In The Netherlands hotel guests may enjoy the hotel restaurant; one good reason to spend one Sunday night in this charming hotel. We were lucky with the weather, we could walk in the sun with our dog and afterwards enjoy the hotel and the restaurant. The hotel is great to look at, very traditional "horst", and the restaurant was simply fantastic.
To start with the positives: Our room was spacious with a good sized bed and a lovely big bathroom. The staff were polite, helpful and made every effort to maintain a sense of normality despite the corona restrictions. The food was very good. For dinner one could choose between a 3 up to a 7 course meal either meat/fish or vegetarian. They were generous with a number of small tantalizing amuses (I could have eaten a kilo of the crab sesame sticks!). Breakfast was a special treat which was also kicked off with an amuse...lovely touch. Points for consideration: 4 courses should have been enough for a hearty meal but fell well short. The gardens were not at their best in October though the sculptures were well worth viewing.
Had an amazing stay and dinner at De Havixhorst. Pricy, but very worth it. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. Dinner is Michelin-worthy with staff that is extraordinarily well trained and obviously very happy to be working there. Beautiful wine pairings came with every course. Rooms were huge, beds amazing, bathroom huge but maybe a bit outdated (but what to expect in an old chateau), breakfast beautifully served at the table. Couldn't complain about anything as this was simply an amazing stay. Well ran hotel and restaurant with an amazing team. Chapeau.
This was one of those places you stay you really want to like but you just never quite feel at home in. The Chateau is beautiful and the would have to be the most spacious room I have ever stayed in. The service was for most parts good except for one person whom it seemed that we were bothering him just by being there but he was the exception to the rule, the rest were willing to help. The wifi was without fault. The furniture in the room seem not to match anything and it’s only purpose was to take up space. The 2 main draw backs for me were when we ran a bath the water at best was just the hot side of Luke warm and the same for the first shower in the morning. The other thing was the person above was running a marathon in his room until well after midnight. In all our travels we have never complained about the noise of another guest but this was the closest I have ever come. I can’t blame the hotel for a noisey neighbor but they do need to be aware that the noise so easily carries from above to below. So take away the noisey neighbours my only drawback was the hot water really the rest was fine or better. We would stay here again.…
A former old estate, located in a natural forest. Relaxing and quiet atmosphere. Room was located in the attic, furnished little bit too dark. Elevator is slow and can be somehow strange-scarry. Garden is extremely nice full with sculptures. Service is excellent.
Gorgeous and stunning property ..the rooms were amazing the staff outstanding and the food delicious . The gardens are spectacular hotel is pretty much like a small museum !!!! Discovered it by accident and loved it so much spent an extra night !!!
What a beautiful place. We felt as if we were Lord and Lady of the Manor. Our room was large, clean with a beautiful bed. Modern bathroom, very clean. We had dinner here and it was superb. Five star at a reasonable price. Service could not be faulted. An elevator has been fitted, which we were grateful for. The breakfast was also great and served individually.do yourself a favour and stay here.
We stayed here for one night at our trip from Norway to Netherlands. After a long day at the autobahn it was a blessing to come to a place like this. We had ordered a suite with dinner - the suite so spacious and nice - the dinner an experience in Michelin-class. And next morning - after a night in a wonderful bed - a special breakfast with full service. And really really cheap experience too. And the place with storks at the pipe and a wonderful garden with lots of sculptures. Will love to be back and stay for longer.
My rate would be Very Good instead of an Excellent, I wanted to go for an Excellent but I seriously had to change that. There's a reason behind my decision and read on as I shall reveal any of that. When you arrive there's a real castle look and feel to it. The spaceous driveway and spaceous parkingplaces gives you that comfortable feeling not to wory about anything. When you walk thru the ironcast gateway you feel like a Duke who's entering his pied à terre in the Netherlands. The garden is well maintained and the outbuildings look like if you arrived by a carriage and the staff has run out to welcome you. At the reception we had to wait for a while because there was no one there and a member of the staff who was about to run out to serve the other guests told us that he would be back soon. We where welcomed, received our room key and they where most willing to assist us with our luggage, the skiped a few important details about our stay wich we had to sort out later as we went to our room first. We where graciously led by a member of the staff to our room and there's an elevator for use if you have some luggage with you. The room was very spaceous and very tidy with feautures from the past that gives you that 18th century feel to it. A dated bathroom, has to be said, but clean, a walk-in-closet, a seat with table, television, complimentary water and even a Nespresso machine. The beds are very comfortable and if you have any requirements just don't hessitate to ask. Our room overlooked the courtyard, very nice! Note: the rooms can be noisy especially if there are children or people who are not aware about other guests!! The dinners where outstanding with a good price/quality. We where treated every night to a four course and one night to a five course dinner. It's dining on its best. The staff is most courteous but not obsequious and very professional. However if the sommelier isn't present the staf seems to have any dificulties with choosing or advising the right wines and have difficulties with understanding the guests request as in; 'I don't like any fish' and still ask if your replacement could be meat or fish?? Apart from that there's an excellent chef at work who understands the local produce and produce from their own garden. Overall the staff are very friendly and helpful in anyway they can. The breakfast is one of a kind, you'll get served on your table. There freshly squeezed orange juice, home made smoothie, eggs anyway you like, some fresh bread, croissants, home made jam etc. etc. etc. Just ask if you wish any more of that. And the best part is, just take your breakfast leisurely. Very enjoyable and excellent quality. Outside there are a few places where you can sit and enjoy a glas of wine or whatever fancies you. Overall, the Havixhorst has the full package. The staff acted sometimes a bit unexperienced in a way, but we never felt uncomfortable by that. So there's still room for any improvement and who knows when we will return I might go for the Excellent status. From this splendid hotel you can explore 'het Reestdal', National Park Wieden-Weerribben (Giethoorn) or 'Het dwingelerveld' Worth a visit? A big YES!!!…
