We were looking forward to celebrating a special birthday with a late Sunday lunch, although a table had been reserved it did not appear in their bookings, the restaurant was full but they kindly found us a table. The back room has such great potential but lacks atmosphere because some light bulbs don't work, pictures are wonky, there are some... More

An ancient walled town with a ruined castle and abbey, lovely riverside walk and great food in a dog friendly atmosphere. No it's not in France it's here in Norfolk. My starter was seared scallops on black pudding in a sea of spicy pea purée.10 out of 10 without exaggeration. My wife had smoked salmon with soy egg yolks and salad garnish.Another rare... More

Dinner in the pub was excellent - quality of food and drinks is superb, and having a big table on which to play Beatrix Potter dominoes added to the family fun. The bedrooms were less excellent, being in the next-door annex and not across the courtyard from the pub itself - our double was billed as 'luxury' and although the... More

We had a lovely meal at the Ostrich on Saturday evening with friends, the food was delicious and the service was very good, the restaurant area can feel a bit cold as they have to keep opening the doors to go across to the kitchen area. We will return though, as its very nice there.

There are many old pubs in the UK but The Ostrich in the lovely Norfolk village of Castle Acre, overlooking the green and close to the ancient Priory, is somewhat unique. The building is full of character retaining many of its original features. The quality of the food and drink is almost incidental to the overall ambiance of the pub.... More

The pub was extremely busy when we arrived but having booked for lunch as well as for a bed we were seated quickly. Food was lovely and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. It was a Sunday and they stop serving at 3.00 p.m on Sunday so be warned if you are arriving later. Accomodation was wonderful. A very spacious... More

We would visit again . I think though if you are asking a premium price for a burger you need to get the chips right too . Possibly the best burger I've had but chunky(could that be the problem) chips undercooked .

I really enjoy going to this pub. Have been a lot. Lovely inside, good food and I love the fact that it is dog friendly which is always nice. Yesterday we sat in the garden for the first time and I thought it really let the pub down. It's great that they have a garden but it is so unloved.... More

Dinner was very good. The menu was varied and we all enjoyed our meals. Unfortunately, that was a bit marred by the sheer amount of bugs flying around our table the whole night. At least three large black flies and several small gnat-like insects were constantly swarming around our heads. The first part of the evening was spent shooing them... More
