Picked up in Tawau and transferred to Semporna jetty by SMART staff, then 40 min transfer by speedboat to Mabul, all very efficient. The arrival area is a bit bleak, and the water is a bit grubby, as it is right next to the fishing village, but keep an open mind - it gets better. Greeted on arrival by divemaster Jansi who explained all about the main resort and the newer water bungalow part, while we filled in paperwork and had a cold drink and a cold flannel to refresh oursleves. Slight hiccup with the booking meant we were intially shown to a standard chalet on the island. I have to say I'd have been extremely disappointed to have stayed there - they were basic and dark with no views. The standalone chalets looked a bit more inviting though. However, the error was quickly…
What a fantastic place! The staff were so attentive, the diving superb and the setting paradise! If you want access to the internet then you will need to take your own laptop with wireless modem, but I really can't write anything negative about this place. This really is diving for the lazy, the dive staff set up all you kit for you and help you to put it all on then after your dive they set it up ready for the next dive. We did a night dive on the house reef which was free. I simply told our dive guide that we wanted to night dive and all the kit was prepared for us and torches were provided. A member of staff was there to help us into the water and stayed untill we had finished our dive to help us out. He put away all of our kit for us. The next morning we arrived at…
What an amazingly beautiful hotel in a beautiful situation. The bungalows are private, extremely comfortable, and very well appointed. The buffet meals are terrific and offer a really nice variety of food. All was not perfect. We had trips offered by the hotel for snorkeling around nearby islands. However, we were not taken to some of the sites advertised, and were given too little time at some others. It's really a resort for divers more than snorkelers. One day we were taken out with divers and had to snorkel in their areas, which was not always the best place to be for a snorkeler. If you are a snorkeler staying there, I think you need to be firm about being taken to the spots that were advertised. The other aspect that can be a negative is that the boat transfer to and from…
I've resisted placing a review about this place as I didn't want anyone to find out about it (my secret Heaven!!) but it's on the map now! We've stayed here twice and would compare it to the Maldives but without Maldives prices!! It's an expensive package but when you consider that's full board including snacks and all the diving (as much as you like on the house reef). Sipadan is a 15 minute speed boat ride away, there you'll be amazed by the huge variety of marine life and if you like turtles you'll see a lifetimes worth!!! The dive staff were faultless, they even put all your kit together and washed it all at the end of the day! Our Water bungalow was clean, modern and furnished to a high standard, we had Air conditioning and hot showers, there was a turn down service in…
We loved this place and would recommend it to anyone thinking of going diving in Sipadan. It is a collection of bungalows built on stilts over crystal clear shallow waters - we spent a lot of time just hanging over the balcony of our bungalow watching the sealife - rays, eels, barracuda, endless fish... The staff were very friendly and the food was great (all inclusive). Of course the diving was amazing, especially on Sipadan itself. You do two dives a day off Sipadan, and one off either Kapalai or Mabul. It was the best diving I have ever done - so much to see we just didn't know where to look! There was also a spa at the resort where I had a lovely massage. They give you bikes so you can cycle to the other resort on the island, although it is within walking distance. …
