Simply put - it is one of the best stays we have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. We booked due to a special for Malaysian residents deal and took advantage of it. Service is second to none, the beach is clean and there is plenty of shade. The staff bring ice cream and fruit around every now and then and they also provide water, ice and a flask bottle with cold water The grounds are so lush and it's like a paradise in another world. Even though we had an unfortunate experience on our first night with our food and bill taking a significant amount of time, the F&B manager had a chat with us to apologise and explain what happened. We appreciate that there was an attempt to rectify the situation and even with this hiccup, the positives of staying here outweighed that negative. Definitely worth a visit if you're lucky enough to do so. Just a note: Book in to dinner as you may not get in to the restaurants during peak times

We hadn’t been able to visit our son and his partner, who live and work in KL, for nearly three years. The opening of the borders to tourists saw us booking flights straight away and they suggested we all hop over to Langkawi for a few days mid stay, and recommended the Datai. What can I say? This place is truly paradise on earth. From the moment we were met at the airport and transferred in considerable comfort, to the gong being sounded on arrival, check-in at the terrace bar, champagne, cakes, local drinks, a fully guided tour of our rooms, which are very comfortable, absolutely huge and beautifully appointed with wonderful views of the jungle, we have been utterly blown away. The beach is exquisite, the four restaurants serve the most amazing menus, the Spa has to be seen and experienced to be believed. The Nature Centre, such dedicated, passionate people, who love to tell you about the animals in the many, many acres of rain forest. The monkeys - such a treat to see, and dolphins in the bay. We are delighted that the resort is so eco conscious - no plastic bottles here, but reusable glass bottles and metal straws. The guided walk through the forest. Calling up a buggy to travel around the vast resort. I could go on and on. But what stands out more than anything, is the amazingly friendly, happy staff members, who really want to make the holiday experience the best possible, and they have done. My husband and I are well travelled and have stayed at some amazing hotels. Nothing and nowhere compares to the Datai, it truly is paradise on earth, and we really can’t bear to think we have to leave tomorrow, but we will be back here, and very soon.

We have been to Langkawi more 10 times and stayed at 8 different 4-5 star resorts and it was our third time to visit the Datai. Datai is definitely the best and our favourite place in Langkawi in terms of service, beach, surroundings, food, facilities and the best staff. Staff makes the place special! I don't know what the strategy they implement to make sure all the staff are properly masked all the time even outside gardeners. I have never seen any places like that! Big wows!!! I’m a foodie and I’m quite particular with my food. As I have been following a healthy diet, I can be quite difficult. However, I had no issues with food choice or quality of food. Staff always accommodated my food request and the service was a real 5 star. Wine choices in each restaurant were fantastic. We really enjoyed trying different wines for different foods rather than ordering a bottle. The temperature they serve in the tropical climate was perfect too for both reds and bubbles. Providing little snacks, water and drinks in the middle of the day on the beach was very sweet, too. One thing I'm not a big fan of is the room though. As the rooms are not private villa types unless you book above a rainforest villa, it can be very noisy due to neighbours next door and above. We could even hear alarms in the morning. Also, I struggled hearing footsteps from upstairs running around. One night, there were ongoing noises until 2am so we called the reception but the issue was resolved when we called 5th times. It was quite stressful. We had issues for our first and second visit as well and we addressed the issue when we checked in and checked out. There are definitely cons for the room, however, I enjoyed my time in Datai. The third visit, we booked the room with a garden and it was lovely. I always enjoyed having small talks with staff and they are the stars. I would like to say big thanks to all your staff, especially Wendy, the reservation team, Adam (I never remember his Indian name), William, Henry, Gaik Ying, Joyce, Michelle, the manager in the Dinning room (I don't remember his name) and too many. Also the general manager who always looks after his guests. Thank you again for your warmest hospitality and making our holiday so memorable again.

We booked to stay at The Datai last year but due to MCO it got postponed a couple of times. Finally we made it in late April. My husband and I came for a short trip to celebrate our birthdays and we thoroughly enjoyed our 4 nights at The Datai. We didn't book directly with the hotel because since the beginning of the pandemic, we decided to have our travel agent friend book everything for us, for it saves us the pain of having to change/ cancel bookings should unforseen restrictions happen. We very much enjoyed our stay at The Datai. It felt like everything was very well thought through, every detail looked into, from the design and outfitting of the rain forest villa we stayed in, to the upkeep of the grounds, the ice water service at the beach,... and we were discussing how we did not see one service staff check their phones when idle (which is now a pretty common sight elsewhere when there isn't much to be done). Our villa was spacious, the bed comfortable and the bathroom well laid out. We loved all the windows which makes us feel like we are living in the trees. The big balcony was also very much appreciated. It was lovely to just sit out and listen to the different sounds while trying to spot interesting residents of the forest, which are likely watching us curiously from their hiding spots. We were most impressed with the commitment of the hotel to reduce the generation of trash, the putting back in the the ground what can't be recycled or sold as scrap and to compost all food scraps, etc. We learnt all this at the permaculture activity, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We also loved that there was no paper napkin, or no single use anything in sight. We didn't even need to break out our bamboo straws & hankerchiefs. Filtered drinking water in glass bottles bottled at The Datai indicates a strong commitment of the resort to protect the environment, and that they are not just paying lip service with The Pledge :) Lovely, we will return for sure.

Recently, my extended family all came from the UK/Aus to spend 1 week at the Datai. This was their first time and we hoped they enjoyed it as much as we had done in the past. They were not disappointed. They absolutely loved it and even wanted to extend their stay by another week. The staff are unbelievably good. Attentive, thoughtful, proactive you really can't beat it (anywhere). Malaysia service often leaves something to be desired, not at the Datai I would put it in the category of the Aman and other such resorts that tirelessly train and retain their best staff. In terms of food, their are various options, which are all fantastic. The breakfast buffet is very good but like all hotel buffets best missed if you can get room service. Gulai is in a league of its own if you like local food - it is done at the highest level. The beach villas are worth every penny (don't tell anyone tho as we don't want them filled up..). The butler service is second to none, lots of space, walk out onto the beach - really an exceptional experience. The GM Arnaud has done a fabulous job with his team and all kudos to him and his team. Couldn't recommend the Datai enough. Exceptional.
