We spent an amazing one day and night in Koyasan - a place which is an experience in itself. The tradtional temple type inn has a variety of rooms and we had opted for the upper end suite. Expensive it was but totally worth it from the comfort and picture perfect garden view aspect. The morning prayer in the temple...

We spent one quite amazing night at Sojiin Temple, arriving rather exhausted from the trip directly from himeji. Technically it's not hard to get to Koyasan but it takes a lot of planning. Everyone was very welcoming and the rooms given to us very spacious and well equipped. After a rather exquisit vegan dinner we explored the "nightlife" which is...

2 days before our arrival the shrine cancelled our reservation with no explanation and debited our credit card from the total amount! I am struggling to have an answer from sojiin as nobody reply to m'y emails...

For those who are interested in staying at a ryokan located within a temple, I highly recommend staying at Sojiin. My husband and I, along with our brother and sister-in-law stayed for one night. The temple is very close to the center of town. The accommodations are spacious, the vegetarian cuisine delicious and beautifully presented, and experience (optional) of attending...

Our room overlooked the back garden and even had a window seat. The location of the monastery was perfect! The head monk even took us around and explained things in English as best he could after we asked them to waken us for prayers. We were even given stools to sit on as I was needing a new knee and...

We visited in November and the colours of the trees had to be seen to be believed. We left our main luggage in Kyoto and took the absolute minimum to Koyasan. Caught bus to Kyoto train station. The Shinkansen to Shin-Osaka and sub-way to Namba. Followed by Nankei train to Koyasan (Gokurakubashi station). Connected by 5 minute cable car to...

The journey to Koyasan is beautiful and this town is a special place to visit. After some sightseeing we returned to the Ryokan which is really a very nice lodging for visiting the numerous temples. Our rooms were spacious and comprised two main rooms, a dressing area, bathroom and deep bath. Surrounding the two principal rooms was a corridor which...

We really enjoyed the journey from Osaka to Koya-San by train, cable car and bus - it's a slow climb through forests and increasingly smaller towns for the most part and incredibly scenic! Our decision to stay at Sojiin was mostly based on wanting a ryokan-type experience and it didn't disappoint on that account. The landscape and building design are...

My husband and I spent an idyllic night at Soji-in Shukubo, a handsome inn within a temple for visiting pilgrims. It's located on a quiet temple-lined street within easy walking distance of the main street. We were expecting something a bit more basic and were pleasantly surprised by the luxury. The sitting room near the entry is opulent, featuring Chinese...

This absolutely great riokan is located inside a temple and you are served by monks. We had a suite which will leave us unforgettable memories: we could sit in a meditative atmosphere, watching at the superb temple garden. The multi-course gourmet vegan menu, served at (early) dinner time, is a firework for your eyes, palate and nose; it is impossible...
