We came to Dongqi Hotel since it had the brightest lights and wanted a room for three of us. Staff do not speak English but were generally courteous. They didn't have a room with three beds but offered us two rooms at a discounted rate so we took it. One of our rooms were fine but heating in their other room was not working, so we requested to change rooms. We were there in January which was low season so we could simply take the room next door, alas that room smelt of smoke. The walls of the bathroom were all glass with a really thin curtain which you could see right through so there is not much privacy at all. Now there was some problem with the drainage for this room so after a shower the whole bathroom was flooded. The beds were very hard. We had a breakfast coupon included in the room for 2 which was not bad, you get the traditional Yunnan noodle for breakfast plus an assortment of foods which you have in the dining hall. Overall the standard of the rooms could be much better. More

We picked the hotel based on the apperance as we arrived Kaiyuan town at 11pm from a road trip. It was bright with colourful neon lights so you can identify it from far away. As its getting late, I have specifically asked for rooms that are near the concerige. I was first given the room 107 but the room is not equpped with a heater. They have moved us to Room 108 where theres a strong smell of cigaratte in the room and the shower drainage did not work at all. The whole bathroom was basically flooded and my sleepers were floating like in Noah's arc. I have to call a cleaning lady to wipe clean the whole bathroom at midnight. Also, the bed is rock hard and we had a pretty uncomfortable night there.

My friend in room 106 was fine except for the hard mattress.

“Don't take the rooms on the first floor. While you didn't have walk up stairs, the rooms on the higher floors are probably in better condition.”
