We really enjoyed our stay at Pelangi and even with a surprise hotel package we managed to get a poolside room not too far from the lobby. The resort is going through some work so it’s hard to judge it fully as the spice market (main breakfast area) and reception are being refurbed. The room (we changed from 3508 to 2501 to be on the ground floor due to baby) is traditional Malay style and open out onto balcony and then pool which is great. It did mean that there were mosquitoes around and we did get bitten even though we were told they tend to be more prominent 6-7pm only. Mosquito plugs are provided and the aircon is good and helps. Rooms are pleasant and bathrooms well equipped but this isn’t you’re traditional 5 start hotel room so go in with the right expectation! Breakfast is plentiful and nice that it stays open until 11am and the variety is wide, more than we needed but caters for guests from all regions. We asked and got a cot and bath for baby but any requests are promptly responded to, except for buggies which due to size of resort are high in demand and can take time. Be warned the one way system means you can be close to the lobby and still take time get dropped off. We didn’t have time to use the kids farm, gym or spa but the on site Cba was great and we were there twice at sunset which was perfect. Ala carte nicer than the other offers. The staff couldn’t be more helpful. Burton at reception and Nafsaruddin at Cba in particular were helpful and welcoming (the latter being our expert photographer!). The pools are great for kids, it’s easy to call a taxi to nearby cenang beach but I don’t recommend the on site tour agency or shops as they are overpriced and cenang beach has plenty more to offer for value for money. I’m sure if we came back when everything was open and opted for a beach view villa then we would undoubtedly give this 5 stars. For now it’s a hugely enjoyable 4 out of 5 but will hold a special place in our hearts as our first long haul family trip. Also, the beach is stunning!

Pelangi Beach Resort has not lost its charm for nearly 3 decades of its existence. The location on Pantai Cenang is extremely strategic. While the hotel is going through a renovation, the staff are well trained and courteous. You would not feel the difference. It has 2 massive pools and is super fun. However, due to the renovations, the breakfast is served in the grand ballroom. Being a vegetarian, this is normally the part that becomes challenging. However, thanks to its magnificent Executive Chef Zainuddin, this was truly an amazing experience. The server was Mr. Murthi Krishnan and I have never had anyone serve their hosts as warmly as he has! The curry me is one of the best I have ever eaten… anywhere! We will definitely be back! Thank you Team Pelangi!

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel and last time we were not impressed until the deputy manager helped and assisted us to make what could have been a bad experience into a good one. This time we are only staying a couple of nights. There is some improvement works going on, but the level of service at the front desk is still excellent. We have ordered a couple of time from rook service, and although it takes a little while for the food to arrive it is really good, very tasty and well presented. Last time I really hated the roti chani as this was like cardboard. This time it has been cooked fresh and everything else is excellent. Staff in the restaurant, last time were very lethargic and were more interested in being on their phones. After our complaint last time there was a massive improvement and I am pleased to say that the standard of service now is even better, so a big well done to the management, who obviously took our complaints seriously. It dose show and all staff are brilliant. Will be nice once improvements have been finished with the hotel, but they certainly do not detract from an excellent stay. Hopefully be back soon.

We stayed 6 days at Pelangi. It was a great experience from the rooms to the beautiful private beach! The 3 kids stayed in a family room which had a queen bed, 1 single bed and a sofa bed which can sleep 2 small kids comfortably (though we did not use this). The parents stayed in a garden terrace which was pool facing and had a hugh king bed which was splendid! The rooms were well maintained. Our rooms came with breakfast and Executive head chef Zainudin was superb! I need apples daily and simply couldn't find them in the supermarkets. He ensured those were brought to me daily. Before discharge, my luggage hinge broke and he provided cling wrap for me to secure the luggage. He really went out of the way to cater to my our needs. Pelangi should be very proud to have staff like him promoting their brand! The international breakfast spread was great as well with manned egg stations and noodle stations. The Cenang town was just 5min drive away with all its delightful shops, restaurants and tourist vendors. Will certainly head back to Pelangi when I go to Langkawi again!

Room Tip: room walls are thin so kids should stay in family rooms which are more tolerant of noise.

My extended family of 10 persons stayed 5 nights and we had 2 family rooms and 2 normal rooms. The hotel is rustic-style but clean and well maintained. We found it very relaxing. The bed was huge and super comfy. Location is excellent with the beach next to it, and the street of shops and eateries nearby. Breakfast buffet is good. My masseuse at the tropical style spa was very good. The kids loved the cascade pool and the animal “farm.” Good range of facilities. The best part is the staff. All of them were very friendly and helpful. In particular, the Executive Chef. My sis in law happened to speak to him on the first day and made some requests which he readily helped. He checked on us every day, and when he wasn’t available, he got one of the other chefs to do it! He was even there on our last day to say good bye. Amazing! He should be highly commended for going above and beyond in service and care for guests. The only downside of the stay is what the other reviewers have already mentioned - they need more buggy service. If this is improved, then this would be a perfect place to stay. Overall, my entire family enjoyed our stay and everyone gives it 2 thumbs up! We recommend this resort to anyone going to Langkawi.

So as i arrived on a Monday 6th june for check in, we waited and got our buggy ride to the room as we reach our room the key could not open. I waited in hot sun for 15mins with kids which we have already waited in the lobby for 1hour. Then thankfully the housekeeper open the door to me and explain the door has no more battery and need changing. Hence the reception came and gave new keys without changing the battery although reported. Then came at night where we had to walk because their lag of buggy on 5 for such a big resorts when i finally reached my room the key could not open again and i had to stand in the dark with my family of 3 kids for almost 30mins just to get someone to open. Bear in mind there were dogs and also monitor lizard around... btw the time he came he as well could not open because battery died. I could not understand the service of changing the battery door battery it was only AA size 3 piece. Next their buggy service is so bad that they only have 5 and everytime u call they said 20mins so are they a 5 star hotel? If its in the morning we can walk but night and hot noon its really not desireable to walk. I have asked the concierge they said they only have 5 buggy operating... for such a big resort? Next the management is such dishonest when comes to price. They change the price of the food in the system without changing the menu price. As i have order something on tuesday then ordered the same the next day but price have increase and was told it was management. Cant remember the FnB manager name but it is proven embarassing management who cant work and comminucate to the staff i pity their staff.. All this issue are from management... so management 1 star hotel staff 5 star... better change the management...

We were looking forward to return to Malaysia and in particular Langkawi for the last two years. This was our 3rd stay at Pelangi, and it couldn’t have been better. We had a beachfront family room which was a very good size, clean and comfortable for two adults and one 4 year old. Both the pools are big and great for long swims and the location right on Pantai Cenang gives the option of a good swim in the sea as well ( or any other water sports - there’s quite a lot on offer along the beach. But the best part of our experience was the care and effort by all staff to make our time special. Unfortunately our daughter suffers from multiple allergies and all the staff was aware of this and took the extra mile to make sure that she was always catered for. Sincere thanks to all the chefs in Spice Market and CBA for providing allergy safe custom meals every day. And this was a very important point - the food at Pelangi is good. We really liked Spice Market for local flavours but chef Zakaria at CBA is a magician on more westernised fare. We ended up eating there more often than expected! One other point that is important - we needed some medical support and there’s a clinic within the Pelangi - the staff and doctors were brilliant and very supportive. Overall we left Pelangi already dreaming of our next stay. We look forward to come back to Langkawi and staying again at Pelangi.

I have last came here back in 2008 when it was renamed Meritus. it was good and almost a 5 star standard hotel of that era. The breakfast spread was great and everything was there. However visiting it recently, the main building is under renovation and basically the function halls have been converted into shops. Not sure what is going on under new ownership that has changed the name back to the original. The breakfast spread has also become pretty standard continental fare. The buggy service is too slow until we could find a shortcut to walk to the reception building across the street. The rooms have also gone a bit lower in standard with no more bathrobe. However there are adequate towels and decent enough still. Unusually the wardrobe and luggage rack are integrated into the bathroom and the bathroom can be seen from the outside front window. So be sure to use the blackout curtains. Conveniently there is a water pipe just outside the room to wash off any sand or dirt before entering. In-room meals have relegated to basically some kind of KFC menu. On the whole, the resort is undergoing a huge transition and very not sure what will happen to this historic place.

It is awesome place to rest and unwind, staff are nice. The only downside is the buggy takes long during check in and check out time and doesn’t pick from pool area. And they have happy hour at different pools so take advantage of that. The pools is right next to beach so you can go to beach and then come to pool and unwind.
