I stayed here one night with my family on the recommendation of my Japanese tour agent. This is a family run ryokan and it makes one feel welcome upon reaching the premise. We have to take off shoes to enter the ryokan and it feels so much like home! The owner speaks minimal English but he's always present at the...

We stayed here during our recent trip to Japan and it was wonderful. The many onsens were beautiful and romantic. We went in the fall and they give you rubber boots and a winter yukata to trek to the different onsens. The traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast you get was abundant and very interesting for a Canadian. No one spoke...

It is hard to put into words just how amazing an experience Ginkon-yu really was! On a quest to find the perfect hitou ryokan, my girlfriend and I decided to stay two nights during our trip to Hokkaido for the Sapporo snow festival. After seeing the sights and exploring the cities Sapporo and Asahikawa, we were looking to spend our...

“All of the rooms are fine, but there are a few rooms that can provide a view of a small stream that snakes its way around the ryokan. Additionally, note that the cheaper rooms do not have an in-room bathroom. I would like to stress that toilets are close-by as are sinks for brushing your teeth, etc. Lastly, if you are wondering about the meal plans, there is virtually no difference. Save yourself some cash and go with the economical option...you will not be disappointed.”
