Affordable traditional onsen ryokan that's not too touristy (most of the guests looked Japanese). Quite convenient - a 5 - 10 min walk from/to Sounkyo Visitor Centre and bus terminal. The room was comfortable and had all the necessary facilities.. We had to make up our own futon bedding, though that was quite an interesting experience too. There was an...

We came here by renting a car from Sapporo. It took around 2 hours drive from there. Getting here by bus is a bit complicated. The hotel is room I have is a Japanese style futon and you have to make your own bed. The toilet is incredibly small compare to other hotels we stayed in the trip. There is...

3 1/2 stars, maybe 4 because of the good dinner and breakfast. The room we stayed was a traditional room, it was clean but nothing special. We had to prepare our futons and the bathroom is very small. Well, you can bath in the onsen. We had to pay to rent the yukata for our 2 year-old daughter, it was...

Our visit to Sounkyo was very disappointing to say the least. It was raining when we arrived, the cable car is not running due to bad weather, the foliage season has just past and the whole village was like a dead town. The hotel itself was quite old and worn but they do try to keep it clean. The onsen...

3-1/2 stars. We enjoyed our two nights mid-summer stay at Yumoto Ginsenkaku (YG) in Sounkyo Onsen. The property is centrally located. The hotel was clean, and the Japanese-style room comfortable. Having a corner room was nice, because fresh air circulated between the open windows on the two walls. The included meals (dinner and breakfast) in the dining room were generous,...

We asked the receptionist of previous hotel to call them in the morining to ask for late checkin and dinner and they said we must arrive by 7.30 pm. However, we saw a Japanese couple checkin at 8.30 pm and started dinner at 8.30 pm. When we were at the dinning room, only one couple were Japanese, all other tables...

We are a couple of tourists " do it yourself" who ventured to Sounkyo in a period of high season, the hotel on the Internet were all full , so after some research we came across this ryokan and we loved it . We were the only foreign guests in a totally Japanese reality ! The property is located in...

This was a good ryokan at the bottom of the ropeway. Our room was reasonably big and the bathroom war your typical Japanese cubical. My 6"3 husband was able to fit in the shower which is not always the case in Japan. Pillows were completely stuffed with beans though which I just couldn't get used to. The ryokan has 2...
