If you're looking for 5 star luxury with all amenities then this is not for you. However, if you're a skier after a traditional Japanese ryokan experience that is close to the best restaurants, a short walk to the moving walkway to the Hikage gondola, then this is the place to be, if you can get in ! There is...

Stayed for 6 nights in this warm and clean ryokan. Its basic by western standards However if you're here to ski then it is everything you need. Breakfast is very traditional so not for fussy westerners but good and filling for a day on the slopes. Ski racks, ski maintenance area and drying room are awesome. As are the on...

Stay anywhere else except shirakaba. It is the worst hotel I have ever stayed. Unless you pay $50 per nite , otherwise ,pick any other properties except this one. I was there for 4 nites ( 16th -20th January 2017). The room has only 2 very thin tatami mattress and a toilet was never cleaned or made up throughout the...

My wife researched a number of places that would allow the family to have a traditional Japanese feel during our first ski holiday to Japan. She chose well. Sleeping on a floor mat was just as good as a mattress after a long day skiing (after all that is why we are here - to ski) and the common bathroom...

Very nice hotel and we were made to feel welcome from the get go. Shirakaba is traditional Japanese accommodation with friendly staff run by a lovely family. We are back there in March 2017...The added bonus staying here is the fact the family own a ski hire shop right at the base of the mountain so we ere able to...

This hotel is just beautiful!!! A real traditional japanese hotel. The beds are very comfy, the rooms are super clean, the lady running the hotel is really kind and helpful and you even get a japanese tea set with some sweet buns and a yukata in you room ...just in case you fancy a traditional japanese tea party. 10/10.

We stayed here for 3 nights in early April and loved it. Location is super convenient - it's just around the corner from the Nozawa Onsen Liner bus stop, a 3min walk to the main street, and less than a 10min walk to the moving walkway that takes you up to the slopes. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable....

We stayed here two nights, and it was a favorite part of our trip to Japan. Nozawaonsen is a small town so everything is convenient. There is a trendy coffee shop next door, and the shuttle bus to Iiyama (JR Shinkansen) is down the street and around the corner, as are plenty of restaurants. The traditional-style rooms include tatami mat...

very central to everything. The staff were always friendly and polite. The rooms are very clean and had good views of the mountains and the village. The breakfast was Japanese, but if you give it a try it is actually very good. The front desk offers discounts of equipment and some of the nicer onsens in the village.
