We didn't choose this place but it was in our trip. The location is perfect because in right next to the river. The lodge is cheap so don't expect too much. It is simple and don't forget you are IN the nature! If oyu are looking for luxury , find another place!

We stayed for 3 nights/4 days while in the area to spot wildlife. The accomodation and food is basic, but service is very friendly, with great boat rides. Afternoons can easily be spent with a book lounging on the deck, and relaxation seems to be a way of life here! We were able to organise a boat trip as a...

We were really looking forward to this but were very disappointed by our experiences. Having handed over 1000 MYR on arrival (3 D2N for two people + return transport to Sandakan) we were told we couldn't even have a cup of tea before 6 pm... 2.5 hours later. Two of our four boat tours were fine with Jul a neighbouring...

What a find! I stayed at Barefoot Lodge (recommended by a family friend) with my husband and his parents for two nights and had a truly wonderful stay. The lodge's location is absolutely breathtaking, situated alongside the river, running through the rainforest. Our rooms were simple but very pleasant and had private bathrooms with heated electric showers. We were glad...

If you're fine with roughing it with the accommodations, and love adventures and wildlife, this should be a place you should to visit. The other tourists along with the staff are very friendly, and there is wildlife everywhere. You should definitely take their river tours, even if it's raining like heck, because we saw an elephant, hornbills, proboscis monkeys, kingfishers,...

You really come here for the wildlife. I stayed for three nights - full board - and loved it. The boatman (from the lodge) knew everything about where to go and what to expect to see. We went out on the river in the early morning, in the late afternoon, and at night, and saw elephants, four species of hornbills,...

I stayed in the dorm, originally had it to myself but when a group of four arrived they also joined me - in a room with four beds. The extra mattress on the floor certainly did not leave much space to move around! The river cruises were surprisingly quiet as the guides hardly gave any information on the animals other...

We did stay 3 nights in Barefoot. The staff is very friendly, the food is perfect, river cruises are a great experience. We spotted elephants, different species of monkeys, crocodiles, many birds etc. The accommodation is very basic, no airco, not very clean, we had some flees in our bed, the sewer system did not work that well, leaking water...

The whole experience was very good. River cruises were nice and our guide was very funny and helpful with explanation. They picked us at the airport and took back there with no extra fee. The accomodation was quite wild.. The room was not clean to be honest. It was full of insects and the bathroom was not that good (no...

Barefoot Lodge was such a disappointment . The rooms all needed some maintenance .Especially the bathroom which flooded whenever we had a shower. Food was adequate as the cook did try . If Barefoot wants to encourage travellers to stay here I suggest they try to make some improvements to their accommodation as do not consider Barefoot good value for...

“If you are a light sleeper, remember to bring earplugs - there is a fruit tree above the rooms. When I was there, it dropped fruit (maybe rambutan?) on the tin roof all night - what a noise! Also, there is a switch on the verandah to turn off the porch light - otherwise the room is very light at night.”
