Spent 4 days and nights here and loved every second, great hotel in a lovely location with staff that were very friendly and accommodating. Rooms are perfect base for a few days snowboarding with a number of local mountains to choose from you could spend weeks here and not get bored. Food was excellent at the hotel but also plenty...

Double black is a ski hotel nestled in a beautiful and peaceful Japanese forest setting. Owned ostensibly by Australian interests, language is not an issue for the English speaking traveler, as nearly all the staff speak English fluently (most of them are either Australian or native English speakers); this is a great help when it comes to booking restaurants or...

The wonderful breakfasts and very helpful staff who willingly shuttled us to bus stops and ski slopes (but not back, sadly) and then to the train station at the end of our stay, were the highlights of our stay in this comfortable hotel set in the woods. The place reminded me of an upmarket chalet in the Alps – the...

Rooms are small. Staff are all really lovely except for the manager who made everything seem like a big ask and seemed to enjoy saying no rather than yes. The hotel provides transport to restaurants and morning and afternoon transport to ski lifts. Cabs back from restaurants are 1100 yen up. Won't be a return customer unfortunately.

Hi There, Thank you for your review. I'm sorry you felt that way. I helped you book a restaurant but you didn’t go, and the restaurant was very upset with us. If that happens a couple of times they’ll stop taking bookings for our guests. So I tried to confirm your other bookings with you each time so I could...

In February, I spent a week at Double Black. I was pleasantly surprised. A wonderfull menu reasonably priced. The food was better than most of the 4 star hotels I have stayed in. The resturant was backed up with a good wine list and friendly staff. The bedrooms were clean and warm. The hotel supplies a shuttle service to all...

We (3 adults) stayed at the Double Black Hotel for two nights this past January. The room was cozy, but clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed the open common area which included couches, the bar, and the restaurant. Wi-fi was also available in this area. The included breakfast was great! They had coffee, juice, made-to-order hot breakfast items, as well...

Opening of the 2012/2013 season. We understand a number of guests have been disappointed with the service they received in the opening weeks of the 2012/ 2013 season. We engaged a new management company for this season and have been badly let down by them. We became aware that we were experiencing difficulties after 28 December and one of our directors flew to Hakuba on New Year’s Eve. We then took over the running of the hotel and moved as quickly as possible to address the many issues that confronted us. We can confidently report that Double Black Hotel is now operating as advertised and is living up to all the good reviews previously posted on Trip Advisor. If you feel that you were disappointed with the service you received when on holiday with us, please contacts us and we will ensure that you are appropriately recompensed. ... more   less
