We were blown away by the hospitality, food, accommodation, everything here. It was 2 days of bliss as we were pampered by the attentive but unobtrusive staff. The baths were clean and maintained well. The food was incredible and way more than could possibly be eaten (though we tried) of the "Kaiseki Ryori" type. The price seemed much more reasonable...

The hotel is excellent. The staff goes over the top to make the visit pleasant and smooth. And the food is simply amazing. The diner was an eleven course, Japanese style of course. And the one better than the other. The breakfast was awesome. Another chapter is the bathing experience. Please come and check it yourself. You won't regrets the...

Helpful and friendly the staff from checkin, through dinner, breakfast and check out. Cannot say thank you enough for how special they made us feel. Rooms (not an expert on Japanese ryokan) nicely set out with loads of space. Food amazing if you stay for the dinners and the breakfasts both Japanese and western. Highly recommended as a place to...

The hosts of this property are trying hard with explaining all things Japanese when staying at this ryokan. Particularly impressive was the daily menu written in English as eating a multi course dinner at a ryokan is a feature of the stay. Choose the Japanese selection for both dinner and breakfast for a treat of local produce. There are many...

We spent two nights at the Ryokan in October 2016 travelling with our two children (aged 6 and 4). We were given such a warm welcome by the incredibly kind staff, and had the chance to experience dipping in the onsen baths and eating some amazing, traditional Japanese food (which was a multi-course event!) whilst dressed in the yukata gowns...

We stayed two nights in the Kasumi room with private outdoor bath. The room is very spare, but the staff go above and beyond to serve you. The 9 course dinner will test your adventureness when it comes to dining. I found the place to be a little worn down and shabby. Carpet and walls did not look very clean....

I have no idea if it is "Authentic" Ryokan, as I have no idea what an "Authentic" Ryokan is. But we certainly enjoyed our stay here, and would recommend it, within limits. It is old style: one sleeps on futons on Tatami mats instead of a bed, there are no bath/shower in the room, you can "shower" by the Onsens....

This hotel (Kokuya)is bad hotel in yutanaka hot spring. Room is very narrow and no lift. Room charge is too high, Bad meal and bad service. No shop around hotel. We are from Taiwan with 3 families. I advice that you had better not stay this bad hotel.

This was the last stop on my partner's and my trip around Japan. We had backpacked the whole way and arrive absolutely exhausted, but we left rejuvenated and prepared for the long trip home. The staff here is polite, very kind and many speak English very well (though I suggest knowing some Japanese anytime you travel anywhere in Japan, it...

We stayed in Kokuya Ryokan for 2 nights. I believe it was the experience of authentic Japanese life style including polite and helpful staff. Food were served twice around 8 am and 8 pm. How the food was cooked, presented and served was highly educative, enjoyable and tasty. We had a room with a private Onsen, which was the purpose...
