Full of homely character, typically Norwegian place to stay. Rooms are basic and there's not a ton of space in it, but all you need is there. Breakfast was varied and plentiful. This place you go to to taste some Norwegian culture.

This hotel on a high mountain pasture outside of Lom is a treasure of folk art. Every door and wall is adorned with Rosemaling folk art motifs and painting. Carved pieces, trunks and traditional furniture fill every nook and cranny. There are many reception rooms and places to sit and explore. A gushing stream and some Norwegian sheep nearby as...

We stayed here in August. After the long drive from Oslo, it was wonderful to arrive at this mountain haven - Bavarian in feel, with a lovely bar, great atmosphere, and a collection of interesting objects, reflective of mountain life, around the place. Apparently it closes in the winter as the road to it is inaccessible. We stayed in one...

Had a wonderful stay with the family while on vacation. We loved the historic building and the artwork in the lobby. The dinner and breakfast were tasty and you can't beat the view of the tallest mountain in Norway! The rooms are small and minimalist so the kids had to have a separate room. But the spacious lobby and beautiful...

This place is stacked with artworks of all kinds, from famous Tidemann paintings to the 32 m tall Sagasøylen carved in stone. The service was beyond expectations, and the room was clean and nice. The rooms are old fashioned, and gives an authentic Norwegian cabin experience.

Remarkable old traditional building style, with a number of extraordinary historic paintings of the most famous Norwegian artists. You walk around, admiring some of the most spectacular landscape paintings of Norwegian scenary. Beautifully situated in the majestic Bøverdalen valley.

The hotel is picturesque with public areas that feel a museum and are great for lounging. There is free coffee/tea by the bar. The rooms are small and basic. The hotel is frequented by largest our groups that might trample you if you get in their way.

This is a charming place. Guestrooms are spread across a series of outbuildings with a central building housing reception, restaurant and lovely rooms with antique furniture that are a museum in themselves. The rooms are fairly rustic and there’s nothing wrong with that in a place like this, but the bathrooms are out of a horror story, their total renovation...

We dropped in for lunch on our way to the national park. Menu is small, but quality was great. Guests are seated at tables placed at various places throughout an historic mansion filled with fascinating artwork, so you can wander around and amuse yourself while your food is being prepared. The food was excellent when it arrived, including the best...

Very old hotel, worth a visit just to see it. The hotel itself is OK for a short stay, rooms are basic but in line with the style of this hotel. Lunch was good, breakfast a bit less. They receive lost of guests in buses so it is crowed at breakfast.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Elveseter is an old farm situated in Boverdalen valley in the municipality of Lom. The Elveseter farm was typical for the area, both in size and how it was run. However, more than a story about a typical Norwegian farm, the story about Elveseter is the story about a family of gifted craftsmen of Norwegian folk art and pioneers in the hotel and leisure industry both, who dared to think differently and succeed. Today, Inger and Rungne Elveseter is the hostess and host at Elveseter. The family was always avid collectors of fine art, paintings by the great Norwegian Masters, and wooden objects by the Norwegian Masters of folk art from the eighteenth century, most notably two cabinets by "Skjak Ola", which are proudly on display at Elveseter today. At Elveseter, we can offer a break from your everyday life, where art, culture and good food are the main ingredients comprising your stay with us. ... more   less
