We booked the YHA after reading a poor review of a local B&B. The cost was under £70 for the six of us. The Full English breakfast was outstanding and the power showers were monsoon like. Why stay in a hotel when this is here......

This was our first experience of staying in a Youth Hostel, it was basic but had everything you needed, we stayed in a family room with en-suite and had a comfy nights sleep. Breakfast was nice. Lounge area was ok, great for the kids but could do with updating a little I thought, also there was a terrible smell in...

The youth hostel is tucked away deep in the woods but also not too far from some of the areas best attractions which is easy to access via bike, car or walking. The rooms are top notch and bright and you get some lovely vues. The staff were so friendly and helpful! My only improvements would be to have a...

Arriving very wet and tired it was great to be let in earlier than the usual 5 pm timing. Accommodation was good and the facilities just what we needed after a 50 mile trip from Carlisle. We had inquired about breakfast before we arrived and would warn others to book in advance to ensure you get fed, We had no...

The location is perfect, just down the road from the local shops, post office, pub and visitor centre. The walking and cycle routes are a few steps away. I would suggest everyone visit and stay here at least once. The rooms are tidy and clean. The bathroom set up we had was shared but did not effect us to much...

When we stayed the showers were down for maintenance, but a member of staff called us a week before to give us a heads up, and we were directed towards the showers at the camp-site a few minutes down the road which we were able to use instead. There's also only one room in the hostel with a double bed,...

Thank you for your review and I'm happy that you found your stay pleasant. You'll be pleased to know that the showers are back up and working again now and we thank you for your understanding! We have an extra room during the winter season with a double bed, however during the summer this is used as staff accommodation. The...

We booked this place for two nights as we had booked on a fieldwork course in the area. We arrived at the hostel and when we walked in the whole place felt deserted, unlike other hostels I've stayed in. The staff did not behave as though they were enthusiastic or welcoming, but rather like they had lost the will to...

I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy your trip to Kielder. Whereas you felt the hostel seemed deserted, a lot of people prefer that they can go about their stay as though it were their home. There is plenty to do throughout the day and three great pubs in the area to visit in the evening so people tend to be...

Great hostel with very helpful and friendly manager. We were warmly welcomed on arrival and there was a shed to store our bikes. We had a shared dorm with clean sheets and nice and quiet. The breakfast was good too served by the manager - she is a marvel!

Thank you for the kind review and I'm pleased that your trip was enjoyable. We are in the process of getting a bigger and shinier bike shed hopefully for the new season in 2014 so you'll have to come and check it out!

This hostel has everything you'd expect, it was comfortable and clean with all the amenities that you need. Fantastic location, beautiful scenery, very helpful staff, friendly and polite. I accidentally left my purse in the kitchen which was thankfully handed to the staff member whose room door I had to knock on to retrieve it...I dont think I woke them...

Great place, clean rooms good shower and fantastic, fresh spring water from the tap. Breakfast was good, supper was good. Perfect for the hungry, tired cyclist or walker. YHA are refurbishing a lot of their hostels and this one is showing its age a bit. Don't book if you are used to luxury and keeping yourself to yourself. Do book...
