Just wanted to say what a fabulous experience again! I have stayed at the hotel numerous times and this time was for a light lunch with the family. I was not disappointed, everything was lovely:- good portions, friendly staff! I will be back here hopefully for a stay in the hotel! Thanks again for another superb experience!

My wife and I decided to call in for coffee and scones. As I am disabled, we wanted disabled parking and couldn't find any, however as we were driving out of the parking area my wife spotted a blue sign which on closer inspection was for disabled parking in a small courtyard - success! Better signage would be a help....

Lovely hotel only about a 30 minute drive from the A1/Newcastle area. Lovely room and surroundings. We had lunch in the golf club which was very nice and slightly less formal than the hotel. Spa/swimming pool is very well maintained and the dinner we had in The Library restaurant was exceptional quality. We stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast...

Matfen Hall is an hotel I'd have no hesitation in recommending to anyone looking for a very good quality break in beautiful countryside. This is the third time my wife and I have stayed here, meeting up with friends who have travelled down from Scotland. Every time has been excellent. The staff are all brilliant and make every effort to...

Take care if you expect to have a relaxing pampered time. This was not my experience. Unpleasant time in the pool, disruptive family and private Aquavit which limited time in the pool. Lunch in the conservatory was spoilt by noisy guests in the adjacent bar. The staff made no attempt to deal with very noisy aggressive swimmers. Lunch was very...

Fantastic food in the library restaurant, only stayed a few days would have loved to stay a lot longer and will definitely go back. Something for everyone, short...

Matfen Hall was a pleasant surprise I found through secret escapes. Never been before until April this year, have already been back and will do again. Great accommodation where we could also take Kona our pet Labrador, very good restaurant, fantastic golf course and spa. Adjacent is the small village of Matfen with lovely little pub called 'The Black Bull'.

Great hotel with a fantastic Spa facility. The building is spectacular and is very popular for weddings as the great hall is something else dating back to the 17th century . the rooms are well maintained and are very comfortable . Breakfast was great and the staff very helpful ,the only negative is that the only mobile phone network that can...
