I have just returned from a 5 day Shearings coach holiday in Holland staying at the Hotel Mennorode in Elspeet. An interesting Hotel set in deep forest with no transport links to any local facilities. Hotel is set in deep forest approx 1 mile from local Village of Elspeet. No street lighting so not easy to walk to village at night.
Whilst the food provided at the Hotel Mennorode was acceptable, particularly the breakfast, the dinner buffet was not portion controlled therefore they ran out of some food. Substitutes were offered but looked remarkably like the previous evenings meal. Be aware tap water is charged for!
The Hotel bed room was cramped and whilst we had single occupation in a twin room there was no bedside shelf/table, no chair and having a sink in the bedroom was not helpful. Beds were very soft and pillows very soft too. Room was clean and daily housekeeping provided but no tea/coffee replenished. No cups only cardboard cups provided. No air conditioning in this Hotel either.
The staff at our Hotel were very nice and could not be faulted.

The surrounding of the hotel are very nice and you can really enjoy walking for hours in the woods (watch out for wild boars, however); the hotel in itself is more attuned for meetings than family visits. Food is Dutch average at breakfast and lunch (so not very good looking and enticing), coffee is the worst ever. We could not enjoy dinner a la carte, therefore, I cannot say if the chef was good (we had BBQ food in an outside tent, which was, again, nothing really special) or not. The dessert cart was decent and I have particularly enjoyed the macaroons, thou. Rooms are pretty basic, there is very little attention to cleanliness (the carpets in the wings I was full of big stains). There is also no safe in any room, which I found very annoying. Mobile and Wifi connections really sucked.

Could book a nice deal and had a very enjoyable few days with my friend.
Very nice and helpful young lady (Lieke) at reception, a lovely clean room with comfortable beds, seats and a good shower. The centre/hotel is enormous, but all very well laid out. Situated in a beautiful area, great for walks and bike rides. Breakfast was varied and plentiful, the dinner we had one night a bit salty for our taste, but well presented.
All the staff we met were very pleasant, helpful and friendly

The bedroom and bathroom were very dated and are in need of renovating. The bedroom definitely needed a bedside table on both sides of the bed , to put a cup and a phone etc.
The staff were helpful and friendly.

The area around is fantastic, unfortunately the hotel its self is very basic and not 100% clean, also no airco . This is the first hotel I have ever been in that did not have a fridge to put my water, wine and food in. Otherwise, the rooms are OK, staff were pleasant, and the breakfast was average, at 140 euro a pop for one night we expected more. Would we book this again, probably not

Surrounding is beautiful. Hotel is fine, rooms are quit large with very comfortable beds. Breakfast is ok, a bit average. The only thing is that there wasn't enough personell to clear the tables. All the dirty dishes etc. were left on the tables so it was difficult to find a clean spot to habe your breakfast. Just one lady there and she couldn't cope.

Attended a conference and was gobsmacked at how lovely the natural space was. It felt like being in a tree house during while in the retreat building.
The room was fine. A twin bed, a desk, a sink and shower, cupboard, and TV. My room overlooked a small internal courtyard, which was lovely.
Some things were...weird...the shower felt like a prison shower: think 1969 USSR shower, the lights would not work unless a key card was left in a slot in the wall, so if you wanted to charge anything while being out of the room, say attending the retreat, then too bad or you. I asked one front desk person for an an extra key and got a 5 minute shake down on why. I got the distinct feeling she was questioning my morality, like I was just waiting until dark to hustle in any of the men staying in trailers out back. I returned later and lied to a different desk person. Said I had lost my card and received another one promptly.
The service was very cool. Not as in "acceptance", but standoffish. There was no customer service burning through the veins of the staff. They were nice, but just.
And brother, when lunch/dinner was over: get out. I had staff remove the silverware from my hand. From.my.hand. And I was eating rather quickly as I had got into lunch right at the top of the hour and didn't want to be rude by staying, but it was 15 minutes past and they wanted me and the three people I was sitting with to go.
Also, woe to you if you are a vegetarian or vegan. Two of our participants were and they LITERALLY received bowls of cut carrots and cucumbers as the vegetarian meal. It was so epic, that it just became funny. We rented bikes and rode into town to hit a grocery store so our friends wouldn't turn orange from all the carrots :)
If I was attending a retreat, i would so go to Mennorode again.

Mice in the breakfast room. Water Bottles and glassware left in my room for 5 days, not cleared away. Beds not made properly, just pulled up. Ecological shower, did not drain very fast so room subject to flooding. Room very tired, almost depressing in its decor.
Breakfast - so many chickens gave up their eggs just to have them made into rubber scrambled egg. You could have plugged holes in the Dutch dikes with the eggs. Cheese and meat left under hot lights for the duration of the breakfast to be brought out again for lunch.
Lunch - as bad as breakfast
Dinner - as bad as breakfast and in their bestro area the food looked good. Why did we get the sloops? It was not as if the accommodation was cheep, quite the opposite.
Staff - pleasant but thin on the ground and no sense of urgency or customer care.
I will never be back in this hotel and will tell as many people as I can to avoid this hotel like the plague.

Indeed a great experience and as we wanted. In the middle of the forest, just step out of the hotel and you are in a beautiful forest.
Had long walks in the forest with our 1 year baby, was pretty good.
Hotel is well situated, and rooms are quite good. Breakfast is good.

I was at Mennorode attending a conference in 2017. It was the room and food included.
I got there by the hotel shuttle service. That is the only possibility without a car, because it is located totally in the middle of nowhere.
The nature around it is quite nice, though.
In general everything seems quite old here, like from the 70s.
Focusing on the room: The bed is alright. There is no hair dryer. Despite it being announced differently in the offer, the room does not have a desk.
The major problem: Wifi did not work in the room! This was also promised. I inquired at the reception about it, they promised to look into it. What happened? Nothing! I asked multiple times and got nothing! Later, other guests confirmed it was not working for them either. So that was a huge disappointment!
It was working in some public areas, but not well enough.
I liked the food that was included, it was a good mix with lot of salad options, meat or fish and sides. Some other guests who stayed before felt that the quality had declined and it wasn't all organic. I don't care about that, the food was good! And they had amazing desserts!
All in all: Of course the only relevant choice if you go there for a conference, but they don't keep their promises!

These rooms are within our single category and does not have a desk. This information can be found on our website. This year we have restyled all our twin rooms and before the end of the year all rooms are equipped with a hairdryer and coffee and tea facilities. Concerning the food, it is good to hear that you liked it. Concerning the food standards and the focus concerning organic we have not made changes in our policies.
