Somewhere in the middle of nowhere in snowy Hokkaido, there is a magical ryokan considered as heaven... Well look no further - this is the place! Found our way here on our birding trip - a good place for the Blakistone fish eagle (real rival to the Raasu option). The hotel is rather expensive by local standards, but worth every...

We stayed here with our birding group recently and it was the highlight of the entire trip for us! As soon as you walk in the lobby, with its huge cedar supports, enormous fire pit with floor-to-ceiling windows, and active bird feeders, you know this is someplace very special! The rooms are spacious, even by western standards, with large windows...

This Ryokan is perfect. It has excellent service, food and onsen, and is located in a very scenic area. The rooms are spacious and well equipped. What's more, it has an owl that comes to feed just outside the foyer every night.

This may have been the best Ryokan stay we've had in Japan. Well worth the 9 hour drive through dumping snow and blizzard conditions from Sapporo. Ordinarily it would take 4 to 5 hours. We'd already missed a few days in Hokkaido because all flights in were cancelled for days due to snow. Daiichi was the next stop on our...

Great place out of nowhere to relax your tired legs. Good Onsen facilities overlooking the river and vegetation. Excellent service , staff literally go out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Japanese cuisine for dinner is an absolute treat. Owl watching from the comfort of lobby area is the icing on the cake.

A secluded and luxurious ryokan with a beautiful riverside onsen, delicious food (even for vegetarians, if you give them some notice) and first rate owl watching facilities. There's not much English spoken but the service is fantastic. The staff are very friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxed. The walls are lined with artwork and the rooms are lovely. Wouldn't change...

It's the best kept secret place in the middle of no where in Hokkaido. We checked in yesterday. Blizzard condition hits this area all day today. We are all very happy to spend the entire day in the hotel. It's so comfortable and friendly. Food is very good. One of the best out door Onsen's in Japan. Beautiful nature and...

We are well travelled world bird watchers and this is one of the best hotels we have come across in terms of accommodation, hospitality, food, service and owl watching opportunities! We experienced heavy snowfall during our one night stay but the outdoor Onsen kept us beautifully warm (we used the separate male/female Onsen but we understand that a mixed one...

This is the only hotel in this area. We didnt expected too much, at first. But at last, we loved this hotel. We enjoyed the traditional cozy style, hotspring next to the stream, fishing and making traditional japan cakes activities. The price is reasonable. this is highly recommended.

En route from Obihiro to Shiretoko, we made a last minute change. Instead of staying in Kushiro, we chose to stay in this slightly remote hotel in the area of Lake Mashu. The fact that all the reviews were written in Japanese is indicative of how Japanese this hotel is... which is a lovely aspect of this hotel. Upon entering...
