine for a couple of sleeps. There were connections for a tv but none there. Central dining area/bar in the middle of the resort with the chalets set around it, only place to get wifi. Food was pretty good in the evenings but breakfast really basic, although they will do you eggs. Staff friendly and helpful. It's a clean and simple operation clearly aimed at giving people a base for visiting the Orang centre and not much else. Sandakan is not far away and some guests disappeared off there in the evenings by taxi. There is a tiny plunge pool but saw nobody use it. TIP If you visit the centre in the morning as part of a tour, your tickets are valid for the day, so you can use them to go back in the afternoon yourself if you wish.…
