Het Roode Koper is a stylish Relais & Chateaux hotel in the midst of the forest of the Veluwe, in the heart of The Netherlands. It's a paradise for nature lovers, romantics, culinary gourmets and families with children. The hotel is surrounded by 3000 hectares of forest. There is a classic landscaped garden, a tennis court, a heated outdoor pool and the mail building has cozy lounges with open fireplace. It's a special hotel for a relaxing stay with gastronomic moments in the Michelin-starred restaurant. National Park The Hoge Veluwe is 30 kilometers nearby and it's only one hour by car to visit Amsterdam. Pearl on the estate is the sunny private villa with living room with fireplace, kitchen with private chef, sauna and garden overlooking the forest.

Hotel Het Roode Koper is a top-notch choice for anyone seeking a quiet and beautiful getaway. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful scenery, offering a level of peace that's rare to find. The bikes available for a reasonable fee are a big plus, making exploring the local area easy and enjoyable.

The service at the hotel is exceptional. The staff is both friendly and efficient, meeting and exceeding expectations at every turn.

The food is also worth mentioning. Each meal is well-prepared and delicious, adding to the overall excellent experience of a stay at Het Roode Koper.

In conclusion, Hotel Het Roode Koper provides an excellent stay in a beautiful setting with great service and fantastic food. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable escape.

We booked the all-in 75th jubilee arrangement for two nights, which included 5 course dinners, bicycles all day, a guided tour of the woods, champagne appero. Staff is top notch, so is the hotel and the estate. The chef knocked it out of the park the first evening, overwhelming delight, delicate composures and refinement. Best meal in the Netherlands, ever. The kind of experience that makes you hesitant to go back the second evening or leave with a perfect memory…the second dinner was just as amazing. Hotel and estate are highly recommend, the cuisine is worth the entire trip and makes the price for the room a bargain. Compliments to the nature guide and the Sommelier.

We had such wonderful stay in Hotel het Roode Koper for Christmas and New Year. Of course everything changed due to covid but nevertheless the staff did everything within their powers to make it a real warm cosy Christmas. Every morning a tray with a delicious breakfast and dinners in the room but it really gave you the feeling as being in a restaurant. We had such an incredible time. The tours in the garden by night, with the delight of a drink and some bbq snacks was so well organized. A big thank you to each and everyone of the staff who made our stay so memorable despite the ongoing pandemic. We will be back next Christmas!

I am working in a travel company, who made a booking in Het Roode Koper for July 2023, and I wanted to express my profound disappointment and frustration regarding the booking experience with the establishment.

Our company specializes in curating luxurious travel experiences, and we have been in the industry for over two decades. It is with regret that I must convey our dismay at the lack of cooperation and understanding displayed by the management team during a challenging situation.

The booking for a delightful getaway in July 2023 had to be canceled due to a sudden illness within the family, a circumstance beyond our control. When initially inquiring about the booking for six individuals, we were provided with specific cancellation conditions. To our astonishment, these conditions changed following the confirmation. Contrary to the information on the website, which cites adherence to the Uniform Conditions for the Hotel and Catering Industry, it appears that the hotel selectively overrides these conditions.

What is particularly disconcerting is the inconsistency in communication. Initially, we were informed that the booking could be rescheduled for future dates, only to be later denied this option.

In our two decades of operation, we have collaborated with numerous high-end establishments worldwide. Regrettably, the unresponsive and uncooperative attitude displayed by Mrs. Sorensen, who even failed to reply to my email, has been unparalleled. Despite not requiring a deposit upon confirmation, only after the cancellation, we were promptly invoiced for the entire stay (Eur 5 700), including three, four, and five-course dinners for six individuals—a booking we cancelled 14 days in advance. Moreover, the inclusion of travel agency commission in the invoice is both surprising and disappointing.

Typically, in the hospitality industry, a professional and customer-oriented approach involves exploring mutually beneficial solutions. This could include offering future stays, discounts on subsequent reservations, or other gestures of goodwill. Unfortunately, we witnessed none of these efforts from the hotel and we understand that they obviously don't appreciate our business.

It is regrettable that our initial promotion of the property has left us disheartened, as the cancellation policy appears to be misleading and unfair. A fundamental tenet of hospitality is ensuring guests feel valued and cared for, yet, in this instance, the focus seems to be solely on financial transactions.

Sincerely,
Tatyana Zhelyazkova

Response from Jon-Ivar Sörensen, Owner at Het Roode Koper
Responded 27 Jan 2024
Dear Mrs Zhelyazkova, What a disappointment to read your review. Since it is so beautifully, detailed and clearly described, we may conclude that there should be no concern about your ability to correspond in English. It is because of this and the well-considered structure of your complaint that we are all the more baffled. To be sure, I have repeatedly read our response email to your brief cancellation email to ensure that we had not accidentally replied in hieroglyphs or by accident sent our reply by pigeon post... What a relief to find the email (see your inbox, our mail dated 20.06.23) and that it states, all in line with our great ambition to have satisfied guests, the following; "(.....) we can also move the reservation to another date. We do this free of charge." @Tatyana; You are untruthful in your complaints. I hope you have a manager that asks you for all the correspondence. Should she/he exist she/he is welcome to contact me. For all readers, travel enthusiasts and culinary connoisseurs: rest assured... we are a 76-year-old family hotel with a huge heart for hospitality. Jon-Ivar Sörensen - Owner

I gave five stars, but it’s a bit more 4.5 to be precise. The hotel is not easy to find unless you have a very precise navigator (either human or artificial). Once there you can enjoy a good diversity of locations where you could lodge. I got a very spacious room in one of the dépendance; comfy bed and comfy office space; I did not spend that much time in the room, so I did not test all the amenities. Food was very good in all cases; the breakfast was actually excellent; the only thing that did not really work was the meeting room we got; it was cramped and uncomfortable. The thing was utterly odd and annoying because there were free, bigger and more comfortable meeting rooms just shy of the main building. I’ll definitely try to go back there with my family

It's not often that you find a place as truly special as Het Roode Koper. We were traveling from Finland to meet up with our Dutch family and friends, we needed a retreat that was good for families and fur babies and had wonderful food. We found Het Roode Koper and decided to give it a try. All I can say is- WE WILL BE BACK!! In fact, we already booked next summer before we left. The hotel grounds are beautiful, the thatched cottages/chateaus are tucked in the forest, the food was incredible, the pool was refreshing, all of the staff was 100% on it all of the time- our servers made our holiday one that my children will remember forever and we look forward to seeing them again next summer. We have found the home away from home that we have been looking for, this is not a place you only visit once.

We stayed several times at Het Roode Koper before and decided to have our 25th. wedding anniversary here. Beautifully located in the woods, nearby De Hoge Veluwe National Park. A heaven for bird watchers and (big) deer enthousiasts. Wild boars can be seen roaming around the woods.

It provides absolute peace and privacy in a stunning environment. It was a party to remember. We booked the whole estate for this event and family & friends from all over the world came to this lovely oasis. Everything can be tailored to your liking. Top level service, very friendly and accommodating staff. Beautifully appointed rooms. Their one-star Michelin Restaurant served the most delicious dishes.

A perfectly organized mountainbike trip and sheep herding demonstration delighted young & old. Relaxing at the beautiful pool or taking a lovely stroll through the woods was next, before the outdoor party under a starry night started.

Superb. Having stayed at many excellent places, Het Roode Koper certainly belongs on this list.

Highly recommended. A hidden gem.

The hotel staff and employies made our stay fantastic and unforgettable! We had a family and friend get together and with all the COVID restriction the stay was safe, wonderful and amazing. The food was outstanding and the service incredible fantastic. We did a carriage rides, mountain bike tours, nature walk or laying on the heated pool and everybody had a fantastic time! Highly recommend to stay or visit the hotel when you are in the area! Thanks a lot for the great time and will come back soon

Beautiful location, in the middle of the woods. Hotel rooms very comfortable albeit slightly dated. Staff very welcoming and good at their job.

The food is exceptional. We had 2 nights with the 4 course dinner and each course was delicious. The chef is very creative with the terroir yet avoids getting all snobbish like so many Michelin restaurants.

We will definitely come back to enjoy the food and cycle around the Veluwe.

Highly recommended!

No, at least not at the central lobby, there is a small staircase going down to the toilet. The rooms outside the main building may have facilitated access, but to be honest I did not check. The parking lot is on gravel, not very handy for wheel chairs.
