We stayed two nights at this hotel. For the price of the rooms i was a little dissapointed. It was perfectly clean and comfortably but just a little dated. However the sevice really made up for this feeling. The breakfast was v.good and the staff were so helpful and polite! I find this rare in Switzerland to find. Dinner is also recommended here. The restaurant was full (with locals too) and we had a good meal.

We recently spent 6 nights at the Hotel Cristal in Grimentz. We found the entire staff to be very friendly whether the conversation was in French or in English. The location in great, especially since you can ski almost to the hotel at the end of the day from either Grimentz or Zinal. The ski room was adequate but a bit cramped when the hotel was full. Also, it would have been nice to have boot warmers in the ski room.

All is all, I would recommend this hotel to couples or families.

Our holiday was enjoyed by all mainly down to the hotel being so nice and in such a great Location. The hotel has recently been refurbished to a very high standard could not fault the acomadation and the atmosphere. We had an excellent size room with fantastic views over the mountains.

The restaurant and bar staff are very friendly and the service was always to a very high standard. We had a range of options available to us on the menu and a very competitive Table Dote Menu each night.

The hotel has a lovely seating area off the reception which has an open log fire, leather sofas, TV and music options and is the perfect place to wind down after a long days skiing.

We arranged a transfer with the hotel from the airport which made our trip so much easier. The last thing I wanted to do for our group was have to hire a few cars for them to be left outside the hotel and not being used during our stay. We got picked up by the driver in the airport arrivals in Geneva, we were helped with our bags and then led to a very nice minibus for our transfer.

From the hotel ski room in the morning we walk down the street less than 5 minutes and we are at the gondola. Once up on the Piste there is a great range of skiing for all ages and levels. We had a mixed party and the beginners found it a great place to learn and develop there skiing whilst the more experienced skiiers were raving about runs such as the black Lona Run and the small blue track that makes it possible to ski down from the top of the mountain right down to by the Hotel Cristal.

There are also other areas to ski on a day out we used the hotel minibus shuttle service to go to St Luc for the day where you can also ski to Chandolin. This service was great as the minibus seats all of us and has a ski rack to take all of our equipment much better than catching the local buses.

Everyone really enjoyed the holiday and we are arranging another trip to Grimentz and the Hotel Cristal very soon.

We spent a weekend in Grimentz to enjoy the ski resort.

The Cristal hotel was good, but nothing breathtaking to reveal. Standard rooms, clean and traditionally furnished.

Breakfast was included, with bread and cheese offered. No local speciality to point out.

We enjoyed the free parking and the complimentary ski room offered directly at the cable car station (5mn walk).

A bit too expensive in my opinion for such facilities, but still a fair plan in Grimentz.

We stayed in this hotel for a week. Although we paid all expenses upfront, the lady of the hotel still tried to get extra payment from us stating she made a fault in the booking, which of course for us wats not verifyable at the moment. In the e-mailconrrespondance on booking it was even confirmed all payments were correctly received. After making a statement on this she became unpleasant and kept nagging and insulting us, in front of other gueasts in the lobby. Very unpleasant. The hotel itself is rather simple and outdated: worn beds, cupboards, pillows, curtains, etc. International TV chanels advertised were not available. Also storage space is lacking. Rooms were quite noisy (TV of adjecent room was very prominent) and our room suffered from smell from the restaurant kitchen as well as noise. Free WIFI not always working properly. Cleaning was poor: a lot of dust on woodwork, even on the bed's woodwork. temperature all over the hotel (rooms, restaurant) is extreme and can only partly be adjusted. We were glad we only booked B&B, since dinner in the restaurant was limited, as was the breakfast buffet. Dinner was no value for maney, while elsewhere in town his was the case. The breakfast differed depending on who was on service that day, e.g. only one cup of coffee some mornings, watery orange juice, etc. Ít's still some walk to the cable car for skiing (way over the advertised 200m, especially when counting all the stairs until you're there) but most of it is flat. We will not return to this hotel. The hotel Alpina in town is from the same owner. We had lunch there and experience was similar: unfriendly personnel and no value for money.

This hotel lies at the end of road adjacent to a car park but noise it not a problem. We went to the hotel during the ski season and the hotel is about a 5 minute walk from the ski gondola. However there are 3 sets of steps up to the gondola (no lift available). The hotel hasa boot room and it is possible to ski back to the hotel via the tobbogan run. It is also possible to rent a ski locker at the ski lift (buy from the ticket office at the ski lift - 34 Swiss Francs per locker plus 20F deposit per week (fits 2 sets of skis and boots) - best to buy immediately on arrival as lockers were in short supply)

There is a restaurant at the hotel but is not run by the hotel. You can pay half board to the hotel (this is cheaper than buying meals separately) but you also need to pay for any drinks or a la carte meals at extra cost directly to the restuarant each night. Generally there is a choice of meals but some nights the HB option has one meal choice only.

Food was a bit limited for our family as main courses are generally meat plus some form of potatoe dish and virtually no other vegetables (but we have found this to be common in European hotels). Also note that grilled meat is cooked very rare so ask to be cooked well done if this is your preference.

WIne list was limited but local wines were good.

Although this is a hotel there is no separate lounge and bar other than a small seating area close to reception.

The hotel will arrange a taxi transfer to the local rail station or Sion Airport (approx 40 mins drive) but cost is approx 140 Swiss Francs each way. During the ski season the hotel will provide transport to either the St Luc or Zinal ski area once during a weeks stay free of charge. It is possible but not very easy to get to St Luc via the local post bus service but a service does run to Zinal.

The bedrooms are clean and well presented but we found the beds could be slightly more comfortable. As said previously noise was not a problem (in the winter at least) although our room was at the front of the hotel.

The reception staff were friendly and welcoming and spoke English.

Notes on Grimmentz
In general terms this is very traditional Swiss village with a lovely street with old wooden buidlings but there is no real centre to the village other than the ski lift and a shop and hotel. Most accommodaton is either chalets on the mountain side or apartments but again in a traditional style. Night life is very quiet but there is small crepery in the old part of the village. There is also a good Italian restuarant next to the ski lift and would recommend you to book a table during peak periods.

There is a swimming pool located near the gondola and is nice without getting busy.

As far as skiing is concerned this is small ski area compared to most other resorts but views are good and the lower runs run through the forest on the mountain. There is a mix of blue, red and black runs with some off piste skiing available. Proficient skiers may find this too limiting but good beginners and intermediates would enjoy the area. Note that the runs are not numbered and runs are named on the lifts they end up at which isn't very helpful until you know the names of the lifts. It was dissapointing that there are still quite anumber of button and T-bar lifts and took a while to wait and get to the top of the mountain. This may be deliberate policy to reduce the number of skiers visiting the ski area. There is one 4, one 2, and one 6 chair lift. The last run down to the village is quite difficult and gets very icy at the end of the day but beginners can use the tobbagon run to get down virtually all the way to the base of the gondolar lift or continue down to the road where this hotel sits.

There is self service restuarant at the top of the gondola (which gets busy during peak periods) and it is possible to reserve a table where a table service is provided (4Sf per person). Another restuarant is located between here and the peak of the mountain (only accessibel by ski) and another much smaller bar on another ski run. There are no restuarants or bars at the mountain summit which is a shame as the views are marvellous.

As with all restuarants in Grimmentz food is not cheap and a very basic lunch could set you back 80-90 SFr for 2 adults and 2 children.

An alternative is to make your own lunch using the Co-op located between the hotel and ski lift.

As said previously we used Sion Airport using Snowjet who fly from Stansted. Planes are 80 seats and our flight wasn't full and we went straight through check in at both Stansted and Sion.

Hotel Cristal is a wonderful hotel which is very clean and extremely classy. The hotel has a very professional and happy staff who make you feel very welcome and important from the time you arrive until the time you leave. The views from the room are breathtaking with snow capped mountains in every direction. The food is prepared by a professional French chef who takes pride in every dish he makes and the Swiss wine is the best I have ever drank. Parking is never a problem. The really old historical part of Grimentz is only a walk away and has several gift shops etc. There is a lot to do such as skiing and sledging. Had a great time! Will take my whole family back next year!!

The hotel is conveniently located at the outside of the village, only a 200 m walk to the two cable car lifts and the center of the village.
A charming and clean three star hotel. Reception by the owner/manager is very friendly. The superior room with small balcony is clean with all amenities, including a minibar, but also free coffee and tea. A small bathroom but nice and efficient use of the space. The double bed is ok, the mattrasses should have been a bit thicker. The feeling is a bit too soft. The dining room is not the most romantic one, but dinner is great. We had a beautifully prepared green salad as a starter, great presentation. Followed by delicious main dishes, chicken tandoori and meat balls with vegetables and boiled potatoes. The coffee gourmand was nice, though the gourmand dessert part was almost too generous.
The wine list is very modest, only local wines. We ordered a petite arvine from Sierre which was simply a very very good white wine. Prices were quite all right, not very expensive (this being Switzerland).
The breakfast buffet is outstanding with lots of choices.
There is also a nice small lounge area with open fire.
Simply a nice stay in a beautiful village with great slopes for skiing.

Stayed here one night recently while hiking the Haut Route. This is a well-run, very friendly place. The staff could not have been more courteous and welcoming. The meals were very good and so was the service. Thanks
