We loved the location of the forest edge resort. A short walk to the entrance to the orangutan and sun bear sanctuaries. One morning we saw a wild orangutan from our lodge. The lodges are all well spaced out and are well equipped. The outside jacuzzi bath was interesting. Breakfast was good.
We only stopped here for 1 night but found the staff friendly, particularly the restaurant staff. The breakfast was included which was nice. There is a rustic feel to this hotel, I liked toasting my bread on the BBQ! The rooms are spread out around the grounds amongst the trees meaning the rooms aren't on top of each other, not for those with poor mobility. It is located around the corner from the orangutan and the sun bear sanctuary, it was a 5 minute drive, would probably be walkable in 15 mins. The room was clean and tidy, again very rustic, there was the option of an outside shower. Our roof did have a slight leak during a massive downpour which we forgot to mention but we have never seen so much rain! A nice place, great location.
Spent 4 days at the resort and it was the highlight of our Malaysia trip. Beautiful setting, near both the oragutan sanctuary and the sun bear centre. Lovely breakfast, great meals and the staff could not have been more helpful. The accomo dation was neat, clean and tidied daily. Would definately visit again.
It is really at the edge comparing with other resorts around the Rainforest centre or Orang-utans centre, however, it is still quite easy to call a taxi at the recieption, especially when eager to catch the early morning birding in the Rainforest centre. The cabin looks quite lovely and well qualified on its equipments and decorations inside room and bathroom.Breakfasts were not bad, if there were more variations from day to day, it would definately be better.
the room was fantastic for our family of 5. Excellent AC. cool indoor and outdoor(1) bathrooms. Great location to walk to Orang-utans and sunbears. Walkable (but hot) to Rainforest Discovery Centre - short taxi ride away. Menu wasn't the most exciting or inexpensive but just relaxing to walk from room for meals
Very nice and clean chalets within the resort. They offer a really nice breakfast buffet compared to what we have experienced in other locations. It is in walking distance (15-20min) from the Sepilok Orang Utahn Sanctuary. Staff is really friendly and helpful. We also had a dorm for one night and we would not recommend it. There is just a fan and no air condition in the rooms and the bathrooms have that particular “taste”. I would definitely stay there again!
The hotel was wonderful and the staff very attentive and helpful. The restaurant and cocktails are great! But beware of the mosquitos! We went on the firefly cruise and it was wonderful! The cruise took place on a small boat before nightfall, to have a good look on the mangrove in a quite and peaceful time of day, our great guide Yan gave lots of interesting information, we then watched the sunset on an island with a fresh coconut (bring you own straws) and came back on the river to see the fireflies! The experience is really romantic, as some times a couple of fireflies approche you and fly around you! We even saw a small crocodile and a couple of monkeys! We thank our guide for her kindness and good explanations and we highly recommend this very nice experience!
The resort consists of chalets which are nice plus a dorm option. We stayed in a chalet, visiting this place for the 2. Time. The chalets are quite nice, but our chalet had an aircondition that made a loud sound, and it was hard to sleep because of that. The chalets are basic, with a natural outdoor bathroom plus indoor bathroom. The food here is good, but too pricy. Especially are drinks very pricy, more expensive than in Nature resort which is the best resort in Sepilok. You have to pay everything as you go. Meaning if you stay for several days, you cannot add drinks, food and laundry expenses to your room bill. This is very annoying given the very high price range for this resort. The resort is situated 15 mins walking distance from Sepilok orangutan centre. If walking by…
In terms of competition, this felt on parr and recently re-done. We liked the homey atmosphere. Little bungalow was delightful, outdoor shower nice and bed and ammenities all good. Loved the jungle view and privacy and the walk to the central reception/cafe hub. Gorgeous little shallow pool and a wonderful deck to relax on. Not five star but who wants that in Borneo. It was super comfy and special and very thought through. Breakast really good in what was a pretty harsh environment to work in so as to actually meet a discerning guests needs. We had no problem with a few wasps who liked the pineapple jam and fried bananas as much as we did. Menu for dinner kind of limited and adapted to suit a wide palette but very good. Close to bear and orangutan sanctuary.
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Forest Edge Resort for three nights earlier this month. On arrival we were overwhelmed with how beautiful the location is (even compared to others on the same road!) and had a very pleasant check in experience with Mimi who was both friendly and informative. When we got to our room we noticed immediately that there was no mosquito net. On the walk to our room we were batting away mosquitoes, so this was a bit of a surprise. The girl who took us to our room showed us a bottle of red repellant and said “spray this before you go out around the door ways”. When she had left we realised it was industry strength repellent and bad for humans to inhale! So we never actually used this. The front door to our room didn’t close properly and had a good 3cm…
