I visited Kashiwaya Ryokan in January 2017 earlier on. We booked the package that comes with the Hana room, dinner, breakfast and also transport to and fro from Tokyo. The staff are extremely friendly and did their best to make us comfortable. I had a bad gastric and missed my bus there. Email Mr Masuo Kashiwabara immediately and luckily, he...

Getting the Ryokan is fairly simple with a JR pass (local bus costs 930 yen pp each way) and drops you off nearby the ryokan. We had the small tatami room and found it to be perfect; it was roomy, had a nice view and had ample facilities (tea making, cupboard space for large bags etc). The private baths are...

We were welcomed by many friendly staff who did their best to make us feel at home. The atmosphere was warm and seeing the comments and tokens left by former guests reassured us that the experience would be a great one. The three private onsen really make this stay a special one and it was a fantastic way to experience...

Kashiwaya Ryokan is the perfect place to relax. The rooms are big and beautifully decorated. You have comfy yukatas and slippers to wear around the hotel. The three open-air baths are always clean and offer an unforgetable experience - don't miss them after sunset! Breakfast is served downstairs, but dinner is served in your own room - both are a...

The high point of this Ryokan are the three private baths. We arrived 3pm, bathed before dinner, after dinner, before breakfast, after breakfast, left 11am. Only once did we take last of three baths. If you are a single-sex group, or don't mind being apart, you can probably get a better experience elsewhere. The public bath was only so-so and...

We came here to treat ourselves to a relaxing private retreat, we were not disappointed. We came here from Tokyo via Shinkansen to Takasaki, then changed to a Local Express going to Nakanojo station, thenright outside is bus stop #1 this takes you to around 35mins to Kashiwaya Ryokan, we weren't able to follow the stops the bus took en-route...

This is a friendly, warm, inviting onsen ryokan. There are three outdoor "rotenburo", all of them beautiful, plus an indoor bath as well. The food was creative and unusual -- we had some dishes we have never seen before -- but they were all tasteful and interesting and the highest quality. Everything in the ryokan had a traditional, earthy, pleasant...

The Shima Onsen area is a great destination to decompress from the sensory overload in the energetic greater Tokyo area. Kashiwaya Ryokan is an excellent example of an intimate ryokan run by an attentive staff dedicated to promoting a classic ryokan experience. The private in-room onsen bath (aka furo) and access to private outdoor furo were significant factors in our...

The staff were all really kind and helpful from the moment we stepped into place and when checking out the next day. The place emitted a very authentic and traditional feel from the provided yukatas, the interior design, and ofcourse the baths. The food was delicious, and would highly recommend adding the beef, and (for those willing to explore) the...

Chosen because it catered to meat eating and vegan alike. The food at dinner and breakfast was superb and portions were huge - don't snack before dinner! The room design also lovely.
