Excellent location on the city side of Fitzroy. 5 min walk to Brunswick Street or 20 min walk to the heart of the CBD. A big park straight over the road. Friendly and helpful staff, cool atmosphere, grand stairwells, high ceilings, timber archways, comfy but busy common areas. The bunk beds in the dorms aren't super comfy but what do...

Clean and well-kept rooms and common spaces. Very close to a variety of pubs, markets and cafes. The outdoor patio space is very popular and a bit noisy, but there is an amazing park nearby if you need solitude. Would recommend!

Convenient located near CBD, parks and interesting food places. Generally clean rooms & bathrooms - walls might be a little thin for the light sleepers. Lockers are available in each rooms but requires the longer padlocks. Or rentable at a price. Kitchen facilities is a little cramp, but has basic necessity. Free breakfast available daily. Friendly & approachable staff if...

I stayed here just for my last night of a week's stay in Melbourne as my other hostel got fully booked. The lounge space was really nice here and I actually ended up spending some time in here, the kitchen was good but small for the size of the hostel and the rooms were clean but again small with limited...

Wow, what a place! We booked two beds in a dorm and were upgraded to a twin private. Aircon was out of this world good. Staff friendly, atmosphere amazing. Kitchen was a bit small but people were friendly and considerate with the space. I want to go back!

I've got bed bug bites from the Nunnerry, and there were 3 more girls had got bed bug bites from the same building. It was late night that I found bites on my body and I heard that my roommate actually had seen a bug on her bed, so we told the reception and moved to another room. I had...

Definitely one of the better hostels in Melbourne, and basically the only one in the hip Fitzroy area. Not a party hostel and relatively quiet, though it is still a very social hostel. Beds are cheap IKEA bunks that shake whenever your bunkmate moves. No free wifi (they offer paid wifi) and shared power strips for device charging. The rooms...

Great hostel in a great location directly opposite the Melbourne Museum and really close to Brunswick Street. I stayed in the guest house in a clean, comfortable room with great facilities. The free breakfast is a bonus.

I'd stayed here once before for a night, so I tried a 4-night stint this time. It's in a great location right near the 86 and 96 tram stops, and a short walk from lots of great eateries and bars in Brunswick & Gertrude Streets in Fitzroy. The free breakfast was pretty basic but reasonable, there were lots of bread...

Staying in Fitzroy

Neighbourhood Profile
Fitzroy is an unusual blend of working class roots, hip gentrification, and a robust bohemian work ethic. Along Brunswick Street and its side streets, you'll find little independent shops where local clothes and furniture designers display their wares. There are specialist bookshops, funky record bars, and quality vintage clothing shops where browsing is the next best thing to buying. Gertrude Street is famous for its cuisine and art galleries, but if you want to buy an old-fashioned snooker table, there is a shop for that too. Small pubs still exist, tucked away on the corners of suburban side streets that serve up traditional Sunday roasts. Live music abounds, and the street performers play so hard you worry to tip them would ruin their concentration. Venture to the Spanish quarter on Johnston Street and you may even find street dancing. It is all happening amidst off-beat street murals and the shuffle of a very funky neighbourhood that embraces both old and new.
