Midway stop when driving across Hokkaido. Public baths were enjoyable, especially the wide panoramic view of natural surroundings & mountains, although the Showa-era type with arched windows of beveled glass was rather soothing. Our meal plan was CRAB in our room- some sashimi, a whole kegani crab/person, crab in the hotpot, and a cream crab dish. When in Hokkaido, must eat crab. At leisure...

Really nothing to do in this ski area, other than the ropeway. If there is an evening performance go see it (even if you don't understand Japanese) it was fun and you can see the Ainu clothing (might be cancelled because of Covid19). Also, the gift shop has some seldom found items. Walk around and enjoy the artifacts and stuffed bears.

The hotel is really foreigner unfriendly.
The lobby, even the room has a smell the moment you walk in.
Staff at the breakfast hall was rude. Overall, the stay at this hotel was a sore disappointment. The only saving grace were the mountain views.

This is our first stop during our 1-week Family Road Trip.

Hotel Taisetsu has 3 public onsen baths, multiple restaurants, and a very comprehensive gift shop. According to my brother who stayed here before this trip, some rooms in the older wing (there are 3 buildings in this hotel) are pretty out of date but the rooms we reserved this time were all newly renovated. Our rooms were all facing the mountain/river with authentic interior but modern beds. It was a great start of the trip :) In terms of day-time activity, we only went to Kurodake Ropeway (cable cart). The rest of our stay, we simply stayed in and chilled!

P/S If you're driving here, I'd recommend getting here during the day rather than the night since the streets weren't as easy to navigate in the dark.

We came here intending to climb the mountain. Very hospitable staff. My request for high floor with views was honoured. Good room size and 3 Onsen to choose from. Excellent buffet dinner and breakfast. Good price too.

During my trip, I stayed at more than 10 hotel with onzen/bath house.
Taisetsu hotel is the worst. The food buffet did not reach the standard.
We barely eat dinner and breakfast because we could not believe the food is this bad (cold and nowhere near 'good taste').
The room was typical, nothing special but located far away from the dining hall.
The onzen wasn't all that, there are onzen with far better views.
I felt that it is very disappointing...
Don't waste your money and time here, choose other hotel, sincerely

Came across this lovely onsen hotel while driving through Sōunkyō, and decided to check if a room was available. While ordinary looking outside, it was a pleasant find indeed. We stayed in a newly-renovated room on the fifth floor - it was spacious, clean, and comfortable. There were some tidbits provided too. For 26,000 yen for 2 person, it comprised a night's accommodation with buffet dinner and breakfast.

There was a cultural performance where guests were invited to reenact the comic scene saw earlier. The guest was sporty and invited lots of laughter from the audience.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel for travellers passing by Sōunkyō.

Crowded hotel with hoards of tourists. Stayed in room 2601 with private bath. Small room and dated decor. Wonder how the previous reviewers deemed as luxury experience..really below par. Stale air and musky smell throughout unless you move to main hall which is cooler. Massage chair is a joke only half body and must be for dwarfs. Tiny bathroom with super weak shower pressure. Tried the ramen cafe but was disappointing. Suggest to turn left take the kurodake cable car and there's a nice place serving good simple ramen, gyoza and curry rice with good scenery. Hot spring supposed to be simple sulfuric but very weak colorless. Weekdays there's ainu performance and push carts selling crafts. Big shopping centre inside hotel selling tax free cosmetics and souvenirs. Takes a long time to change the temperature. Small lifts and long wait unless you squeeze with the other tourists. Will not return.

This hotel got decent review so we decided to go there. We booked Japanese style room and found out that room was a bit old and did not look clean. There're some bugs which we didn't know which kind walking around. We stayed there for two nights. When we came back from the tour the second day we found our room not cleaned. They left everything untouched. We were so surprised that when we left the ladies were coming in to clean. When I complained to front desk they sent a guy to help cleaning..poor guy. To me this error is unacceptable. I felt very unhygiene. I insisted him to vacuum the floor since we had to sleep on the floor. Other than that, onsen is okay, food is okay even though both days buffet food almost the same.

The web page certainly had lovely pictures but utterly deceptive. Set in truly exceptional natural beauty of the Daisetsuzen National Park, the hotel was really tired in maintenance and its service staff well below the normal high Japanese standards. Lots of Asian tour groups and segregated dining areas - we were allocated what I'd call a large conference room with make shift dining tables - zero ambience and the buffet was a huge let down. The onsen were okay but again dont believe the idyllic pictures in the web page. Will definite stay elsewhere.

I love the breakfast and dinner buffet, and how they have small segregated plates so the food don't mix with each other (great for photo op too). I love that there's a shuttle bus from Asahikawa and a more frequent one going to the ice festival. I especially love the helpful staff and appreciate those who can speak english. Of course, the highlight and what I love the most are our private bath with the mountain (and ice festival) view, and the outdoor bath.

It’s now available the shittle bus departing Asahikawa station to the hotel. No charged. It’s free. At the Asahikawa station, you should proceed to the AEON shopping mall and will find a small bus stop. Every day it departs on 2:00 PM.

I can't remember if they have it in the room, even if they don't have one in the room, I'm sure you could request one from housekeeping.
