We stayed here en famille over the Easter weekend to celebrate a birthday and were very happy.
Our rooms were in the roof, up 4 flights of steep stairs, past all the historical exhibits of the hotel’s past.
The shared toilet and shower were just across the hall, but the shower has a slanted ceiling, just like the bedrooms. The bedrooms have their own sinks and mirrors.
The dormer windows were missing the shutters from the outside, so we only had a net curtain to block out the outside light, until we hung our towels over the windows to darken the room to sleep.
The restaurant is certainly worth the trip itself;
there is apparently a 4 course dinner menu available to hotel guests that costs only 45.- per person, but you have to reserve this in advance of your stay, which we neglected to do, but the menu and quality of food served was very good.
If you drink tea for breakfast, take your own unless you like it pale and watery.
Good breakfast buffet selection.

Discovered this jewel through our friends. Stayed overnight and right from our arrival we enjoyed Esther, Laurent and their staff's hospitality and sense of making us feel at home. The room, the food and selection of wine made our stay memorable. Would recommend to all, visit them once and sure you would go back again, we will !!! Thank you for everything and see you soon.

This was third time for me in the hotel, but first time during winter. We booked late and got the only room left, which is without a view (exactly as "warned") on top of the restaurant, but the room was perfect for us. The gourmet dinner is as always a treat. We got good advice about walking in the snow and had a perfect stay. We will come back. Claus Christensen

Lovely stay at the end of January. It’s a beautiful quiet location. Service was so friendly and welcoming. We stayed in a beautiful room which looked like it had been recently refurbished. The bed was so comfortable we didn’t want to get out of it. We ate in the attached restaurant where we thought the food was exceptional. Breakfast was also extensive and very tasty. All in all, a great visit and we had a very enjoyable day skiing around Wiler the following day.

Being a huge fan of festivals and celebrations, I read about the Tschäggättä (you will probably have to Google that!), and knew I had to go. I knew nothing about the area, but I did see the "parade" traveled from Wiler to Blatten. Looking at a map, the Hotel Nest und Bietschhorn fell halfway between those two towns. I decided to reserve there.

It was a fortuitous choice. The hotel itself is based in a more-than-a-century-old building, with a fully modern, comfortable interior. I has a room of the second floor, facing the front; I was told it was the largest room in the building. It was huge, and had a beautiful view out front and across the snow-covered valley. It is a family-owned and run property, and those owners went out of their way to be helpful and provide suggestions to a first-timer there.

That's not to say it was perfect: the wi-fi gave me a strong signal when I sat on the sofa on one side of my room, while I could get no signal at all when I was sitting on my bed (yes, the room was that big!); and the smallish bathroom had dispenser bottles, rather than separate toiletries, for some items.

But all of this pales in light of the excellence of the overall visit. I cannot praise this hotel enough; it was , simply, exceptional. I highly recommend it.

We loved our stay in this wonderful hotel in the picture perfect location!
From the first welcome the hospitality of the owners and the staff was outstanding.
Our room was spacious, spotless clean and we loved the modern rustic style. The bathroom had a fabulous rainshower.
We had booked the halfboard, incredible value and amazing food.
The breakfast was delicious as well.

Highly recommended for multiple reasons: idealls located at half length of the valley, great view of the Kleine Nest and Bietschorn mountains, homy feeling, historic place preserving heritage items of late '800 hospitality and maunteneering, superb restaurant.
I have rarely experienced mountain with the added pleasure of a hotel that is fully part of local history. Also, the high quality of the restaurant made us look forward to the evening propositions of the chef.
This is a historic, fresh, 2 stars hotel at the level of several swiss 3 stars competitors. The restaurant is a class on its own and is worth a dedicated trip.
Service was kind and attentive. Breakfast was fully satsfactory. A plus is the possibility to have nice packet lunches delivered in the morning for a modest price.
A place I'll never forget and am looking forward to go back to.

Nestling in one of the most remote and beautiful valleys in Switzerland - and surrounded by a selection of the finest peaks - is this delightful little hotel that was built in 1868 for the rapidly growing sport of mountain climbing. In its early days, this hotel had no less than 25 mountain guides working for it to take its customers to the summit of their choice. Many famous names from the world of Victorian Alpinism are inscribed in the hotel's guestbook which dates from its inception: W.A.B.Coolidge, Sir Leslie Stephen, Lord Conway.

Today, meticulously run by Esther and Laurent, this hotel sets standards for comfort, friendliness and welcome that only a top class family-run business can hope to aspire to. The rooms are warm, comfortable and with lovely views either up the valley to the snow-clad Loetschenlucke, or across to majestic Bietschhorn, the Queen of the Loetschental, which towers above the hotel (a seven-hour climb in good conditions and longer if the snow is tricky). In summer, breakfast on the terrace is a delight with morning sun falling on the geraniums and casting shadows on the gaunt, spiky peaks lower down the valley above Ferden. Much of the character of the rooms comes from the fact that the furniture is of solid local craftsmanship made from native wood and appears original to the establishment: but it has been brought up to modern standards with the addition of modern mattresses etc. The beds and pillows are the most comfortable I know and this, combined with the mountain air and the silence that is broken only by the faint rushing of the nearby river Lonza, guarantees excellent sleep.

Laurent's cooking is quite exceptional. The menu might loosely be described as a blend of absolutely top quality French cuisine with traditional Swiss dishes such as Roesti, Raclette, Walliserteller. But there is more to it than that. Laurent has a keen eye for top quality local produce - cheeses, dried meats, vegetables- and a talent for integrating it into his repertoire to create the delicious and innovative dishes with regional overtones that give his menu its very original character. (For example, don't forget to try the Loetschentaler Lauchtorte). The staff are warm, friendly and very knowledgable, be it about skiing, local customs, advice on excursions or guiding the guests through the substantial and varied wine-list and advising on what to choose with different dishes. Many of the wines are top-quality locally-grown produce from the Rhone Valley between Brig and Sion.

Attention to detail is everything in this hotel and nothing is ever too much trouble. Truly the pinnacle of Swiss hospitality.
