The food (dinner for four and breakfast for two) were excellent. Heating in the room and bathroom were also excellent, i.e. the bedroom had three forms of heating which were so efficient. Tea, coffee & hot chocolate and a kettle were provided, as well as biscuits. Our room (No. 3) was not very clean. The bed linen, towels, bath, sink and toilet were all fine but the floors of the bedroom and bathroom obviously had not been vacuumed since the last occupants left as there were bits all over the bedroom carpet and skirting boards in the bedroom and bathroom. The small mirror beside the bed was covered in dust. It was not a problem for us, but there is no wifi and no mobile phone coverage, well not for O2 or Vodafone, anyway. There was no hair dryer in the room. I'm sure I could have gone across to the pub and asked to borrow one but by the time I realised there wasn't one it was too late.…
We had a lovely weekday lunch in the Rose and crown. Ambience was great. Lovely fire, staff really friendly and helpful. Food delicious. Not to mention Bruce the dog who was a real character. Will be returning again.
Saturday lunch get together. Two open fires made the inn welcoming upon arrival. Typical pub menu. Food well presented and very tasty. Cheese board highly recommended. Good service, friendly and unobtrusive. Will certainly return.
This is one of my local hostelries and one I go to with my friends when we want something more than standard pub grub. There are 4 or 5 choices in each section of the menu, with "small plates" being starters or lunches and "big plates" dinner choices. Two of us had the liver and bacon which came with mash and veg, and I chose the chicken breast with barbecue sauce, bacon and cheese (seemed like Hunter's chicken in all but name), which came with salad and fries. The meals were very nicely cooked and nicely satisfying. Two of us had sweets, usual fare of apple crumble, ice cream etc. Again, a choice of about 4 or 5 including cheese and biscuits which not all establishments offer these days. Overall, a very nice meal and the service was friendly without being intrusive. I would thoroughly recommend it.…
The inn staff is beyond friendly, Allan is the best cook and his breakfast second to none! This is our second trip and he even remembered that my husband wanted black pudding (few people do). The rooms as perfect, just big enough so that 2 people are comfortable. Great little snack bar with coffee and tea and biscuits - FAB!
