We just returned a few days ago from a trip to CR that included 4 nights at Nammbu. We had a nice stay with our two teenage children and especially loved the pool and the restaurant staff. The beds in the rooms were very comfortable and the rooms were very clean with great A/C. Each evening we watched from the pool area as macaws flew into a nearby tree to roost for the night and we could often hear howler monkeys in the distance. Views from the restaurant and pool are spectacular. Our room did not have a view. I would recommend that you ask for building 5 (second or third floor) for great views of the beach. But as other travelers have mentioned there are some things you should know about this property. *It's not a full-service resort. The registration desk is not open 24 hours a day and there are not things like laundry services available. If you need to check out before 9am, you need to go to the registration desk the evening before to check out as there is no one there in the morning. There are no elevators that I saw so if you are in a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor be prepared to carry your own luggage up the stairs. If the hotel is not full, staff to help is very limited. *The property is built on a hillside and all of the paths to walk to the restaurant, pool, etc. were designed for golf carts, not humans. They can be very steep and there are no stairs. So if you have mobility problems it might be an issue. If not, your calves will get a workout walking straight up the hills with 75-80 degree inclines. *The property is not on the beach but has a staircase and walkway down to the road. There is beach access directly across the road. I do not recommend accessing the beach there, particularly with small children. There is a fresh water inlet very close to beach in front of the hotel where there were crocodiles (including a large one that we saw). Access the beach farther down towards the center or be aware and avoid the fresh water area. I think it's a safety issue that the front desk should tell guests about when they check in. They told us that we how we could access the beach from the hotel but did not mention the crocodiles nearby at all. *The rooms are barren and feel unfinished. In our room there was no place to hang clothing (no rod with hangers, not even a hook on the wall). I had to drape my dresses over a chair. Large rooms with very little furniture-no place to put clothing other than a couple of cubbies in the bathroom. We stayed in Nammbu beach hotel for 3 nights in room 706 (February 28 to March 03). The full amount of our booking was debited way in advance, and twice! When back in France I contacted the hotel by phone and emails, but never received any refund so far. That is clearly unacceptable and I opened a reclamation with AMEX. On the hotel itself, rooms are indeed very large and pool area nice with the view on playa Carrillo, but the restaurant is very expensive and the staff there needs serious training about guests management.

Please note that we stayed the Nammbu Beachfront Bungalows (more like a Hotel) in February 2020 just before the pandemic., and it was great. We merely a five minute walk from Playa Carrillo a beautiful unspoiled beach. The rooms were spacious and views from the room are fantastic. The sunset over the Pacific Ocean viewed from the pool area were spectacular. The staff is professional and friendly. I would label this hotel a Boutique Hotel, it is small and out of the mainstream, but definitely worth a stay.

Nammbù can both delight and frustrate in equal measure. Rooms and bathrooms are enormous, impressive, but probably unnecessarily large. The front desk person on two occasions was rather confused or unhelpful only to be helped on another day by one who was a dream. We needed to arrange a COVID antigen test on a rush schedule and the desk person made it all happen with plenty of time to spare. Pool and view are magnificent. Beach with most spectacular sunset on the coast minutes away. Food and drink are overpriced, but you pay for the convenience of proximity. Grounds staff are friendly and quick to provide service with a smile. Could things be improved? Of course, but it’s travel in COVID times and we need to be more understanding of the challenges the hospitality industry has faced and continues to face.…

The restaurant service is terrible! 1st night there I ordered a drink and it never came. The bar person never showed his face after taking my order. Then they tried to charge me for it. At lunch the next day we walked in and only 2 tables were being served, ordered drinks , took 25 minutes to get those, and another 25 minutes to get our food ! They got my order wrong and sent it back due to allergies to shrimp. These were quesadillas. Waited another 20 minutes no food and I had to leave for a tour. Please note there were plenty of servers but rarely saw one at my table or nearby. Also it is the only restaurant on property. So you are stuck.

There is no beach and no beach view from most of the rooms. The name of the hotel is misleading. They absolutely do not have bungallows, but rooms. Big empty rooms. Poor kitchen, unprofessional staff. The only good thing is nice pool and big bathroom. Room view was terrible. No sound insulation, one is listening to the neighbor' s conversations. Avoid this hotel.

At Nammbu there is no customer support! These people are thieves! My boyfriend made a reservation in November 2021 to stay at NAMMBU on January 30th for a friend's wedding. In December 2021, we canceled our reservation there because I found a better room at the wedding hotel: Punta Islita Autograph Collection, where I had a wonderful experience. It's been three months in which I have consistently communicated back and forth with Nammbu's customer service to get my cancellation refund, but I only get the same excuse every time. One of my friends, who also attended the wedding, went through the same hassle with NAMMBU, but they refunded the money in one month, which is what they first time told me. The first time I asked for my refund, a customer representative told me that a hold takes at least a month to be refunded, but it has been three months! These people charged me around $400 and haven't paid me back. That's stealing! They say they have been experiencing "issues" with their bank. It's a total lie. I have been patient, but I think I'll have to take legal measures. Don't even try to make a reservation at this place, or you will go through a nightmare!…

This place had a tour bus vibe. We stayed 4 nights and each night we watched buses coming and going with large groups of seniors. With each arrival, the pool and bar would fill instantly. We had hoped to have more of a quiet boutique feel to the place. The staff could also use a bit more passion, for lack of a better word. It felt like they were all here just for the paycheck. Most disappointing was the complete lack of a closet. There was no place to hang dresses or nice shirts, only shelves placed in the bathroom. I had to hang my nice clothing on the towel racks. Patio lounge chairs would also be nice. Every unit has a huge deck but most were only furnished with a single hammock or chair. Lastly we arrived to our room to find the safe had no key. We had to wait for staff to come back to find an appropriate key. Positive: beautiful pool and views with a sandy beach close by, with beautiful sunsets.…

This is the nicest hotel in Carrillo, you will not regret staying there and enjoying the view from the pool. Their rooms are great… clean, spacious. Staff is super friendly and willing to help you get around. This is an amazing area to enjoy nature and relax.
