No stay could be long enough at Farndon Thatch. Bob & Jane are the consummate hosts. A drink with them on the patio when I arrived started the best B&B stay I have ever had. By the time I left, I felt I'd known them for a lot longer than a couple of days. I could gush all day about...

We arrived exhausted from a day of driving and sightseeing, but owners Bob and Jane made us feel right at home! We enjoyed drinks on their patio overlooking the most beautiful and lush English garden I have ever seen!! After chatting like old friends for over an hour, Bob and Jane recommended a local pub for dinner and we enjoyed...

Stayed for only one night during a circuituitous holiday in June 2011. Out of 9 B & B's this trip and 8 more in 2010, Farndon Thatch came in topspot! It was lovely chatting to charming hosts Jane and Bob who made us feel very welcome. There had just been an open garden day there and I must say the...

We regularly stay at B&Bs and this is as good as it gets. Bob and Jane could not be more helpful, hospitable or good natured. Lovely setting, comfortable clean room and excellent breakfast.

This very pretty thatched cottage is quite ancient in parts, sitting in the most perect English cottage garden, and with stunning views over the countryside. Jane & Bob must spend every waking moment trying to think of every possible detail to make their guests as comfortable as possible, because we found it impossible to imagine any way of improving the...

First a confession: we have known Bob and Jane for more than 30 years. So we were intrigued to see what they had done in their new venture. Rather as we had expected it is one of the very best B and Bs we have ever stayed at. They are wonderful hosts. Nothing is too much trouble. The room was...

From the minute we arrived we knew this was "Special". It is a beautiful thatch with garden to match. Jane greeted us with a much welcomed "Gin & Tonic". Bob helped with the luggage, showed us around and even booked a table at a nearby Pub Restaurant for us to enjoy our evening meal out. The villages are very scenic...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Come and discover one of Somerset's best kept secrets!! Dating back to the late 15th Century and set in one of the most beautiful areas of South Somerset near the old market town of Ilminster, this stunning Thatched stone cottage oozes comfort with touches of luxury. With an acre of wonderful plantsman’s gardens,(open under the National Garden Scheme) and panoramic views to die for, life can’t get much better than this! Choose from the Kingsize double with en-suite in the Medieval bedroom, or the SuperKing double/twin bedroom with its own private adjacent shower room down your own private landing . With beautifully sprung comfy beds, your own Freeview TV, hospitality tray with a selection of Indian, China, herbal and fruit teas and coffee, filtered water, hairdryer and independent heating controls, we aim to make your stay with us as comfortable and relaxed as we can. An iron and ironing board are available and we can help with restaurant/pub reservations. The guest sitting room has TV/DVD and wood burning stove in the old inglenook and there is wireless internet access and plenty of private parking. Our breakfasts are sourced wherever possible from our own and local produce and served in the stylish kitchen/breakfast room with wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. Enjoy a quiet drink in the garden on a summer’s eve, the scent of roses, while watching the cows return from milking. A great base for walking, cycling and bird watching with the Somerset Levels and RSPB reserves nearby. We are excellently placed for a number of wonderful National Trust properties and private Historic Houses and Gardens including Barrington Court, Montacute, Lytes Cary, Tintinhul, Forde Abbey, Hestercombe, East Lambrook Manor, Mapperton and Cothay Manor to name just a few! Being approx. 20 miles from both coasts and Dorset and Devon, a visit south to Hardy country, Lyme Regis, Bridport, Weymouth, Chesil Beach and the Jurassic Coast, or north to Weston-super-Mare, Burnham on Sea, Minehead, Cheddar Gorge and Exmoor National Park are all an easy drive. “There are 2 bedrooms, both of which have great character. The Victorian Kingsize/twin room at the back of the house might be quieter as its away from the road, but it would be a shame to miss the great beams in the mediaeval room at the front. Hard to choose!”
