Hotel Waldhaus is family run since it opened in 1953, when tourism in Bettmeralp first became possible after a cable car to the town was constructed. The current owner's dedication to maintaining the hotel's high standard for hospitality is evident everywhere. Upon arrival, each guest has a hand-written note waiting for them and luggage is delivered directly to the rooms from the cable car.

Many of the rooms are suites with a spacious sitting area, desk, safe, wardrobe with plenty of hangers, and mini bar. Some rooms have bathtubs as well as a shower. Many rooms have terraces with seating and even umbrellas. There is turn down service, complete with Swiss chocolate, each evening. Laundry service is available for a very reasonable fee.

The hotel offers half board and the food is superb. Substitutions for those with food allergies or dietary preferences are handled graciously. The front garden has plenty of comfortable seating to enjoy views of the Matterhorn while you have a drink from the well-stocked bar. The decor is distinctly Swiss and charmingly old-school.

A rescheduled hiking trip in the Bettmeralp region led us to this most dear and charming small family owned hotel. tucked in on a hillside near the village with stunning Swiss Alp views!
The epitomy of a Swiss"Heidi" chalet and walking distance to a quaint mountain village is all what one imagines when visiting the majestic Swiss Alps.
The accommodations were superb, clean and incredibly tastefully decorated with family pictures and all things Swiss dotted in each room. Our room was the Cedar Room with that wonderful aroma, gorgeous mountain views and small balcony to ponder the beauty before you..
The cozy living room with the fire lit every evening was peaceful and warming as we sat around and discussed our day. The dining room comfortably sat our group and more, again with beautiful beckoning views.
The owners were such gracious and kind hosts, very present and delighted in making our stay the best best it could possibly be even with this large group.
The resident chef cooked up never ending scrumptious meals so it was hard to go anywhere else especially after a full day out of hiking and sightseeing.
We were in our glory and loved this setting for a perfect Swiss Alpine experience. Whether it be hiking, walking, skiing or just plain hanging with a book this is the place to be and be well pampered all the while taking in the incredible beauty everywhere you turn..
The mountain village of Bettmeralp can be reached by train and then cable car up.
There are delightfully no cars here as is common for some of these mountain villages. So get on the walking shoes for this adventure as you will love every minute and more....
Definitely one for the memory books and a hotel to die for!

This charming family operated hotel is a hidden gem. The hotel has the feel of a large welcoming home, with beautifully decorated cozy indoor and outdoor public spaces for relaxing or visiting with friends. The guest rooms are spotless, spacious and well appointed, many with fabulous views of the Matterhorn and the valley. The staff is incredibly welcoming and accommodating, and the food is absolutely fabulous. I stayed 5 nights and all the meals were spectacular. I hope I have the opportunity to return to enjoy the ambience and beauty of this space in the future.

After visiting this summer, we decided to spend a weekend here in January 2021. Just what we needed: after a long train trip, a warm and smiley welcome, a short visit to our room - Top of Waldhaus, the duplex suite full of warmth and personal details, with many hidden corners in which to unwind, and a huge bathroom with a modern but alpine design - and a relaxed dinner. Food was delicious and cooked with care, plenty of vegan options for my husband and other local dishes for me to choose from. Staff looked well after us and nothing was missing, on the contrary they went the extra mile to make us feel home. Generous breakfast buffet and space for all with socially distanced tables. We will definetly be back again!

The location is perfect as it is close to the gondola, we were welcomed well by the family running the hotel who was very helpful and both rooms were large and cute. No noise at all overnight.
Food was very good, breakfast absolutely awesome.
The first day the weather was bad so we stayed at the hotel more than we expected, but it was in no way a problem as we enjoyed the seating room and got to play games while having tea in front of the fire (there are also tons of books everywhere in many languages). Comfortable, just like at home! I will be back for sure.

From our arrival we were looked after attentively, but not instrusively. The girl at the reception gave us a very warm welcome and noted that one of the guests was vegan, which is one of the reasons why we chose the hotel. In the room we found complementary vegan cereal bars and cookies for the turndown, which was a very nice touch. The half board menu as well as the a la carte menu offer plenty of vegan options, but also other dishes cooked and served with heart and passion. The wine list is extensive and mainly local, many products made in Switzerland are available throughout the hotel. We finished with a drink at the bar and were attended by smiley and caring staff. We had the basic room which also comes with a balcony, clean and plenty of room for us, and the smell of wood. Breakfast has everything you could wish for, including vegan pancakes. We were also offered a late check out, which unfortunately we could not use as we had to travel back home. We will definetly visit again, thank you!!

Charming hotel with fabulous view from our balcony. The family run business is so accommodating and friendly. From our baggage pick up from the tram station to the turn down service with a chocolate at night, Hotel Waldhaus is a must stay if you are planning a trip to Switzerland. Would definitely go back again!

The owners and staff were most kind and accommodating, helping out above and beyond what a guest could expect. And the meals I had there for a full week were superb. What a great chef they have! I appreciated the variety of fresh and delicious vegetarian options and their beautiful presentations. Our room was comfortable, had everything we needed and hoped for, including a marvelous view. It was a highlight of our trip to Switzerland and I would love to stay there again.
