Belum Eco Resort (BER) is the only private island resort in Lake Temenggor with pristine scenic environment offers guest a unique place to experience the 130-million year old rainforest of Belum-Temenggor forest reserved. It is the only resort far away from Banding island where noise and air pollution from the East West highway is most disturbing. Due to our strategic location our guests enjoyed the best opportunity to spot wildlife, birds and insects in its natural habitat plus the ever surprising magical sun rise and sun set scenery that occurs from time to time. BER offers guest excellent swimming, fishing and canoeing activities in the pristine environment.

Our group of 13 with nowhere to go except to local destinations decided to take the 3 days 2 nights package @ Myr 500 per pax offer. On the 8 Sept 20, we were at the jetty waiting to be transported to Kong Island without any expectations. Realistically we did not expect much from the price we paid.

3 days later it was time to leave and what we experienced were worth more than Myr 500 p/pax. Clean chalets with scenic balcony, daily breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner, daily conducted boat excursions, free usage of OK room and kayaks for the more adventurous. The staff were superb, friendly and accommodating. To Steve Kong, Steven, Borhan and the orang asli boatmen, thank you for a totally unexpected experience.

Hope to see you guys again.

It’s hard to sum up the feeling of staying here. The property is beautiful, lush with plants, the cottages are so cozy, and with their own balconies and semi outdoor showers. The lake water was freshwater and warm for swimming. The hosts Steve and his wife were wonderful. The food was plentiful and delicious, many local dishes. The kids loved afternoon tea and cakes. But best of all was going on safari each day by boat and/or hike. Our guide Borhan was so knowledgeable and friendly and accommodating and took us to many different parts of the lake. We saw 2 packs of wild boars, hornbill birds, a monitor lizard, otters, a large fowl I can’t remover the name of, and a monkey. We saw all the signs of elephants, the dung, footprints, the mud on the trees where they scratch, the saltlick. It was thrilling looking for them and sleeping just knowing they were in the forest somewhere around us. We saw the rafflesia flower in its early stages as it wasn’t near blooming time. We went on the 4 day 3 night Temmengor tour which I recommend. We went by easy and inexpensive coach bus from Butterworth to a jetty where the hosts picked us up. They were very helpful prior to arriving with figuring out transport and helped us get transport back too. This was by taxi which was very convenient and reasonable as the bus back would have required a transfer and much longer. I would highly recommend staying here.

The adventure begins when you step into the speedboat and fasten your life vest. Skimming over the sun-kissed waters of Lake Banding reflecting blue skies and jade green forests, you have an hour to enjoy clean air and watch out for hornbills.

Accomodation
Rooms are well planned and thought through. Loved the outdoor deck with shower and toilet .. far enough from the room for privacy and near enough to be convenient. Sitting on the deck, looking out onto the lake .. watching the fishing and kayakking enthusiasts while drinking coffee or sipping wine makes for a good holiday.

Activities
Our group of 30pax were able to fish, hike, swim and canoe during the day. At night we bonded over two great dinners - steamboat on the first night and bbq on the second.

Thank you Steve and Susan for sharing your dream island with us! Your energy is truly inspiring. It is your warmth, generosity and hospitality which make this place so special. It feels like you are sharing your home with family and friends!

This resort is in a stunning location on a tiny island in the middle of Banding Lake. The accommodation and food is far from luxurious but still good and clean.
We were sent a full itinerary prior to the trip but soon found out this was very loosely followed, there was a lot of sitting around before we started any activities. The boat tours were great though, Bohan was a great guide, looking out for birds and signs of elephants, we even came across tiger cub tracks on one of the treks!

The best part of our trip is the tour guide -- Bohan, who took care of everything, from logistic to accommodation, jungle trekking to chatting/cultural exchange after dinner.
The chalet is nice and cozy, and with ample space to put our stuff and hang our clothes. It was nice to shower in the bathroom which has a window view of the nature. The weather was good so we didn't find going to the detached bathroom annoying or inconvenient. Each chalet has a painting/art piece next to the door, which shows the artistic sense of the owner.
The bamboo lunch box is very unique and sustainable. Each one of us carried our bamboo lunch box to jungle trekking and had our lunch at the waterfall after a refreshing time in the cool water.
The resort is built and run sustainably. It is so good to see tourism operators who have sustainable mindset and don't consume/pollute our jungle for the sake of money.
We saw a blooming rafflesia, several species of eagles, hornbills, heron, lantern bug, centipede, etc. There is so much more to explore and learn from the 130 million years rainforest.

We set off with high expectation of the resort as what more can you ask for when the hotel's tagline says "The only resort with its own island in Belum-Temenggor."

First impression was good, we were greeted by the owners in their own boat. Small boat but adequate.

From a distance, it "wow". But it soon goes downhill from there.

1/ the room is so small. Though clean, the room feels claustrophobia. Only good for sleeping. There is no electricity in the resort during day time. So if you wish to sleep in after 8am, too bad. Gets very hot and stuffy as there's little ventilation due to the room size. You can't leave the doors ajar unless you wish to be a "blood donor" when you sleep.

2/ a very small bathroom is outside the room. So bring a brolly in case it rains and you need to go to the toilet. Luckily it didn't rain when we were there. Floor is slimy and leaves much to be desired.

3/ internet connectivity is extremely bad. But that is a given considering it is somewhere in the jungle. Internet connection only available at the dining area and with limited users and when the owners are around.

4/ food is nice BUT not enough for the number of people there. Meals are buffet style but with very limited portion.

Basically, I wish I didn't book the hotel in the first place.

We (2 adults, 3 Kids) stayed 4 nights at this unique place. Friendly staff, beautiful surroundings and welcoming feeling. The small huts are basic but comfortable with a small terrace with nice views over the lake. There is a big common area where you can hang around, drink tea, play games, look at the forrest and lake, talk and relax. Or go down to the lake to take a swim.
We went on several trips with our good guide Burhan - saw a lot of elephant pooh(!), a group of wild boar, hornbill and many butterflies and other insects.
This place is really made with love to the nature and an invitation to indulge and learn about the forrest.

The Indonesian lady who takes care of the meals in the resort has kept birds in captivity in very very small cages in their boat house which do not have space for the birds to move around, left alone fly. Might as well kill the birds than keeping them alive in such inhuman way. Spoke to the owner, Steve Khong about it but he didn’t care much. Such contrary to what they preach to be an environmental loving resort. Hope anyone who reads this review can educate and pressure the resort to release the birds.

Apart from this, the staff are very friendly and accommodating. The resort is on an island which is surround by lake and rainforests. Very rustic and back to nature.

We really loved our stay at Belum Eco Resort. Especially because of Bohan. What a great man! He is the boat man, tour guide, host and jungle man. He is a little bit shy and insecure about his English language, but that’s not needed. He is fantastic!

The rooms are basic, so don’t expect a luxury stay, but the view over the lake was wonderful. The food was really, really good and we played with the little dogs and had fun with the talking birds at the entrance.

We did kayaking and swimming in the lake in our free time. We did not see elephants, but that’s nature. We loved our time here and really recommended it!

Kind regards, Tom and Loes

Without a doubt, the highlight of my trip to Malaysia.

Booking was straightforward (all through WhatsApp), pick up from the jetty went smoothly, staff are communicative and accommodating.

The location is paradise. It is hard to describe how beautiful and peaceful it is.

Room is clean, no issues with mosquitos/ bugs/ heat/ electricity.

I shall be recommending to all my friends.

Thanks for a unique and memorable experience

Dear Navigator, I believe that this place is safe for children as the proprietor of Belum Eco Resort and staff are responsible people. The activities are rugged but fun at the same time. You need to be careful though especially having young children.Other than that have fun! Cheers!

Hi thank you for your question. The public jetty ( Hentian Royal Belum ) in Pulau Banding is the only jetty every one uses to board boats or houseboats to places of interest in Belum Temengor lake. it is 40KM from grik town. Our island ( Belum Eco-Resort ) is 10 KM south of the lake.
